Deadly pathogens at Ibrox

When I first read of the events around the First World War the “Spanish flu” only merited a paragraph about the aftermath of conflict.

Like much of the history I was “taught” at school it was seriously wrong.

One of the key aspects of the pandemic that killed more people than died in the trenches was that the governments of the combatant countries deliberately denied the seriousness of it.

Spain was the first country to accurately report it hence the disease became associated with the country despite it not being the epicentre.

Failure to alert the public of the danger of the new strain of influenza put millions at risk.

For example, in Philadelphia, a victory parade gave thousands the deadly disease.

If you think this the irrelevant meandering of a history buff, then look at this from Anonymous.

It has been reported that UEFA have just announced that the Champions League and Europa League have been suspended.

I hope that these reports are accurate.

In Spain La Liga has already been suspended for the next two weeks and the Real Madrid team is in lockdown.

Consequently, allowing packed a stadium in Glasgow on Sunday during this global crisis is criminally irresponsible.

It is undeniable that Ibrox has been an incubator for some highly dangerous cultural pathogens for over a century.

However, the coronavirus is something that even the football authorities must take action.

I do hope that the world-class administrators on the 6th floor at Hampden will take note of events on the continent.

The option for Sunday is either to postpone the match or play it behind closed doors.

You don’t need to be a Philadelphia lawyer to argue that one…

    • Gary K – nobody asked you.
You keep commenting on everything as though you are some sort of great expert. You only show yourself up. Remember the old maxim – better to say nothing and be thought a fool than publish on line and prove it.
Do you not have anything else in your life that you need to keep giving the rest of us the benefit of your wisdom?🤔😂

  1. “spanish Flu” was sourced to a place near Calais, France where soldiers amassed before going forward to the Front in WWI.

This staging area where battalions would await call forward was called Etaples. It contained up to 100,000 soldiers at any one time in close relationship to wild and farm animals, which they ate. Plus thousands of horses.

It was cold, wet, muddy to the knees, poor hygiene, poor toilet facilities and rat infested. They were kept in close cramped conditions, and they started coughing. Coughing over each other.

They went to the front to fight, ill with Spanish flu.

    Bronchial pneumonia.

We have homes, comfort, central heating, hygiene, personal space, no war stress, no war gasses, etc….

Clearly congregating together in “gatherings” spread the disease. So why are we being advised gatherings are ok?

We are told to cough into hankies, bin them and wash hands. Or cough into elbows. But not to wear surgical masks.

Masks stop the infected coughing droplets everywhere. It’s a permanent hankie.

Masks also stop healthy wearers getting droplets on their face, nose, mouth. They work well. Asians know this.

So gatherings are ok and don’t wear masks Is the advice???

The PMs Chief Scientist guy stated something interesting after the Cobra meeting; he said we need people to catch it and get better to protect UK Society in the future.

What about protecting everyone right now?

  2. Uefa have NOT cancelled the Ibrox game tonight – that was misreported as they were only CONSIDERING action .

Medical experts ( any on here ? ) say that banning crowds/ gatherings has debatable influence on the spread of virus !

So many looking at this situation with green-tinted glasses ( same on the other side ) – simply looking for an excuse at petty point scoring .
Too serious for that – especially if you are in the most vulnerable group ( elderly with underlying health issues ) .

  3. The number of cases in Scotland nearly doubled today. If it continues to double each day until Sunday, there would be close to 500 cases in the country. That is 1 for every 10, 000 of the population There would be a statistical probability of 5 people walking into Ibrox carrying the disease.
How many more by full time ?

    • If we play the way we know we can, 49,200 fans will leave the stadium before the 15 minute contact period. That leaves only 800 jubilant celtic fans inside the Petri Dome, or to put it into context, less than 0.1 celtic fans likely to spread the virus. Mind you, if somebody hangs a sign saying BIOHAZARD at Ibrox, the klan will think it’s a directional sign pointing the way to the hospitality suite!!

      • Lol a mad tea-cosy beanie wearer on FF has had a go at the Atletico Madrid coach telling the Klan that he would never get away with those tactics at a big club like Real, Barca , or Rangers oh ma sides . As if he would go anywhere near they tramps . Sounds like the Klan member has been smoking them funny fags again and sharing a bottle of buckfsst with wee Coco at ibrox noise.

    • There must be 5,000 or more infected in Scotland.

Only an insignificant number of people have been tested.

Protect old people in your family’s and communities.

  4. Why are Man Utd and Wolves playing behind closed doors tonight but Rangers have a full stadium?

    What’s going on there?

Why are their host countries trying to stop the spread of corona virus but Scotland is happy to try and spread it? Until Monday!!!!!!!!!?!???! Whilst NS is on telly saying she is trying to DELAY infections at any one time??

    Delay infections or STOP infections?

Delay means they believe everyone will get infected anyway!

    MADNESS!!!

  5. I was on the school run and heard some guy, in the playground, saying he was heading to Ibrox tonight while commenting about the changeable weather! Totally agree it should be played behind closed doors.if not postponed. However it doesn’t do any harm to point out that the incredible victim toll of the Spanish Flu must have had the malnutrition of the people and the insanitary conditions of the countries as major contributing factors as well as one can only imagine the people’s underlying health issues both physically and pyschologically.
I think Tom Hanks is an interesting case given that although he is not young will be healthy and extremely well nourished.

    • Also perhaps a Philadelphia lawyer, of whom we have a few in the family on my mothers Donegal side, would point out that both clubs tonight are endangering their employees by having them mix blood sweat and tears with complete strangers and this would especially apply to Sevco as the Germans are from an area of high incidence.

    • So the wee woman in charge of Scotland with the face like a nippy sweetie doing her bit to help out the Klan by allowing tonight’s game and Sunday’s to go ahead. But as of Monday no crowds to gather more than 500 at a time really . So what is it then that this virus that’s going around will only become serious after Monday . Is there a sell buy date on it before it comes here . These decisions have been took to favour one club . Just how bad are things over there that they can put so many lives at risk for the sake of a few coins . I would let them have the £50 quid on Sunday and just don’t go . Their clutching at straws and desperate for that cash . Just think of the thousands and thousands of people using public transport tonight the bus the subway all in that confined space touching handles on buses and subways this thing will be fully blown next week but that’s ok because the Klan got their badly needed cash . The thing is as well the tea-cosy beanie wearers will be shouting wee nippy sweetie face down with the rest of her colleagues saying the SNP have it in for them . Classic dafties stuff .

  7. UEFA have shat it. TV corporation pressure and sold games? Big money calls the shots. UEFA will drag it on week by week, it will be national governments stopping football matches or playing behind closed doors, not uefa, not uefa paying compensation….
Expect next weeks meeting to be a 55 way talking shop that defers to the following week….
Meanwhile world class sports around the globe are closing down indefinitely.

Cobra meeting finished. Await Boris statement.

Their bell graph and phases science is total bogus pish. They should put all mitigation’s in place from day1 and police them strongly to save life and minimize infections. The same as the Chinese and Asian nations and Italy.

    Bell graph my arse.

  9. UEFA arrange video conference for all 55 Associations for next week. For them all to decide and agree what to do.

Some games remain cancelled, some behind closed doors. Depending upon which country and teams, border controls, national bans….

    • Current clinical advice is that banning gatherings has limited impact. Hygiene is seen as a more important weapon in the battle. To use the current situation as a stick to beat Sturgeon with is poor form, unless of course you have evidence that the current stance is incorrect?

      • “Current clinical advice”? That’s not from Hong Kong, Singapore, China nor Italian Doctors… that’s incompetent, inexperienced, bell graph theoretical british academics.

I’ve just read two experts tear strips out the uk government. Read 14.42 and 14.34 below:

        https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/live-cobra-meeting-coronavirus-government-17911199#2034175

I’ve literally seconds ago watched Sturgeon on tv saying “stop the virus spreading” but she’s allowing a 50,000 football game tonight and one on Sunday. She doesn’t walk the talk.

      • If banning gatherings has limited impact, how come it works for Hong Kong?

If banning gatherings has limited impact, why is Nicola Sturgeon definitely doing it, but not until Monday?

        Reply
        • No one’s banning anything. It’s advice despite the scientific evidence which is that there is no reason to suspect that large gatherings will create a problem.

          Reply
        • It works for Hong Kong because their government needed a reason to ban public gatherings and they conveniently got one. And before anyone thinks I’m some sort of mad conspiracy theorist, I’m not, but it was fortuitous for them to be able to quell protests by playing upon the health risk to the people.

  10. Hong Kong and Singapore have had Covid19 for seven weeks and immediately stopped all sports. UK now has 2.5 times their joint infections!!!

    Go figure!!!

    Reply
    • Well, HK and Singapore have a combined population of about 12 million. Whereas the UK has a population of about 66 million.
So 5.5 times the population, and 2.5 times the number of cases.

You could equally say that the UK Gov’t are being excessive and draconian in their reactions, given that China had 10k+ cases when they brought in major restrictions, whereas here it’s happening with 500 cases.

Again, that would completely miss the point, as China has a population of 1.4 billion.

      • there is also an argument that the british governments response is based, not on “science” but the fact that the french and germans are doing A so we will do B. As a resident of a country which has , officially “shut down”, eg my son is locked out of his uni course, his step dad has been told he can’t go to work (he is a physio, working with the elderly) my ex (also a phys) can’t hold group sessions with her clients.music events being cancelled etc.
As that drunken misogynistic racist cunt once said “there are statistics, damn statistics and lies” you choose.
Still it is odd that 2 mill travel on the london underground every day and no great spread of the virus is seen as yet, maybe the “crown” virus “respects” lizzy’s subjects

      • Singapore plus Hong Kong have a joint population of 13 million. They live on a small geographical area (particularly the 7 million in HK). They live on top of each other literally.

They’ve dealt with these flu epidemics for decades. They know what to do. They don’t congregate. They wear masks and they keep their distance. They wash hands regularly and wear gloves.

The large geographical area of Scotland in comparison to these small countries with similar population size would indicate we shouldn’t get the infection rates of them. But our infection rate is taking off. Why?

Well we haven’t stopped sports events and gatherings and we’re not wearing masks (particularly those with coughs).
