Why the Ibrox klan need a long Halliday from reality

As I have often observed here in the past, the greatness of Sevco will always be in the future.

Sadly, Mr Halliday’s time at the basket of assets is all but over.

Like the club founded in 2012 itself, he promised much.

In fairness, he rarely disappointed the green end of the city.

Pure entertainment!

It has been a rather amusing feature of the Ibrox klanbase since 2012 that they think that their new team can do the business on a sustained basis when faced with the might of Celtic.

Take this one, for example:

Here are Sevco fans willing the Scottish Cup draw to bring Celtic out of the hat to face the basket of assets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=338azYBcaq8&feature=emb_logo

Bless them and their fascist simplicity…

Here is what happened when that fixture was played at Hampden.

That was 2018, and the Mr Let’s Go was brought in to bring silverware to Sevco.

The poor sod…

Of course, when Mr Gerrad was appointed there was great excitement amongst Sevco’s clientele.

That is precisely what the appointment was meant to achieve in 2018.

The looming problem with season ticket renewals disappeared overnight.

Of course, the idea that a rookie manager could overhaul Celtic with their massive financial advantage was risible.

At some point, you would think that the Ibrox klanbase would stop swallowing all of the shite fed to them.

However, there still doesn’t seem to be any evidence of turd immunity among The People.

Although the Andy Halliday Show is highly amusing, there are Ibrox stories that are worth pursuing.

I caught up with a very well-placed source yesterday.

The first item we discussed was the Albion Carpark story.

He was straight to the point on that one:

“Close Brothers want their money back. They refused to extend the loan”.

Oh, dear.

He told me to ignore the coverage in the mainstream.

That’s easy enough to do for your humble correspondent.

On the player front, he told me that the Sevco High Command was trying to get “as many as four” first-team players out the door.

He added that the chaps in the Blue Room hoped that they would be able to cover the reduction in numbers with loan players.

However, the real story at Sevco is almost always about money.

Consequently, in three weeks from now the six players that have been let go, including the inverted fullback, will want to be paid up in full.

Foderingham, Halliday et al. are owed money by the club.

Moreover, their representatives have made it clear that they expect full payment on the last Thursday of this month.

In an entirely unconnected development, the Sevco High Command has been again reaching out to the Shy Messiah in the Far East.

Unfortunately for Sevco, the Scot in Asia is not the main event.

The real money is with a chap in the US of A, and it is mainly tied up in commercial property.

The Covid19 recession has hit that sector particularly hard across the developed world.

In summing up, my guy stated that there were FIVE issues currently concentrating dignified kinds in the Blue Room:

  • Dave wants his money. All £6.8m of it! Two unknowns in that one is the interest rate and the security for the loan. When I raised this earlier, I know that it caused some angst in the Sevco High Command. So, once more for effect, “what is the security on the Dave King loan”?
  • Close Brothers have not agreed to an extension and want their money back. The cheek of them!
  • The basket of assets is particularly vulnerable to a no matchday revenue scenario.
  • He hasn’t gone away, you know! The Ashley litigation is still there as is the Hummel/Elite and Memorial Walls.
  • The six players that have been let go (Alnwick, Flanagan, Foderingham, Halliday, Holt and Rossiter) all want to be paid in full by the end of this month.

Each of these five points on their own should be generating interest on the sports desks in Glasgow.

You know that journalism lark.

Taken together, they would justify a significant investigation.

However, if you think that all is well at Ibrox then just keep taking the tabloids.

  1. Gerrard tipped to bring another Liverpool kid to Ibrox, a striker no less.
With the recent arrival of a young left back that’s cleared the ground for the sale of El Buffalo and Barasic.
Replacing your two top players with youngsters that have not had a single EPL outing between them for their respective clubs is not an upgrade and they will be replacing experienced players who have been over the course before but failed miserably to stop Celtic.
The pressure on Rangers to stop 10 IAR will be off the scale and if they don’t hit the ground running their fans will quickly be on the players back.
It’s a given, acknowledged by Rangers fans, that Gerrard will be toast if he fails to stop 10 IAR, so the pressure will be massive right throughout the club.
    Bring it on.

  2. The very talented Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkussen is allegedly the subject of a £70m plus bid from Real Madrid.
Those fine chaps at Ibrox Noise are using the valuation as proof that the big hitters in the transfer market are still out there and the pandemic has had no impact on market values. Bayer’s valuation apparently is £90m.
Of course this fits perfectly with the £40m that Rangers are hoping to get for the sale of Morelos and Barasic.
Lets not forget the £10m for Kamara from Marseilles.
It would appear that the boys at IN really do subscribe to Hagi’s agent belief that Rangers are Scotland’s Juventus, thats the Juve who have just completed 8 IAR in Italy, and can name their price for the players.
The reality is that clubs spending millions in the market ain’t stupid, they do their homework and will be well aware that it’s a fire sale and those heady numbers won’t be reached.
If you rip the heart from a club by selling your 3 prized assets to generate funds, when these 3 players were part of the squad that collapsed after the winter break and fell 13 points behind the 9IAR champions, there’s no guarantee that their replacements, almost certainly cheaper, will be able to stop 10IAR.

  3. Well, well, who would have thought it. Finally dawning on the brighter amongst the blue side support that it’s now over 2 weeks since the league was called and that their club voted in favour along with the other 11, and not a sign of the oft threatened legal action, though they will be happy to let Hearts plough that path and swallow the costs involved.
They are now up in arms about the Scottish Cup being played to a finish. 3 games, can be completed in a week.
    What’s the problem?
Is a historic quadruple treble too much for them to swallow?

  4. Just another day at the office.
Sevco players could not command the salaries that they receive at present,at any other club. The players will cut deals, and remain silent,as it will be explained it is in their best interest.Think not just ask the bread man.The court system, and MSM will do whatever it takes to make sure they survive, and where the money comes from to ensure survival will never be questioned.
This is Scotland we are against racism in the world, but we have the right to maintain it,as Irish Catholics will never change us.
Nothing changes in Scotland my grandfather born in 1870 told me this, and it still survives to this day.

  5. I thought failure to pay salaries on time was an automatic points deduction.

Does it impact on a European license?

    Anyone?

Anyway, it’s all the fault of that wee fenian virus so it is!!

  6. On hearing Halliday was getting the bullet, well, tbph,it left me saddened, yes,he was rightfully the butt of our jokes and deserved all he got. However, they might now bring in someone who can actually play well and better their team and that was the real reason I was saddened;just let’s hope they bring in someone who might be a better laugh for us.Andy we miss ye…

Thoroughly enjoyed that Phil, keep at them, you’re playing a blinder.

  7. Well I know how I would feel if the company I work for were deferring wages then at the same time spending money on further staff. Ensure your current staff are paid on time before spending on others. Also, selling assets to bring in money, half of Albion car park, but deferring wages. My company just furloughs at best or tells you to eff off at worst. Here’s some pennies, now off you go and find a new job.

I hope those with deferred wages have cast iron contracts so that they get what they’re due even after leaving the club, company, holding company. Actually, who does actually employ the players?

A zoomer on Clyde SSB the other night showed his colours quickly. When asked about paying for a virtual ticket to watch his beloved sevco in, for example, an away game to Aberdeen he soon went off on one about how he was paying nothing to other clubs and he hopes they go bust after what they did to rangers in 2012. They just don’t get it. Rangers did what was done to Rangers. The cause of their bastard child having to start in the bottom league was because Rangers liquidated. That club was deid, it was an ex-club. Someone should do a deid club sketch. The new club had no share in the SPL hence why there was a spare share that went to Dundee I think. What the other clubs did, including those lower league clubs who sevco made friends with in the journey, was allow the bride of Rangers to enter the bottom league ahead of other more deserving clubs. All Scottish league clubs actually helped sevco, they didn’t punish Rangers and send them down. There was no Rangers to send down. They LIQUIDATED. They did not exist. Deid, DNR or they’d only have to pay their bills.

Of course the whole sorry mess could have been avoided by paying their social taxes, bills to face painters etc rather than running off like a thief in the night.

If I also recall the same zoomers were in an uproar about players leaving with no compensation for the new club. That was because the club that held their contract was DEID. They had no obligation to Secvo hence the walking away. However Lafferty, MacGregor etc were of course welcomed back by the new incarnation.

  8. Off topic Phil…but hopefully lightening the mood a wee bit…
For those of my generation, who do not and cannot, understand why Facebook exists…I decided to try and make Friends in my own way…
So every day, when I go out for my walk, and ensuring social distancing applies, I tell anyone I meet what I have eaten for breakfast…how I am feeling…what I did the night before …and what I plan to do later…and with whom.
I show them pictures of…. flowers in my garden…. the dog…things that are in my garage…me watering the lawn…me standing in front of famous landmarks….having lunch….and anything else that springs to mind.
When they tell me what they’ve been up to…I give them a thumbs -up…and tell them I like them.
And it seems to work…just like the real Facebook…because…
I already have 4 people following me ….
    Two Police Officers…a Private Detective…and a Psychiatrist.
    Hail hail.

    • It’s the late Ken Dodd I feel most sorry for… he only had a tickling stick to raise a few laughs – you’ve got sevco to raise yours! If I may paraphrase the late liverpudlian comedian.. you are TATTI-PHIL-ARIOUS!

Sevco – the gift that keeps on giving.

  11. I would imagine all staff that deferred wages will want paid at the end of the month, not just the 6 mentioned. This is the cost that I think will bring them closest to the brink in the very near future. Hope so.

  13. Perhaps Halliday will need a Doc at the end of the month,
…to manage a rising blood pressure?

None of those 6 are getting paid in full: they’ll be lucky to receive a normal month’s pay.

We have all seen this movie more times than Groundhog Day!

    Again.
This will be disputed, turned into yet another court case(s) to simply add to the list for RIFC/TRFC
Kick that financial can down the road for for a while.

    BUT,
if/when these 6 get stiffed for their monies due – how would the TRFC squad react?

Trust – and motivational – levels could take a hit, and add to Gerrard’s management woes.

    Which would be nice. 🙂

    • Failure to pAy player salaries is a breach of spfl rules…. it has to be notified within 24 hours and clubs placed into administration if not settled within 48 hours.

  14. Phil, you missed out the instalment transfer fee monies due to other clubs.
I see the serious professional is getting unlikely praise from the Ibrox fanbase.
Standing up for the club against their many enemies they say.
Really? What happened to all the bluster about legal action against the SPFL if the season was called short?
Not a dicky bird from Robertson or anyone else at Ibrox though they must have been delighted to pick up the final SPFL prize money payment.

  16. It is really difficult to see them coming out the other side of this, Phil. TBH, I don’t care how many season tickets it costs us, Scottish football will be better off with out them. We might even be able to actually develop the Scottish game properly. Mind you, RFC-72 (looks a bit like a virus when you write it like that) and Sevco have given you so much joy as a journalist these past 10 years or so, You will need to find something else to write about. Maybe Hearts will survive; you could write about Mrs Budge. 🙂
