A valedictory salvo from Neil Lennon?

At the end of the Celtic presser today a buddy sent me this on WhatsApp:

“Is Desmond happy to sit back and watch this circus unfold?”

I think that is a very fair question as is the title of this piece.

The contrite Peter Lawwell was replaced today by a highly combative Celtic manager apropos the Dubai Debacle.

It is yet another car crash episode in the work experience PR that emanates from the Parkhead club.

The optics of that presser were, quite frankly, appalling.

Today I spoke with someone who is very well-placed within the Desmond hierarchy.

He reminded me that the man at the top always had his ducks in a  row before decisively moving to deal with any strategic problem.

I stated to him that, in my opinion, Peter Lawwell could not be the public face of the club by the time of the season ticket renewal window.

He didn’t disagree with me.

With the biggest football budget in the league by quite some distance, the manager has fielded a catastrophically underperforming team.

I do not have the answer to questions sent to me today.

However, I cannot see this situation being allowed to continue for much longer by Dermot Desmond.

The brand is being damaged, and he will not tolerate that.

  1. As NL said only two from 30 were positive for Covid that is a good result and trip was a success. he shouted for fans back? this would mean average of 1080 fans would have covid before parkhead was put on lockdown.
sometimes saying nothing at all is the best answer. some bring joy when they enter others when the leave. it’s nice to see your back again

  2. Can anyone who has criticised Neil over this statement tell me what if anything he said that was incorrect. As far as I can see he is being lambasted for telling the truth.

  3. It would be quite amusing if, as a result of the debacle, Sturgeon decided to call time on the SPL season.

I mean it would be crap for fans and club finances but imagine the howling, baying, frustration when the orcs realised that, unlike last season, not enough games had been played to decisively declare a winner and the season had to be null and voided….. 😂😂😂😂

  4. When Celtic won the Cup,and the news that NL was appointed manager like many other supporters
I felt that he was not the man for the job.The tactics he was using were limited,so my concern was his limitations, but never doubted he was a true Celtic man.
The pressure that NL has endured during this season have caused him to explode,at the latest
interview. The SMSM and SKY continue to snipe at Celtic, and are now joined by the SNP,who let’s not forget had no problem with the Dubai trip,as it was within their rules.
NL exploded in anger, but it’s the truth, who else is talking up for Celtic.Celtic supporters may not like the way it was said,so well done NL.
True Celtic supporters get behind the team,so criticise but don’t join the rest of Scotland.
Remember in Scotland,if you don’t support Celtic you support that other mob.

  5. Lenny is probably correct in what he said but he shouldn’t have said it as it just gives the prejudiced media further ammunition to hammer our club.

    • The presser was selectively edited in the media and did not make it clear that the Scottish Government had introduced a new normal of 3 metre distancing-just for Celtic.
Neil Lennon was quite right to be furious.

  6. Neil didn’t make this up on the spot
Hes had 10 days to think about what he was going to say
Plus he speaks to Dermot every other day
I reckon that it’s been well thought out and he’s went all out attack with the blessing of Dermot

  7. Do I agree with some of your contributors?? Ybet your life I do.the Celtic websites have been infiltrated by pseudo Celtic people whose only raison d etre is to have a kick at Celtic and neil Lennon.zThe anti Lennon items have started their campaign as Lennon was appointed and in spite of his successes they have continued to intensify their attacks on the man and the club..Enough I say..these staggers have never been to Celtic park or have turned into tourists who attend maybe once or twice a year and then turn out as experts on the club.Enough I say, time now for all good Tims to rally round the club and neil Lennon

  8. He’s ONE HUNDRED PER CENT CORRECT!!

What I find even MORE upsetting, what actually ANGERS me more is the number of so called Celtic fans who have jumped on the band wagon.

Not a single Celtic fan I spoke to before the sevco game said a word against it. To a man they all wanted the same as me. Go and come back refreshed, firing on all cylinders and blow the bastarts away in the second half of the season. The way we did last season.

It’s high time SOMEONE showed some balls and stood up for the club instead of bowing and scraping and issuing apologies for doing fuck all wrong.

Watch how Radio Scotland, Radio snyde, the Daily Ranger and Scottish Hun react. They’ll be apoplectic with indignation.

I’d lay good money that if it had been up to Lenny, Resolution 12 would have been taken the distance right at the start.

It’s become obvious that PL and probably DD have something to hide from the fans on that matter. The “Blessed Bunnet” would NEVER have let the bastarts off the hook on that.

  9. I can’t for the life of me understand why any Celtic fan on here could possibly try and justify this omnishambles clusterf×ck that Mr Lennon just unleashed on reasonable, intelligent people. Please Celtic FC relieve this man of his duties for the sake of the club. This by no means exorates PL, his position is now untenable.

    • Anyone who claims to be a Celtic supporter who finds him or her self in lockstep with the Scottish football journalists in attacking the club really needs to have a good look at themselves. The whole gang of Celtic hating bigots are all joining in, and to make matters worse some people who claim to be Celtic fans are adding to the pressure by taking their lead from people who hate the club They should find another club. They are a disgrace.

    • Since WHEN did the description “reasonable and intelligent people” become an accurate description of sports journalists in Scotland?

  10. Neil should refuse to put his players in jeopardy and say he isn’t taking the team to any ground that doesn’t follow protocol

  11. NL only saying what what majority of Celtic fans believe, it should be the boards job to stick up for the club something they have never done over the years of our club being attacked by press and MSM
Yes for on field performance he should resign but do not attack him for defending our club ,
Do the right thing Celtic and don’t remain at the back of the bus

    • Bang on. It’s high time someone in the hierarchy showed some balls. If PL and DD gave a rats rectum for anything other than their own pockets they would have acted like men a long time ago. They refused point blank to heed the CLEAR wishes of the fans over Res 12. They allowed the tribute act the oxygen to grow into what will be a genuine rival even when Celtic get their act together again.

We’ve had a man in the driving seat who knows how to make money but knows fuck-all about football and who is making footballing decisions he is clearly not qualified to make.

The fans have put TEN YEARS of ST money into the coffers to enjoy the biggest day of their lives this summer and the club have blown it.

I posted here a couple of months ago that his season of all seasons, the fans entered into a contract with the club.

“We will put up the ST money to help out the club in these difficult times in the sound knowledge that we may not get to attend a single game. The club will in turn deliver the TENTH title that the fans crave and deserve.”

The club have reneged on their part of the bargain. It will be a cold day in hell before many of those fans set foot inside Celtic Park again.

    • John black well said , I’ve been saying the same things for months, Neil Lennon is spot on in what he said and as for Andy walker I wouldn’t let him back in to Celtic park he’s now a rangers cheerleader.

  12. Any shred of ” sympathy ” I might have had for Neil Lennon…disappeared today.
His response to the “Journalists ” was appalling…and confirms what I have said for years…
Our PR department is a shambles…and unfit for purpose.
To allow him to go out and make a complete fool of himself is unforgivable. Heads have to roll.

  13. The way the club has watched this season unfolding is almost unthinkable from so called custodians to the wee laptop dug out guy showing a Celtic manager graphs of star trek or whatever to the sunshine boys of dubious Dubai, , then the ‘ manager ‘ ? …digs a bigger hole than saint peter.s episode of take the high road last week with today.s still game repertoire in slow motion, pass me the scatter gun that blew my left leg off crossing the farmers field so I can reload for me only leg standing “
