It is always good PR to get a good news story out the day before a cup final.

Therefore, I wasn’t surprised to learn about the putative improved contract for Mr Gerrard and his highly competent backroom team.
It increases the potential compensation for Mr Let’s Go and his crew should a club come calling in the near future.

Moreover, at an additional cost of only £40k per week, all in it makes sense.
A well-placed source has informed me today that Sevco’s resident MBE will be around £10k per week better off with the rest (£30k) being distributed amongst his colleagues.
This is a departure from the ancient traditions of the seven-year-old club in that it is a shrewd bit of business.
Apart from the immediate PR dividend, it provides for the possibility that Sevco will receive a windfall cheque.
Moreover, I’m sure anyone who is currently owed money by the basket of assets will look on this news rather kindly.
Obviously there is little chance on Planet Fitba that this story will be subjected to any journalistic scrutiny as the Stenography Corps are in Old Firm raptures this weekend.

Then again, journalism isn’t really their thing.

🎵Ten men, won the ten.
Tra-la-la-la-la🎵
Ach, aw right. ONE MAN won the ten.
This should go down in history as the Foster final. He was BRILLIANT.
Regardless of whether TRFC wins today or at the end of the month…
January would seem like – potentially – the ideal break point for Gerrard from TRFC.
The driver could be either Gerrard wanting to move on, or TRFC cutting its cloth – finally – in the absence of new funds.
And I’m sure that neither Gerrard, nor his advisers, want to be around Ibrox when the cash finally runs out – and get caught up in all the negative PR, and the inevitable finger pointing.
Finance aside: personally, I didn’t think Gerrard would improve TRFC.
But he has.
He hasn’t won anything – yet – but, fair play, he has qualified twice for the EL.
The ‘footballing brains’ might be in his backroom team, but he is the manager.
If he takes some of his backroom team with him, IMO, he’ll do OK in the lower leagues down south, to build up his experience.
And nobody can deny: Gerrard attracts more attention to Scottish football from England and further afield.
IMO, the real challenge for TRFC, [apart from keeping the lights on], is finding a suitable replacement manager – who is not going to seriously underwhelm the bears.
And should they sign him on a better deal and then be forced to sack him?
I think they underestimate the Orcs once they take the hump with a Manager who is a serial loser then that would leave them in a right pickle.
It seems to me the game plan at Ayebrokes is to simply copy Celtic ( where possible) and hope that big bids come in.
Difference is of course Celtic sell from a starting position of being Financially cash rich as well as being successful on the Park.
Anyone looking at that game today will have seen a team below par win with 10 men against a side with no plan B.
High balls into the box is not a tactical masterclass by any stretch of the imagination.
Morelos in any of the Leagues that they hope will be interested in will be wary he would have been carded for simulation AND kicking out throughout that game.
He’s fluffed his lines for the 11th time against Celtic this will also have been noticed no matter how much Level 5 roll him in glitter.
Oh dear, Stevie G sending out the message that those nasty big Celtic players will be provoking poor wee Alfie today.
I’m sure that winding up the opposition was rife in his heyday and that if a player’s temperament was suspect then winding him up would be part of the opposition team’s pre match talk.
So they need to million pounds + to see out the season as well as Big Mike sitting there rubbing his hands waiting on January for his big payout as well . So the books ain’t balancing out at all and here they are dishing out improved contracts like confetti . I do hope Big Mike and anyone else they have tapped out are looking in on this . To me it seems like it’s a 2 fingers salute to all that they owe cash to . I would like to say its embaressing but its the KLAN we are talking about here .
Jabba must be tiny because gerrard isn’t tall is he.
In their financial predicament this can only be a gamble that someone will come in for him and they’ll get compo. Perhaps they already know something we don’t?
So far Gerrard is a complete loser as a manager; zero, zilch, da nada…
This is the final all in, last gamble, high stakes, high risk effort to scam some lifesaving millions. Which only keeps them going to June anyway.
There is no intention of paying an extra £2m over the next year. Only an extra £40k over the next month.
Gerrard is in the January sales window.
This cup game tomorrow is super important for selling Gerrard. For saving New Rangers, for saving Scottish football…… in their minds. But nobody wants Gerrard anyway.
What’s going on in their minds doesn’t square with the outside world reality. There’s little interest, if any, in Gerrard or Morelos, or indeed over priced lightweight Kent.
As the transfer window slams shut, if they are all still there, it’s over!
It’s always been the same good news for them before a Celtic game as if to boost their egos, hopefully they won’t be celebrating tomorrow
That is 2m a year – is it a squirrel before a cup final, or announcing the fact that someone is being sold
Exactly @ Phil…….
He also, stated yesterday, the size of GAP was not his responsibility, and that he’s only been responsible for the progress so far. Sounds like getting your PR message in first there again. 20 million and 3 teams, I think that at least you could expect is a cup and runners up spot.
IF this ends a week from hell from there, he will be termenadooo anyway. What is completely lost o the Rank n file, Brendan Rodgers ALSO signed a “new four year dea”l in 2017 when actually it was more of extension same here…. but the premise was still the same shrewd business…..One thing is for sure – they are not getting £9million compensations.
Still splashing the cash they haven’t got then eh? Nice one, just keep ramping up the debt levels. HH
