Putative interest in Sevco’s tough hombre has become something of a season charade on Planet Fitba.
The rest of us are meant to believe that the club is fending off eye-watering fees for the Colombian since January 2018.
Despite this, no one connected to the basket of assets can produce any verifiable evidence that there was been any firm on the table bid for Señor Alfredo José Morelos Aviléz.
My own sources tell me that there was one tentative inquiry about how Sevco would feel about a bid in the region of £3m.
Of course, everyone in Agentland knows that the striker is never very far away from another tarjeta roja.
Indeed, one scout that was sent to assess him in late 2018 was amazed at the leniency shown to him by Scottish officials.
I have to say I’m not similarly amazed.
However, I reckon that if Alfie was playing for any other team in Scotland his card count would be much higher.
As I was writing this piece I saw this statement from the Holding Company Vehicle.
Apparently the Sevco High Command considers that “…UEFA’s view of racism is wide ranging…”
Oh dear.
For the avoidance of doubt, the working definition used by UEFA is based on best practice and has its origins in the UN Convention on Human Rights.
So, dear reader, allow me to translate for you.
The subtext of the Sevco statement to their valued customers is that, unlike in Fair Caledonia, anti-Irish racism is not permitted in UEFA competitions.
Just like Alfie kicking lumps out of defenders in Scotland, he would soon be sent packing if he was playing in England.
Of course, the common factor in all of this is the compliance of a compromised media.
Craven and venal they allow this crap to continue in exchange for a quiet life and a press pass to Ibrox.
Those courageous fellows in the Stenography Corps faithfully regurgitate high-Level shite about mystery bids for Morelos.
Much more shamefully they fail to call out the fact that the Ibrox klanbase seems to have an issue with Irishness.
When journalism takes a long sabbatical then bad things tend to happen.
If the anti-Irish racism that is regularly heard at Ibrox was to be called out then the existence of the Irish community in Scotland would have to be acknowledged and afforded respect.
Now, it should not be left to a journalist in Ireland to be pointing this out to a country that claims to be inclusive and welcoming.
Should it?
A player is only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay for them.
As of yet no side has put any amount up for this overrated blow hard.
Besides his poor discipline he has yet to score against the only quality side in Scotland in about 10 attempts.
Do the purveyors of pash down Govonia seriously think Scouts are hanging on the words of their propaganda minister or the Scottish Meeja?
Aye ok.
Two tenner bags Jim…
We all know that TRFC needs cash, and selling Morelos for a decent amount of anything up to £6M would be grabbed at by the Blue Room.
But, what if TRFC is still within touching distance of the top of the league in January?
And then Gerrard has to just look on as one of his best players / talisman is sold?
Financials aside, selling Morelos in January could be the biggest self-inflicted PR disaster at Ibrox – and which could seriously dent their morale and title or cup aspirations.
But, the club is bigger than any player.
And Gerrard will certainly not take any blame if Morelos does leave in January…
[Lose Morelos, lose morale! 🙂 ]
The likely winner of the Morelos signature will probably be ‘Slimming World’. I wish someone would take him thereby leaving our players still able to father offspring. HH
AM is a dud, he has no pedigree as we all know. Mousaa, Eddy, KT and others we sold have all performed in shop windows the Ibrokes massive can only dream about. The EL is the only window he’s in of any note and TBF he hasn’t really shine against any quality opposition. So the price tags are like clouds, changeable, fluffy, dark and like wee AF’s rotten dial prone to precipitation.
On another note, Jim Fleming passed away, condolences to his Kith and kin and I mean his immediate family not the brethren as I’m sure they will find someone who wears their sock higher on one leg very soon and we will get more of the same.
I wonder how Stevie G will take it if Morelos is sold in the next window to pay off the SDI bill and the Close Bros loan?
The English clubs especially will be well aware of the Ibrox club’s financial situation and may feel that a low ball offer is the way to go.
The soon to be released annual results will be indicative of the current financial position and that will include income from last season’s Europa Cup run.
With a bloated squad, and a full year of Defoe’s salary, the operating costs will have risen with no significant revenue in transfer fees to offset the increase.
Rock and hard place comes quickly to mind!
SD AND Close Brothers bills! Not a snowballs hope in hell. He simply is NOT worth that kind of money. He’s English Championship at best. NOTHING, whether it be a house, a car, a work of art, or a football player, is worth more than someone is willing to pay for it at any given time.
So far no one has offered as much as a fiddlers fart for More-or-Less.
Phil, you shouldn’t take the whole Morelos thingy too seriously…so f**k if some muppet in the SMSM thinks Morelos is worth 5 million, 10 million or a hundred million of whatever denomination they care to contrive out of a hat. These peepul in the media are suffering big time, because even they know that it’s only a matter of time before THE END IS NIGH for the Ibrox mob. Let’s all chill out, pour ourselves a good stiff drink and enjoy the spectacle.
…and if in due time-the January window for example-the Huns are forced to sell their assets at rock bottom prices to pay the lecky, then we may well take Morelos off their hands for a few hundred thousand or so. Who knows, he may well turn out to be a good ‘un in the green and white hoops. Hail Hail
When Sevco first signed him I did some research on him. I was surprised we hadn’t taken a punt on him when I saw his goals record in, admittedly not major, leagues elsewhere. NOTHING I looked at mentioned his temperament. NOW, I wouldn’t touch him with the proverbial 12′ barge pole.
Charger, you would be an angry man too if you were playing for THAT mob. Think on guys like Dixie and Darren Jackson who had severe disciplinary problems before signing for the hooped-heroes.
He may well be worth a punt. Can you imagine the manky-mob if he scored a hat-trick against them. Hail Hail.
The best small minded country in the world
Another quote from the Rangers* statement:
“ There must be no singing of songs, or behaviour which UEFA could deem unacceptable”.
In other words “We’re quite happy for you to sing these songs but UEFA might not like it”.
perhaps the snp mp mhairi black can take up the anti-irish racism cause.
Can’t sevco just send Alfie back to Helsinki, and demand their money back, citing the Sale of Goods Act, or have they lost the receipt? 😄
