When partners fall out

I was surprised to learn that the regular meeting of the Sevco high command yesterday was rather sombre in tone.

Given the excellent result against Braga, the mood should have been quite upbeat.

If we Follow Follow the money then the victory over the Portuguese side meant that UEFA would be sending a much-needed cheque to Ibrox in due course.

As well as that the result put the supporters in a happy place which makes life easier for the embattled chaps in the Blue Room.

So why the dark mood yesterday?

I’m afraid the devil remains in the Retail.

My information is that the fine fellows in the Sevco High Command were having to peruse a very serious missive from their erstwhile commercial partners Elite.

Perhaps this is what was meant by this Twitter exchange 2 days ago.

Of course, it will not come as a surprise that there would be some legal response to the news announced on Administration Day that Sevco were taking action against Elite.

At the time I made this helpful observation on Twitter.

I spoke with one industry insider yesterday who works for one of the big sportswear suppliers.

He assured me that there was no way that Hummel would do a deal with anyone if that meant them crossing Mike Ashley.

Given that they had signed up with Sevco for a three-year deal indicated to my guy that the Danish outfit must have received some written guarantee from the Ibrox club.

This could get very messy indeed…

Now, we know that the Ashley case is awaiting a judgement on the size of the bill that Sevco will have to pay.

Meanwhile, Close Brothers are owed millions and their loan is secured against things that can be taken out of Ibrox and placed on a truck.

Now Sevco’s current commercial partners look to be getting lawyered up.

Oh, and one other thing:

I’m told that the terms and conditions of the last loan made by Mr David Cunningham King to the basket of assets are quite interesting.

One thing that the chaps in the Blue Room have going for them is that the local media will do as they are told.

Of course, there are very honourable exceptions to that general rule.

It is a shame that appeasement appears to be the default setting at Pacific Quay.

  1. Come 7pm next Saturday night the blue side’s season could be over.
If Stevie G thinks he’s getting it tight at the moment then he ain’t seen nothing yet.
Of course if this were to be the case then an early start could be made on preparations for next season, a very early start.
I doubt that will halt the tsunami heading Gerrard’s way.

  3. Lol the tea-cosy beanie wearers over in follow follow all having arguments amongst themselves on how long before Slippy G gets his P45 . The sevco fan that started the article has asked that his comment not to be deleted as he new of the backlash that would follow it . Tremendous stuff there dafties commenting on it saying they want Slippy to stay as well regardless of him winning nothing while he is there . Let the good times begin.

  5. Does anyone have any further information on a reported press release from Hummel/Elite regarding the legal situation between them and Sevco.
A prominent Celtic blog is carrying the press release as a statement of fact…but its now being challenged from other quarters.
I’ve been on Hummel’s web-site…but can find no evidence to support this statement.
Just curious to know if you Phil…or any of your readers …have any more information.
    Hail hail.

  6. The only way any of this makes the slightest bit of sense is if Dave King’s loan has Ibrox and all of the Rangers IP as security. He could then drive the club into Liquidation in the close season, claim his securities, then set up a Rangers 3.

But even so there are all sorts of complications. Would his ongoing cold shoulder stop him, or at least stop any professional advisors from working with him? How does this fit in with his duties as a director? Gratuitous alienation?

And on top of that Rangers are unviable as a football club without European money. They’d lose that for at least three seasons. On the back of both Rangers’ and Celtic’s recent efforts, the top two in Scotland next year qualify for the Champios League. Would the likes of Aberdeen and Kilmarnock be able to keep the co-efficient up? If he screwed Douglas Park over, would Dave King be prepared to fund the next few years by himself?

    • The answers to your first two questions are probably “yes”. I agree with your own implications on the other points. Very perceptive and hope you are right on the cold shoulder point. Very perceptive

    • If they get liquidated he can’t claim anything. Depending on the conditions attached to the loan(s) he might have claims against administrators but liquidation is the end of the road. As it was for the dead rangers. Before the birth of Sevco.

    • There is as much chance of them doing it as Sevco next season. They’ll HAVE TO downsize. Financially they don’t have an option. Unless a GENUINE BILLIONAIRE gets involved. That’s why I want Ashley away tae fuck from them.

Unlike the Celtic board, the vast majority of Celtic fans DON’T want a strong Rangers. I want them there for humiliation purposes only. I’m fully aware that’s a very unchristian attitude, but as a famous actor once said, “Frankly my dear, i don’t give a damn!”

  7. Reread the Hugh Adam interview today. I’d actually forgotten just how scathing of David Murray it was. The parallels are building up. Multi £m year-on-year losses being the one that hits you right in the coupon. An unsustainable business music model. Approaching a level of dept that can’t be traded out of.

It’s a bit like someone who’s lost control of a credit card with an unrealistic limit. At first they pay the bills. (Sevco probably missed this stage.)
Then the next month they over-extend themselves and pay a chunk of the bill.
The following month it’s a smaller part of the bill because now there’s interest as well.
And so on until they are only paying interest.
They keep spending and eventually can’t keep up with the interest.
Then it all goes pear shaped.

  8. While they are in the mood for yet more legal battles, I’m surprised that Sevco have not served a Notice of Complaint against Michael Stewart for “slandering” the “good name” and character of their loyal “servant”, James Traynor. Of course, it is only considered as slander when a person is sullied by a tissue of lies against the reputation of the complainant.

Go on, Mr Jabba… sue Mikey’s ass off him! I dare you!! 😉

  9. The only thing that is stopping the rebellion from the Klan at the moment is the results in europe . Once they are dumped from that tournament and further behind in the league BOOM watch the backlash kick in .

  10. It appears to me that The Rangers have Board guys who are not very smart for the markets they operate in. Be it merchandise, media, loans, football, branding, ….. they’re complete dunces at everything. Jabba is head and shoulders dunce in his field closely followed by the career criminal with world record convictions.

Jabba is no match for Mikey Stewart, and they’re scared of that. They’re scared of an educated, articulate professional telling the truth. They’re terrified of the truth.

They’ll never shut up the internet.

    • I particularly liked Jabba’s own goal when he continuously hiked up their transfer fee expectations for Morelos and that same player was then knocking on the Chairmans door for a wage rise commensurate with their bloated valuations of him, hence all of his improved contracts……fkn brilliant.
