Familiar problems in the Blue Room

It is a common theme in history that those who topple the Ancien Regime today often become the arrogant aristos of tomorrow.

As regular readers will know, I have been charting the changing dynamic in the Blue Room since the Off License Putsch of 2015.

AS the years went by and his much-heralded money didn’t turn up several of his Concert part conspirators lost faith with the Convict Chairman.

Part of that process was the tendency of Mr King to change direction without consulting his Blue Room colleagues.

There are several examples of this:

  • His decision to resign the Admirable Warburton in February 2017. This decision came as a surprise to the chaps in the Blue room and to the ex-City Trader.

  • The signing of Ryan Kent for £7m after it had been discussed that the Liverpool player was too expensive, and Director of Fantasy Mark Allen had already sourced other players for the position.

There are other incidents where King’s capriciousness continually blindsided his Blue Room brethren.

Therefore, it was understandable that the new regime would be more collegiate, more collective.

Sadly, this Jeffersonian ethic does not appear to have lasted.

The Castore deal seems to be an example of this.

My information is that the Sevco High Command dispatched three emissaries to initiate negotiations with the Castore chaps.

That dignified delegation included the Conveyancing consigliere, the Serious Professional, and another director.

However, I’m told that this was not the triad who concluded the Castore deal.

Indeed, the Serious Professional was not in the room at the end.

A Sevco director recently asked him about the specifics of the deal, and he couldn’t give him information that he did not have.

He was there at the conception but not in the delivery room.

I’m told that there are THREE directors, including the interim chairman, who know the full details of the Castore deal.

I think that it is fair to say that the other chaps in the Blue Room would also like to be kept in the loop on this amazingly lucrative deal.

Your humble correspondent is convinced that there is a story here.

However, do not expect the copy and paste commandoes in the Stenography Corps to be any help on this one.

They’ve been told that the Castore deal is fantastic and that is good enough for them.

So this is the hard-hitting stuff they are serving up to their readers.

If they were journalists worthy of the name, then the PR pish they have been emailed would be a red flag signal to get digging.

Stay safe.

  1. Phil; I’m more interested on what this board actually DO, rather than what they say they will do. Therefore, a couple of observations on how the deal is being kept close to the chest.

    1) suggests to me that they have lost faith in the Serious Professional; either because of the recent fiasco with SOL or they think he may be the one leaking boardroom secrets. Or both!

    2) This level of secrecy is always the result of not wanting bad news out in open. Lets face it, if everything was peachy and above board they would care too much about what was known about it. No, it suggests that if real info of deal became public knowledge it might show all those tabloid headlines to be rather wildly optimistic (say by 80%). Or it could be that they don’t want it known that a certain person whose name is an anagram of Imke Shaley is actually involved with Castore (as rumour mill gossip has it).

The banter years has lots more lovely twists to come he he he!

  2. Not only is the Daily Ranger giving time to the asterik brigade who can’t get their head around the fact that Rangers collapsed post winter break whilst Celtic put on the after burners and took advantage, they actually gave some print space to a Rangers fan who said quote ‘Celtic were lucky to win the European Cup in 1967, and have been going on about it ever since.’
Wow, lucky indeed! Perhaps he doesn’t understand the statistics behind that ‘luck.’
Most goal attempts ever in a final, most goal attempts on target in a final.
Nothing lucky about it and if it had finished 7-1 or 8-1 that would have been a truer reflection of the game.

  3. I reckon the sports sub editor was asleep when the Daily Radar posted a list of the top 20 rated atmospheric stadiums in world football.
Celtic Park goes in at number 5 with not a mention of Ibrox or Hampden. Oh dear, someone’s slipped up on that one?
Surely that trumps the record number of players being linked with moves to Ibrox , or the improvement in the Ibrox squad just by donning the new Castore kit?

I can’t see this on Southpark now without making up my own wee inserts about the huns.

  5. Must be tooling up for a big launch. The Liverpudlian brothers have quickly sussed that the fanbase just want to hear good, positive things.
Thus the bigging up of the new merchandising quality, a quality so good that every player wearing the jersey will immediately add 10% to their game.
Perhaps an extra 10% on the price as well?
What chance do the rest have playing against a team of Supermen?
Is this the real thing this time around or will Castore fail to deliver on the promises, delivery, quantity, price, quality?

  6. I might be unusual in this regard, but until sevco became involved with Castore I personally had NEVER heard of them. If they were a household name, my house somehow missed out.

Now I read somewhere that they recently borrowed £500k to expand the business, but they sign a £20-25m (depending on where you read it) contract with sevco.

It looks to me as though sevco have acted in exactly the same way they have since their birth in 2012. When things are getting too tight to cope with financially, jump into bed with the first passing shyster you meet.

Possibly from their point of view the easiest option. Let’s face it, there will NEVER be a shortage of shysters.

  7. And still the media attempt to score points wherever they can.
Former Southampton and many other clubs recruitment guru Ross Wilson is astounded at the number of players being linked to Rangers by the media.
The ghist of the story is that with so many names being mentioned that then elevates Rangers to some top of the table promenance.
Not a major trophy in 10 years and Celtic on the cusp of a historic quadruple treble and this is the best the media can do to talk up the Ibrox club.
What planet is Hagi’s agent on when he refers to Rangers as Scotland’s Juventus?
That’s the Juve that has just completed 8 IAR in Seria A.
Gent were so desperate to offload the player that they agreed a knock down price and extended payment terms.
The only apparent answer they have to stopping 10 IAR is based on selling their current best players and replacing them with equally or more gifted players with a stronger mindset.
That will be expensive. Any new faces won’t know whats hit them when they realise the enormity of stopping 10 IAR.
Football fans as we know can be cruel but can you imagine the stick Gerrard and his squad will get if things don’t work out?

  8. Rather like our great leader, Boris the Clown, Dave the Fraudster was adept at “throwing a dead cat on the table” to shift the agenda whenever accountability was looming. This worked for Dave time after time – even with a deceased pride of moggies accumulating on and around the table – thanks largely to the MSM who clearly have not one working nose between them – the stench of feline decay has long been overpowering down Ibrox way.

However, it must be said that Boris and Dave possess an under-rated skill that should not be attempted by those less gifted who think it looks easy peasy – for fear of looking a complete arse – and destroying ones credibility beyond repair – amply demonstrated by the likes of Gove (eye test drives), Hancock (inane fake laughter) and Shapps (he stayed in place).

If the Blue Room is engaging in dead cat manoeuvres without the requisite personality disorders – I’d suggest we are in for some first class, cringe-worthy entertainment.

  9. The media keep running with the Castore deal as a £25m windfall to Rangers, blowing the previous Sports Direct deal out of the water.
That in itself wouldn’t be very difficult as unlike normal merchandising deals where there is money to be made by all parties, Rangers have already had to pay £3m to Big Mike with a most likely greater sum to follow when the courts are back up and running.
There seems to be a lack of clarity about the make up of the deal.
£5m per annum for 5 years or a payout dependent on sales volume.
Can’t be the former as a £5m guaranteed pay out could wipe Castote out financially, so it must be based on volume, therefore the £25m media headline is more wishful thinking than fact based!
Ditto the sale of El Gruffalo which will bring in enough money to fund a rebuild of the squad, really?
It’s as if there are no bills to pay, no further instalment fees on previous Gerrard purchases, no deferred wages, no deferred social taxes and Sports Direct no longer in the picture.
Our media never gets tired of talking up all things Rangers, there is no such thing as bad news where they are concerned.
10 years without a trophy, oops forgot about that Petrofac Training Cup, and I see many of the EBT pundits singing from the same hymn sheet as they calm the blue side with reassurances that it’s only a matter of time before that major trophy pops up at Ibrox.
Matter of time, eh? There is no time left, this is the 10 IAR season and thats what the history books will say no matter how much the blue side are in denial.

  10. I’ve noticed that myself, Phil! After much fanfare only a matter of a couple of weeks to one month ago, there is not even a toot about this “deal”.

The same applies to the far east investor – Scotlands oilfields may well be drying up slowly, but at least we can be assured that there is no shortage of snake oil down Govan-way.

  11. The plot deepens,I did see a letter on Twitter that claimed that Castore were applying to their bank for a loan in February 2020,don’t know if it was genuine or what the loan was for.

I can remember thinking IF this letter is genuine, where have they now got the money for a reported £20 million sponsor of the rotten mob? Something not quite right about this…

Like you say Phil, there IS a backstory here and it has a fishy waft to it,if you do decide to take this on I wish you every success in unraveling it,for there’s no one better suited to it

    • castore have a shop in liverpool 1 and there is a sign in the door stating ” coming soon ” not far from this location are the usual suspect sports retailers, sports direct jmb etc and of course the everton and liverpool shops ” good luck on competing with these outlets for customers ” They have a small office in tithebarn street not on the level of the square mile. I was reading an article in the liverpool echo a few weeks ago about this ” massive business investment from castore ” the echo quoted that castore had a billionaire family as one of there backers!!!!

      • Ah! The old ‘billionaire’ description,it just had to be there,so now we see their attraction.I wonder if Castore’s backer has the same ‘loadsa money’ background as Craigy Bhoy? El Skinto.

I don’t see Castore selling too much sevco gear on Merseyside,be interesting to see how this all pans out. This ‘billionaire family backer’ just sounds too good to be true, for me,this absolutely stinks…
