Ronaldinho and Rory Bremner

The silly season is meant to be at the height of summer.

However, on Planet Fitba the short winter days tend to throw up some quality pish.

This yesterday from the official Twitter account at the basket of assets.

No doubt like many of ye I was blessed to see the little Brazilian in the flesh.

In his prime, Ronaldinho was certainly a candidate for the accolade of player of his generation.

He reminded me of the days when the 12-year-old me was allowed to stay up late and watch live footie matches from Mexico.

I immediately fell in love with the team in canary yellow shirts and blue shorts.

Even when Ladislav Petráš opened the scoring on 11 minutes for Czechoslovakia it didn’t spoil the party.

It just spiced things up.

In my opinion, Ronaldinho would certainly have at least made the 1970 Brazil squad and that is praise indeed.

The term “world-class” is used far too freely by the chaps in the press box.

However, it is not out of place as a description of Ronaldo de Assis Moreira.

I was reminded of those days recently when I was in the room to the wee man play keepy uppy at the Web Summit in Lisbon.

As ever he exuded an air of chilled out bliss as he took it all in his stride.

Now, if you think Ryan Kent is in that category and you don’t want to get better then just keep taking the tabloids.

Of course, any wide player who can chip in with goals is value added to his team.

Ryan Kent has two for the season.

James Forrest scored two on Saturday.

The cold reality is that the 11th-hour acquisition of Kent was an act of potentially ruinous capriciousness by the Convict Chairman.

However, the Ibrox klanbase lap it all up.

They always do.

It is little wonder that some folks in boardrooms have such a low opinion of their customers.

For the avoidance of doubt, that isn’t confined to Ibrox.

This week the Celtic AGM is in town.

I recently spoke with one of the men behind what became known as “Resolution 12”.

During that conversation, I reminded him that it had been SIX years since the issue had first been raised at a Celtic AGM.

That timescale alone raises some troubling questions about the motives of the Celtic board.

I was at that the AGM in 2013 when the guys at the top table agreed to park the issue for further discussions.

It was, in effect, a victory of the requisitioners as it could easily have been voted down by Dermot Desmond’s millions of voting shares.

However, what has transpired since then has been a sorry tale of obstruction and prevarication from people in the Celtic boardroom.

Now it is back on the agenda at the club’s AGM.

The original resolution asked Celtic to question the authorities on the decision by UEFA to grant a licence to the original Rangers to play in European competitions in season 2011-2012.

Put simply, the deceased club should NOT have been permitted to do so because they had overdue payables to a taxing authority.

In Planet Fitba parlance the Wee Tax Case.

The entire saga was a massive failure of oversight and governance by the SFA.

The Craig Whyte trial yielded up a rich vein of sworn evidence to confirm the suspicions of the R12 requisitioners.

Celtic had asked the requisitioners for a “smoking gun”.

The trial of the Suave Billionaire uncovered an entire armoury of recently fired weaponry.

Consequently, the prevarication of the Celtic board heretofore is increasingly hard to justify.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is the logical destination for this case.

Moreover, the people in the board room at Parkhead know it.

Over the past six years, their inaction and delaying tactics have shown a distinct lack of respect for the original requisitioners, the shareholders and the entire Celtic support.

It will take more than Rory Bremner quips to make this one go away.

The current stance of the Celtic board isn’t silly, it is sinister.

  1. The current stance of the Celtic board is not sinister it’s financial. Two cheeks of the same ars as one can’t survive without the other. When Sevco went down the only club to lose supporters was Celtic . All other clubs’ gates increased.

  2. Clearly, Ryan Kent is one of their better players. But that doesn’t mean he’s that good. He probably will score more than 2 goals for them this season, but he’s not going to win them matches, specifically he’s not going to win them “big” or important matches. He’s…an ok winger. But the klanbase need a narrative and this shuts them up in time for the AGM.

In terms of Celtic’s perspective- pass resolution 12 ASAP. But passing it now is embarassing- 6 years ago was the time to do it, now it just looks petty. It’s bad PR for us now, but that’s a problem of our own cowardly making. The future of Scottish sport is more important.

  3. The only thing I can think of is that Celtic fell foul of the rules in an earlier period (perhaps our nine-in-a-row) and it was overlooked by the authorities at the time and the board don’t want it looked into until we have secured at least another nine. I would have expected the Res 12 guys to have looked int this, though.

  4. The talk at the AGM about Res12 will be kicked down the road as it has always been done since it was flagged up . The Celtic board have been getting lessons in doing this from their partner in crime the CHISLING chairman from sevco . I read today the BOOZE JOCKEY’S (Keith Jackass Jackson ) article in the daily ranger that Kent is up for sale in January due to his outstanding Ronaldinho performance yesterday . Really a player they still have not paid the full transfer fee up front for as he only arrived 2 months ago and the BOOZE JOCKEY’S got him out the door already for mega cash . Ah the good auld BENNY’S will be loving this FAKE NEWS story. The KLAN have form for this though as they got Docherty on the catalogue payments then tried to punt him to Shrewsbury a couple of months later . Ah the good auld CHISLERS over at sevco they never let you down for comedy gold .

  5. What is the point of pursuing Resolution 12? After all, the club that benefited from the malfeasance has been confined to history and those individuals who perpetrated the corruption within the SFA have now left office. Is this now just a cosmetic exercise?

    • Well paid Lawwell is still in office,he did’nt look after Celtics interest 6 years ago. When Sevco go bust Lawwell will do what he did 6 years ago, roll over and have his stomach tickled, pick up his hefty bonus and treat the fans like mushrooms.

    • If the matter is taken further, I would at least expect a root and branch cull of non-entities at Hampden, if not actual legal prosecutions in the civil courts. And, I don’t think the blame for this shambles lies solely at the doors of Ibrox, Hampden, and even Celtic Park – the sponsors will have played their part by threatening to withdraw their sponsorship unless “rangers” were permitted to remain in the SPL/SPL.

A good start would be the immediate removal of McCrae, Petrie, and that useless clown Maxwell. I’d also examine the role of the Compliance Officer.

      • Not sure there was a Compliance Officer back then. Vincent Lunny was the first and I can assure you Vincent is beyond reproach as both a man and a lawyer. I know him personally and have since he was a boy.

    • For me, the point of pursuing Resolution 12 is to ensure that those who failed to act in the best interests of their shareholders are brought to book. Furthermore, it brings the scandal into the public domain which will serve to prevent a similar occurrence in future. At present, all that has been consigned to history is a lie and the truth needs to come out.

  6. Per that photo above of Ronaldhino – I mean Ryan Kent.

    Regardless of actually ability,

any British player who wears gloves during a game played in Scotland is questionable.

Any British player who pulls his socks UP AND OVER his knees is unable to be taken seriously – nevermind being compared to a GOAT!

    That’s a scientific fact.

  7. Are we not all coming to the realisation that the whole fiasco – the EBTs, the “honest mistakes”, the UEFA Licence, the Five-Way Agreement – was all conducted with the knowledge and approval of the Celtic board?

Cui bono, follow the money and all that?

For the great majority of clubs in Scotland, the existence or otherwise of Rangers is mostly an irrelevance.

For all but one of the clubs in the top division, it’s handy when there’s some form of Rangers to bring their appalling fans round a few times a year and to keep some TV money coming in, but it’d be no big deal if there weren’t.

There are only 2 clubs for which the existence of a competitive Rangers is a critical matter.

    • I’d argue that for society as a whole it might actually be beneficial to have them and their toxic following.

Aw right, AW RIGHT!!! Hear me out.

Fifty thousand orcs or there abouts, go to that hole of a stadium using whatever bawbees they can ill afford. If that cesspit didn’t exist those same orcs would have nowhere else to go on a Saturday to vent their spleen. They would have all that extra money to spend in the cheap bars of their lodges, where conversation would very quickly turn to the reason their club(s) died.

That reason was obviously a DIRTY FENIAN CONSPIRACY!!!

The conversation would quickly lead to anger, then rage, then how to get even.

Believe me on this. Celtic fans WOULD DIE.

To those who say that is a problem for the police and the government and society in general I have one answer. Go and tell that to parents, wife, siblings, children, friends of the Celtic fan lying in the morgue.

I want them gone as much as anyone. But you should all understand this. There WILL BE A PRICE…… If, when.

Maybe even….the Celtic Board have this in mind. I’ve just thought of that one. Haven’t even said it out loud yet!!

        • Doesn’t mean to say you’re wrong Mo Chara.

I well remember the time the Huns died. 2012 sob, sob, weep weep.

2012-1014 what did we have in the dear green place? Orange marches EVERY friggin’ weekend with associated assaults and other shenanigans associated with the Blackshirts/ Orangeshirts. The Huns after all have to find some way of occupying their tiny, tiny minds. I’d far rather they were singing about murdering taigs/fenians, as opposed to actually doing the business against us. Been there before on one occasion. Not very nice, believe me. Hail Hail

  8. I am still debating whether or not to attend, but either way I will not be voting to reinstate all the directors as per rotation. I would implore all share holders who share your views to do the same. I, like you, have no confidence in this Board to protect our and our clubs interests. Maybe just maybe they might come to realise just how untenable their positions can become. The support have previous for putting effective pressure on previous regime’s. Don’t forget we finished in second place and runners up to these cheats, who’s games should have been recorded as 3-0 victories to the teams all those improperly registered played against, they owe us cup’s and league titles.

    • In 2008/09 Rangers had “staff costs” of £31 million for 44 players. Celtic’s staff costs were £38 million for 33 players. I can’t imagine Peter Lawwell didn’t notice the discrepancy.

I think Celtic’s reluctance on Res 12 might be deep-rooted.

    • He looks nothing like Paddy McCourt AND he has nowhere near the skill levels either.
Ronaldinho? Rapinoe has mer about her than Kent ffs.

      As for the Celtic Board…
They have over £30m sat in the Bank ( have done for months gaining Interest by the week) and donated £10k to the Christmas Charity appeal.
That alone should be telling you all what you need to know about our Board and their objectives.
I should think the man who’s statue greets them as they saunter into Work looks upon them with great dismay.
That sum is an absolute insult to the name of Celtic Fc.
