A brief communiqué from a busy writer

As I told ye all, this week was set aside of the Word Mines and I’ve made some progress, but more to do.

Much more…

However, that didn’t seem to sink into all of the visitors here.

The courageously concealed “ecumenicist” put a question to me today with a rather ad hominem tone to it.

Perhaps he suffers from Unsurpassed Dignity…

I took a break from the manuscript and contacted an Ibrox insider.

My question to him was apropos the news that Mr Let’s Go might be about to get a new player for the headline figure of £3.5m.

I asked him how this was being financed and this is what he sent me 30 minutes ago:

“Season ticket money, also hope to have Candeias & Morelos sold, offer on Candeias for 800k and Morelos has interest at 3.2m…….not the gazillions that was hoped for. Trying to punt the 2 Croats, Blackpool are trying to take Murphy on loan for the season, but are stunned at his earnings. We would still have to pay him 17.5k a week, as Blackpool’s max wage is 2.5k per week.”

Now, that is from a very well-placed source who has an excellent track record with me.

He has a granular understanding of Sevco’s cash situation.

Consequently, I’m fully satisfied with the integrity of the source.

It is worth noting that it is industry standard within football transfers for the payment to be broken down into three tranches.

The first instalment is paid upon the contract being signed and that is usually 40% of the agreed fee.

Therefore, Sevco will not have to find the reported £3.5m this week.

Unlike the heroically hidden I’m quite happy to put myself out there and adhere to a code of ethics on protecting those who provide me with information.

Now, for the avoidance of doubt, I do have to get back to other matters.

So, please leave me to my own (plot) devices.

My publisher would really like to have a manuscript on the date we agreed…

So, NOTHING more from me until the start of next week.

Non-negotiable.

Moreover, I will not be approving any new comments on here until Monday morning.

Therefore, save yourself the trouble until then.

Have a good one.

  1. This is make or break season for Stevie G and his charges.
Another trophyless campaign will not be tolerated by the fan base, especially if once again there and green and white ribbons on the 3 trophies.
It’s been a remarkable 11 seasons now since the Ibrox club won a Scottish Cup whilst the likes of Hibs, Hearts, Dundee United, St Johnston and ICT, all with comparatively tiny budgets have lifted the trophy.
9 seasons without a League Cup win, whilst Killie, St Mirren, Aberdeen and Ross County have done the business, again on minuscule budgets.
No need to mention the league title as Celtic aim for 9 IAR on the march to a historic 10th.
Whilst no doubt there is pressure on Celtic to deliver the goods they won’t be looking over their shoulder whilst Sports Direct contemplate their next move, nor the repayment of the Close Bros loan.

  2. I see Waddell’s article today has riled the blue side of town.
Imagine having the cheek to question where Rangers are getting the money to bring in 8 new faces, the latest of course at a price tag of £3.5m.
With claims of the club swimming in ST monies and merchandising income plus sponsorship monies there is a pot of £30 there to spend. Really?
However if you take 50,000 ST’s at say £500 a pop thats £25m, a big chunk of which is in instalments, deduct vat that leaves approx £20m.
Add, say, a generous £5m from merchandising and sponsors, ignoring the SD ruling, and thats £25m.
Running costs are £3m per month, £36m p.a.
That’s a £10m shortfall right away and lets not forget the Close Bros loan secured on everything at Ibrox which isn’t nailed to the floor.
The deficit last year will, in part, have been met by the funds generated from the Europa Cup run.
Kingco has made it clear that future soft loans are not an option, having already seen their hard cash exchanged for shares in a company/club/thingy that has never made a profit.
Failure to progress to this season’s Europe Cup group stage is not an option.
It’s noticeable that there a few Ibrox pre season games lined up, none of which are covered by the ST.
Ditto the 2nd leg of the Europa qualifiers, compare and contrast.
Waddell, like the BBC, is liable to find himself barred from Traynor’s pet journalist lambs who are on hand to talk up everything Rangers and take a sly dig at the Champions whenever they can.
Chris Jack at the ET, one of the biggest feeders of Traynor’s succulent lamb is so stupid that last week an article with his name attached to it informed his dwindling readership that the Ibrox club’s next round opponents in the Europa will be the team from Macedonia who, in fact, are playing in CL qualifiers and are favourites to be Celtic’s next opponents in the 2nd round qualifiers.
That’s the height of the bar being set by TMSM.
Not a big Waddell fan but kudos to him for asking the question that none of the rest of his fraternity dare do.

  4. Thought the bawbees must be coming from the ST money. This could be a disaster waiting to happen. Gambling with the season ticket money? As you would say yourself Phil, oh dear, oh dear. As for More-or-Less, £3.2m sounds to me like an outbreak of realism.

    • The ST revenue is the only source of significant funds.
Any transfer fees will be coming out of this pot as will the Close Bros loan.
Who knows what Ashley’s next move will be?
Stevie G wants to trim the squad otherwise there will be a lot of unhappy players in the dressing room.
He’s kidding no one on that any significant monies can be raised by moving the unwanted players out the door.
None of them will be on the minimum wage and sitting tight may be their favoured option unless their contracts are paid up.
