One city and two different realities

As I have stated here several times recently the financial reality at Sevco means that players will have to leave the building.

Of course, there’s nothing unique in that.

However, it is important for the Sevco High Command to pretend to their klanbase that they do not need to sell to fund the operation.

I was told today that there IS some genuine interest in Daniel Candeias.

My understanding is that the potential suitor is a club in continental Europe.

He is under contract until 2020, so there will be a fee.

However, at less than, say £1m, it will not alter the financial landscape at the basket of assets.

At the time of writing, there is no news of any genuine bid for Señor Morelos.

However, there might be an ethereal one…

As I have reported here passim the sale of the South American was viewed as something of a lifeline for the Sevco High Command.

Of course, the Colombian’s imagined market value did rather take a tumble as Scott Brown hit the turf last season.

That red card incident proved beyond all reasonable doubt to any potential buyer that the South American striker had a discipline problem.

Consequently, it should come as no surprise that he was not named in the 40 man preliminary squad for the Copa America.

It is worth noting that Eduardo Herrera is still on the payroll at Ibrox.

He joined in 2017 on a three year deal as one of Pedro’s galacticos.

The wonderful thing about such pish is that many in the Ibrox klanbase actually believed the likeable Portuguese spoofer.

Herrera is a reminder of those hilarious days.

My information is that during the loan deals with Santos Laguna and Club Necaxa only a portion of the Mexcian striker’s salary was picked up by those two clubs.

Importantly, he still has a year left on his contract with Sevco.

I’m sure if they had the cash then they would simply pay him off and wave goodbye to the caravan.

Then again, it all comes back to money at Ibrox, or rather the lack of it.

Meanwhile across the Clyde cash is not a problem.

Indeed, in Scottish terms, there is oodles of the stuff.

The biggest club in Scotland now boasts massive commercial revenues and a squad with genuine equity.

Moreover, there is no need for the Stenography Corps, acting on high-Level instructions, to creatively invent putative interest in any of Neil Lennon’s men

That is because there really are clubs who want to sign players like McGregor and Tierney!

The other important point is that there is no pressing reason for Celtic to push a player out of the door.

Moreover, there is no other side in Scotland that is currently fielding a player which cost them £9m.

No sporting advantage though…

Now, it does seem a very long time since this match.

Actually, it is just over six weeks ago.

Since then Celtic have signed a player for £7m.

The Director of Fantasy has told Sevco’s resident MBE that he will have to sell in order to buy.

And yet the chaps on the sports desks weave a narrative that this is a clash of equals.

Oh dear…

Tomorrow night the champions of Scotland are back in competitive action.

It is part of the craziness that Celtic’s most crucial fixtures in any season are the very first ones.

Whatever happens on the European front homes fires take precedence at Parkhead and this is another SPFL title that must be won.

I note that a firm of bookmakers, those emotionally blinded naïve fools, have just made the Hoops 1/3 on to make it Nine In A Row.

Everything else is detail…

NOTA BENE

Writing duties will take me away from this place for the rest of the week.

Well, that’s the plan at any rate.

You may recall what happened the last time I  marked out a quiet week of novel writing down the Word Mines…

Now, it wouldn’t be a normal week is Sevco were not in court for something or other!

I trust that Charlie and the boys do well on Wednesday.

Have a good one.

  1. Interesting read on the history of Celtic’s likely next round CL qualifiers from Macedonia.
They romped to the league title last season scoring a lot of goals in the process.
The club identifies with the large Albanian population in North Macedonia and their Ultras sing that country’s national anthem.
The club had to be reformed and start again in the bottom tier as the old Yugoslavian government closed down the previous entity which was seen as a rallying point for Albanian nationalism.
Their Ecolog Stadium has a 15,000 capacity.

  2. Stevie G’s charges put the 3rd best team in Gib in their place last night.
To give it some perspective most of the St J’s team have full time jobs away from football.
Gib has a population little more than double that of the Castlemilk area of Glasgow, so Wow and yes Ojo looked a player in this company.
I see, according to his girlfriend, that El Buffoon is going nowhere in the window, so those suitors from China, Turkey, et al, can look elsewhere.
Whoever is in charge of balancing the Ibrox books would have cringed at the girlfriend’s revelations.
There’s a Close Bros loan, (funny how no one refers to that piece of business as an overdraft facilty anymore) plus an invoice on it’s way from Sports Direct.
Of course Dave has the readies to hand that were not required to make an offer to the other shareholders, so no problem there!

  3. Got away with some slack moments tonight but it was as tricky a first qualifier as we could get.
Look like the Macecdonian team in the the next round as they had a one nil away win tonight in the first leg of their tie.
Glad to see Ryan Christie back on the park, we miss his energy.

      • No need to be Phil as once Jullien and Hendry are fit I doubt you will see him in there much this Season.
Tactically it allowed Mbombo to push up and create a 3 at the back which in turn allowed Ajer space and cover to break out from deep.
Neil Lennon once again showing the tactical noise needed in Europe and that Pragmatic approach to problem solving.

    • I thought the only “dodgy” thing about last night was the pitch, felt that most if not all performances were really good, I could pick out Jozo and that header out for the goal but that would take away from an otherwise good all round game. Big Kris Ajer was brilliant. Noticed him take some control marshalling things, we got back in numbers and their only real threat was set pieces and to be fair that goal was more scrambled than anything.

Eddy was cool calm and showed maturity to score, Sinky was cheeky as ever and let’s hope Mikey Johnson doesn’t do a Tony Watt

  4. Genuine question, who is this chap Eduardo Herrera?

Like nearly all of the Sevco squad, I couldn’t pick him out of a line up.

  5. Well here we go again, CL qualifiers, kicking off with a tricky one in Bosnia.
Last season was disappointing getting knocked out by a poor Greek team in the 3rd qualifying series of matches.
Get through this one and adding further to the squad before the window closes will bode well for the season ahead.
Griffiths is back and Dembele looks as if he will be a regular in the squad. Not forgetting Arzani who we saw little of last season due to his serious injury. A big welcome to the additions from Toulouse, Rapid Vienna and Bolton.

  6. I’m sure the Serious Professional had his head in his hands as Stevie G talked up the possibility of another 1, 2, or 3 additions to his squad.
More mouths to feed from the ST monies, the only major source of revenue available to them.
Merchandising? There are a number of the Ibrox club’s fans who believe the contract straightjacket that Ashley has them in is a product of the previous board pre Kingco.
They don’t realise that Kingco paid £3m to Sports Direct plus bought Ashley’s shares at a premium price and the end result is that the current deal, signed off on by Kingco, is a commercial disaster and it would appear that no one read the small print…….big mistake.
I see that Newcastle has again been linked to El Buffoon, joining Crystal Palace in the queue of admirers.
Is there no one in the MSSM a little bit credulous that the managerless Geordies may be ready to splash big cash on Morelos whilst Ashley is holding a flame to King’s feet with the merchandising clusterfuck and is fully appraised of the Ibrox financial position, so the chances of Newcastle responding to Gerrard’s come and get El Buffoon plea, do it now and make it plenty, is a non starter?
