Sevco fail the first courage test in this pressure season

Last February in a moment of post-match candour after a defeat to Kilmarnock Mr Let’s Go stated that Celtic were “relentless.”

He was, of course, correct.

The form of the champions on return to action after the midwinter break was what is required to deliver silverware to the trophy cabinet.

Indeed, the only points dropped by Celtic when they resumed action after Dubai was on Livingston’s infernal plastic pitch.

Celtic have also failed to win this season on an artificial surface at Rugby Park against Killie.

There is no doubt that the drawn match in Ayrshire and the two postponed matches,  courtesy of Monsieur Bolingoli, opened the door for Sevco.

Had the Ibrox chaps been, well, “relentless” then Celtic would have had a foothill to climb.

It would, nonetheless, been a small advantage to Sevco to have points on the board despite the fact that the champions had two games in hand.

It was more of a psychological edge if it had been fully grasped.

However, that would require a certain resolve from the eight-year-old club.

Some rather mistakenly thought that Mr Gerrard had instilled that relentlessness in his charges this season.

That would appear to be a mistaken belief by Mr Barry Ferguson EBT.

Of course, titles are not won or lost by anyone in the month of August.

However, Mr Gerrard’s Gumtree Galacticos have failed the first test for their mental resolve.

Today in his post-match interview Mr Gerrard didn’t look that hopeful.

I’m sure that the man from Lurgan will be smiling tonight.

The Irishman knows that he has fragile foes.

  1. There’s another 8 figure some bring drained from the public coffers (at a critical time) you can put down to Rainjurzzz.

Sadly won’t be the last and all due to some bear-friendly, sash wearing policemen who didn’t like the way history dealt with their dead football club.

Does anybody need any further evidence of the institutional bigotry at the core of Scottish society.

  2. The only pressure was going top and staying there. Bottle crashed.

    No real pressure at all.

There’s no character to Gerrard’s team at all. Could it be related to their low and diminishing individual values? Cheap players don’t deliver much.

Noted persistent dirty player Morelos picked up a yellow. The guy is worth less than £3.5m. No goal from him either.

Celtic not been in Champions League for three years, that’s £150m income dropped. Shareholders won’t be happy. Their focus is big returns. The CFC squad will be built for CL Group Stage entry this year. Thus delivering SPFL as a given.

  3. No lover of Sevco but your have double standards. You claim the only time Celtic dropped points was on the infernal plastic pitches. Yet when Sevco also fail on the same plastic they are just a poor team.

  4. Off topic…but…
Bobby Murdoch ( R.I.P.) would have been 76 today …and many Celtic supporters have him as their favourite player.
It got me thinking…and so I’ll confess that my favourite player from that era was Bobby Lennox.
If you are old enough to remember the Lions …who was your favourite Celt ..?
    Hail hail.

  5. Quite a wind change amongst the Bears following the Livvie game.
Poor Stevie G is getting pelters for his lack of a Plan B when Plan A isn’t working.
Wouldn’t like to be in his shoes when their fans find themselves trailing the Champs.
I see the grumpy Colombian is still on the premises and the payroll.
Where is that queue of clubs lining up to take Alfie to one of the big leagues?
So much for the over hyped EPL as Man United join Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and Wolves watching the final stages of the CL and Europa from the sidelines.

  6. When I heard Kris Boyd discussing Rangers new strike force in his own inimitable style I was expecting Almondvale to resemble The Killing Fields with Khmer Rouge providing the firepower alongside Pol Pot lookalike Morelos.

  7. These plastic playing surfaces are going to have a big say in how the league is won. Negotiating that and the bus parking must be of paramount importance to NL.

The bears are gunning for Slippy and their big signing and are just wakening up to the fact they have been duped again. HH

    • A quarter of the grounds in the league have plastic pitches. You cant use that as an excuse. Plus ALL players are brought up playing on these pitches these days, do they must be used to it.

  8. Bad weekend for the huns and Douglas Ross , CELTIC will get the 10 as the huns can’t put a run together even though there is no pressure. At least mr Ross won’t have to miss running the line for a vi (victory in IRELAND 🇮🇪 )day

    • We must improve the urgency in our play along with our defensive structure , we must show more aggression particularly Julien and Ajer ,I would like to see us add a powerful leftsided Centre back ,a left back and also a right sided wide player/ striker, perhaps another experienced back up goalkeeper. Then I will be more confident.
