Herrenvolk horse archers and heated driveways

I had a concern yesterday that Gregory Campbell MP would double down on his racist outburst about Songs of Praise.

He did.

There is a depressing predictability to all of this.

Nor was I surprised that Mr Campbell’s party leadership seemed rather squeamish about putting manners on him.

There is an undeniable Herrenvolk hierarchy operating here.

When the Poppy Porn season is foisted on us here in Ireland,  the self-identifying Loyalist is all about the “Lest We Forget” vibe.

Brit Lives Matter…

Simultaneously, the folk who sing about being up to their knees in blood and snigger about  An Gorta Mór are rather sensitive souls.

As a professional writer, I’m inordinately interested in etymology.

How a word or a term comes into common usage usually has a fascinating backstory.

This seems to be the origin of the word “Hun” being associated with the Ibrox klanbase.

During World War One the word “Hun” changed from meaning these guys.

To these guys.

For the avoidance of doubt, there was never any religious connotation to the use of the “H” word to describe the Fascist underclass of Ibrox.

Lest we forget…

Regular readers will not be surprised that the statement from the Club 1872 chaps.

You can read it here.

The important point to note is that WHATEVER it takes the Ibrox show will stay on track.

The financial chaos is for another day and it will inevitably arrive just as it did at the end of the EBT decade.

However, all that the Sevco High Command needed to do was, by any means necessary, keep the lights on and hope that  Celtic would succumb to arrogant complacency.

Of course, dear reader, that is exactly what happened.

The chaps in the Blue Room are indeed fortunate that they have an Old Firm friend across the city.

Lest we forget…

  1. If you go listen to the Ibrox Support against Bayern Munich in the early 70’s in the no longer relevant Cup they can be clearly heard to be singing “Go home ya huns” to the Munich Supporters.

Just though that worth a mention.

  2. I think you, and many Celtic fans, are so busy looking at the flaws in Celtic that you fail to appreciate the level of consistency and effectiveness of performances that Rangers have put in this season. Even a Celtic firing on most cylinders would have been neck and neck at the top this season.

This season should not have come as a shock. Rangers’ performances in Europe have been far beyond expectations for several seasons and their inability to maintain consistency in the league over a whole season has been used to ignore the desperate need for root and branch improvement at Celtic.

While it is vital that Celtic look inward to see what has gone wrong and what needs changing, they should also look outward to see what Rangers have managed to accomplish this season on a fraction of Celtic’s wage bill and transfer fees.

    • We have a growing problem of racism on this island.
Obviously, the Orange tradition in the Six Counties is defined by its origin myth xenophobia.
In the 26 Counties, there is a small, but noisy, far-right faction.
      They’re anti-immigrant, anti-EU and anti-Covid restrictions.
Given that we were victims of the British Empire then Irish racists are doubly at fault.
I suggest that you read Noel Ignatiev’s brilliant work on how the Irish were inducted into white society in 19th century USA.
Unlike you, I’m not heroically anonymous.
I call out racism in my own name wherever it occurs.

  3. Not taking a knee is the new “i’m not racist but…”. A few seconds against centuries of subjugation. “But its Marxist but its this but its that” by folk who mostly will never have read Marx or who have never been this vocal AGAINST racism.
    Crypto bigots.

  4. Neil Lennon’s smug apathy was Celtics downfall this season, nothing else.

From the get go he broadcast a job done demeanour simply because of his eight guys in the door in the summer. He put no urgency or fight into them. In this respect Gerrard left him standing.

Lennon deserves his failure. Gerrard deserves his success. With a third of the budget too.

No CL for five seasons at Celtic (at minimum), no CL since the new lights show went in four years ago. They’ve never lit up the CL.

I’m a lifelong Celtic man and I agree with Mr Campbell’s view on BLM and taking the knee. I will never take a knee for that political garbage. Neither he nor I am racist. Black peoples all over the world including USA refuse to take the knee. Young footballers, coerced into this appalling agenda, need to tell their clubs where to go.

  5. Once again you are rewriting history. The only thing Lawell can be blamed for this season is not sacking Lennon. We have the best squad in the country, and added over 15 million pounds worth of talent pre season.
Lennon has dragged the team down alarmingly. Its his job to pick the team and tactics, its pretty obvious there is a distinct lack of shape and tactics.
Can you name one player Lennon has improved?
I could name half a dozen who have regressed.

  6. Looks like a squirrel to detract from the growing PUL reaction to being DUPed yet again. £2bn bribe and Songs of Praise is the best they can come up with to do their imperialist master’s bidding. There is great big craic in their tattered union jack.

  7. We should be pleased that Gregory has made a swift leap forward from 1690 to 2020, if still a wee bit in the past. As Charles Coburn said to Cary Grant about Marilyn Monroe in Monkey Business, “Anybody can type”.

  8. Loathe as I am to agree with that erse Campbell he’s right regarding the motives of those behind BLM which go far beoynd merely wanting the police to stop killing black people. Extremists are extremists regardless of the view taken and in most cases these people are scumbags. I shouldn’t be criticised for not taking a knee just as I shouldn’t be criticised for not wearing a poppy. I consider myself a centrist who wishes no harm to any race or gender but the people behind many of these “woke” causes are sinister AF and I won’t be part of any cause celebre du jour just to appease extremists.

  9. I know the likes of Gregory Campbell like to live in the past but surely even his calendar will show that the 14th January 2020 was more than 2 weeks ago?
