Insensible Sevco

When Sevco Scotland came into the world the folks at Hampden stated that they had to be parachuted into the topflight to take the place of Rangers.

Indeed, there were dire warnings that a handful of clubs would go bust “within weeks” if this did not happen.

Of course, it was pish.

The new club started at the bottom of the pile at no club went to the wall because of that.

Regular readers of this site will know that the club created by Charles of Normandy from the body parts of Rangers is a financial mess.

In many ways, this was by design.

The Gallant Profiteers built into the set up a number “onerous contracts” that would enrich the original investors.

The only such contract that Charlie did not draw up was the legacy manager from Rangers.

Super Salary was a burden on the wage bill that he didn’t want on his big Yorkhshire hands…

For the Sevco project to succeed as a cash cow, all Charlie and the boys needed was a gullible klanbase and the quiescence of the local media.

You know the rest…

Since the Off Licence Putsch, the Convict Chairman has been running the show on OPM.

Add to that the bill for the various litigations then there isn’t a lot of cash to spare at the moment.

Consequently, any unforeseen interruption to matchday revenues is highly problematic.

For example, the league fixtures being suspended long-term due to a weather emergency.

I suppose a global pandemic of a highly contagious disease that kills people is another…

The league authorities must now be seriously considering following the example of the leagues on continental Europe.

For the avoidance of doubt, they have told the clubs in the SPFL that they will have to weather this viral storm from their own resources.

At least one member of the league seems to have the begging bowl out to their fans.

Sensibly run clubs have zero debt, cash reserves or access to a credit line from a bank in order to enable them to weather such an unforeseen event.

For the avoidance of doubt, Charlie and the boys were not in the sensible business when they set up Sevco Scotland Limited.

They really weren’t…

  1. SFA/SFPL may not have a begging bowl but they are being allowed to play 2 games which will
frahelp them to collect around £5m before they bring in the new measures on Monday

No doubt they’ll weather this storm as well, if not better, as they have in the past. There is
absolutely no way of getting rid of them. They are harder to get rid of than the Corona.

  3. I have obtained the transcript of a telephone conversation which took place on Tuesday…

” Hello First Minister speaking ”
    ” Hello…Health Minister here.”
    ” Yes…What is it ?”
“Well as you know…our beloved Club is due to play on Thursday night in the Europa League.”
    ” Yes…and ..??”
“Well I am being asked if we should postpone the game or play it behind closed doors !!”
” God no…don’t do that…That would be a financial disaster for them..Listen what are the experts saying ?”
“Well I heard a guy on the Radio somewhere saying that banning crowds wouldn’t make any difference.”
“That’s good enough for me…give it the blue light to go ahead.”
“Sorry…don’t you mean the green light ?”
    ” Don’t be so bloody stupid…Goodbye.”

  4. If Rangers FC had any consideration for the health of its supporters and their families it would declare an emergency closed door game for Thursday night.

Anything else is high risk, dangerous and reckless.

If it goes ahead, Directors should be sacked as unfit by the authorities.

  5. Wednesday COVID-19 is declared pandemic.

Thursday evening the Scottish Government allows a Glasgow football match with a german club and fans to go ahead with 50,000 involved.

The German Club is from a high COVID-19 region.

Tens of thousands rebreathing air in corridors and stairwells and the air of hundreds around them in seats, singing, shouting, coughing, spitting, chanting….

Germans in Glasgow hotels, bars, restaurants….

Is it an SNP-GLASGOW Medical School (Glasgow Uni) medical experiment?.

    • Its pkay. Don’t worry.. No self-respecting germ or virus would even attempt to contaminate those that are already contaminated! These hun animals probably have the cure to this already thriving on them, like a staphyllouccus bacterium in a scientists petri dish!

    • As in the line from a song a few years back (It’s all about the money ) . The money creamed in for tonight’s game has already gone and they dont have it to refund anyone . It’s the same for Sunday’s game money in money out gone a wee bit Sally’s hair, hair today gone tomorrow . They will implode after Sunday as they wont survive the stadium being closed off . Hence Doncaster and his cronies at the SFA/SPFL getting it out there yesterday that they don’t having a begging bowl so don’t be looking for a bailout. Maybe they could ask right now for a bank transfer of the mystery £20 million . Opps silly me they are barred from the banks. .

    • The Scottish Government must act immediately. This is a public health issue and way beyond the abilities of the SFA to deal with.

  6. If a club told the SPFL that it would rely on fans not wishing refunds if games were cancelled/behind closed doors, then this is admitting that the club is not solvent.

Not being able to pay refunds for services not delivered is actually highly illegal.

Every company is required by law to provide refunds.

The SPFL, fully knowing this situation has to act and shut this club down.

Otherwise, it is in kahoots with a plan to screw customers. Pre knowledge of intent.

  7. Dermott Desmond and Peter Lawwell wanted them in the top flight.

    Second top at a minimum.

The SFL Clubs voted the new club founded 2012 into the bottom tier.

Founded 2012, died of coronavirus 2020.

These two games need to be behind closed doors. Coronavirus is in the GLASGOW community, it is in the Lanarkshire community. Herding 50,000 into Ibrox twice is dangerously liable.

  8. Is gaining an unfair advantage achieved when your opponents are forced to fly in late and seek alternative training facilities because your midden heap of a stadium is not fit for purpose ?
That’s two high profile games in a row for Sevco…what an embarrassment for Scottish football.
Also…you are allowed to play in front of your supporters…while your opponents have been told that the return game is a closed door affair.
    Another unfair advantage?
    As I said in a previous post…
If this mob fell out of a window…they’d go up the way.

  9. You would think that a basic requirement for any SPL club… is proof of current Business Continuity Insurance coverage.

Either the SFA or SPFL – or even both – should have that on their annual checklist.

    …you would think,

… as opposed to mentioning it when it’s too late to get cover..

The blazers at Hampden give muppets a bad name! 😦

  10. The club from Govan will be pressurising their friends at Hampden to let their next two games go ahead at all costs , they desperately need the revenue , and will shake every hand required to make sure that fans will be in attendance, after these two games then maybe they will abide by govt directions ,

  11. I suppose the virus can also be seen as an opportunity. Go into administration, blame the virus rather than accept responsibility for financial mismanagement, and take the 15 point hit this season. The crisis might also afford an opportunity to postpone the payment of debts due to this unforeseen turn of events impacting business. Hell, they might have to suspend court sittings as well.

    • They’d (assuming they survived) also start next season with a -5 point penalty and would have their squad decimated over the summer and have to rebuild (again) with whatever funds they could claw together. I think it’s clear that without a catastrophic season from Celtic…. the ‘TEN’ should be a formality.
