Sevco sleeves versus a commercial giant

Sadly, in the age of the smartphone, the surveillance society is a reality.

Moreover, everyone can try their hand at photojournalism.

I am assured that this image not been altered by any digital skulduggery.

If you look carefully then it would appear that all of the chevrons do not seem to point in the same direction.

A cynic might conclude that counterfeit kits are entirely fitting for a counterfeit club.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly comment.

In many ways, it is a powerful metaphor apropos how Sevco do their off-field commercial business.

As I have written here before there is a part of the fitba multiverse where the folks at Hummel must be delighted with their decision to get into bed with Sevco.

When a sportswear manufacturer agrees on a deal with a football club they are hoping for lots of sales and good media exposure.

Oh dear…

Here in this dimension, the Danish sportswear company must be looking on in horror as the entire Sevco shitshow.

Indeed, I would not be surprised if the Hummel UK person had been summoned to Denmark to have his Aarhus felt for this fuck up.

Currently, there is the ongoing legal doing from Ashley, the megastore at Ibrox closed to the public, but perhaps open only on match days.

Is this what Hummel expected?

Was it really?

The year-end accounts (till 30th June) will reveal just how much Sevco have made from their arrangement with Elite Sports.

Even if Big Mike was to come over all fuzzy and forgiving and decided to let it go, the revenue from the car boot sale will be tiny next to what Celtic are pulling in.

For the avoidance of doubt, General Ashley isn’t likely to offer terms to the battered Sevco High Command.

Instead, he will demand nothing less than unconditional surrender and a large wedge in reparations.

It is worth noting that even after this litigation is settled the June 2017 contract remain extant.

Just look at this gushing pish from 2015.

Of course, it was swallowed whole by the Ibrox klanbase.

Across the city, it is like another commercial universe.

Today Celtic launched their away kit.

The presentation of the latest New Balance line of Celtic merchandise was what one would expect from two professionally run outfits.

This is how it is done.

Moreover, there are no embarrassing photo ops at the airport.

Meanwhile, the Ibrox klanbase remains a centre of excellence for credulousness.

They seem utterly convinced that, just like last summer, this will be their year.

The failure of Eros Genc Grezda to make a mark-a £2m acquisition for Mr Gerrard is a costly mistake.

At Celtic that transfer fee which is in the realms of a petty cash voucher.

However, at Sevco it is an outlay that must produce a stonking success.

Starting to see the problem here dear reader?

Of course, Sevco are trouncing their rivals on the back pages as there are no football matches to spoil the narrative.

I’ve noticed a few valiant attempts to sell Kieran Tierney for less than the same hacks have valued Alfredo Morelos.

Nice try guys.

No, seriously, great effort.

No doubt you’ll be there at the Stenography Awards later on this year.

Compare and contrast what a genuinely respected journalist thinks on the KT issue:

The forensic reality is that Celtic have genuine equity in their squad produced from the academy.

No one who supports the Hoops will want to see KT out the door anytime soon.

However, if he goes it will be for a club and Scottish record fee.

As I have reported here before my information is that there is a substantial release clause in the fill back’s contract.

This is well known within football circles.

Consequently, Arsenal were definitely at it with their £15m initial bid.

The basic fact of the matter is that Celtic do not need to sell ANY of their top players.

That is something that cannot be said about Sevco.

If Celtic’s valuation is met for any of their squad then it will come down to the player himself.

Yes, there is always the chance of a Moussa Dembélé type situation.

That is where a top talent is lost on the last day of the transfer window with no time to source a replacement.

It is worth recalling that Celtic took that hit last summer and were able to strengthen, mainly via loans, in the January window and kick on to another treble.

It isn’t yet a calendar month since that final victory at Hampden and the local media are trying tier mediocre best to scream that all is changed on Planet Fitba.

Of course, Sevco will win the close season, they always do.

Their difficulties start when the football begins again.

It always does.

Have a great week.

  1. This isn’t ‘fake kit’, this is the Sevco lads unwittingly displaying the much vaunted ‘As above, so below’ sign as favoured by all followers of the Baphomet.

Not sure about that, as I’m pretty sure there was a tie in 2012…with Rangers (RIP).

  3. Phil.
There’s an instagram post doing the rounds showing a letter offer from Arsenal for KT.
Offer made 22/6/19, consists of £18m minimum + potential £7.5m of add-ons based on first season stats (£2.5m for achieving each of…50+ games, over 10 assists, 5 or more goals).
I assume this to be their 2nd offer.

    Any corroboration from your sources?

  4. this time last year we were laughing at the torn tracksuit and the sevco players cooling off in wheelie bins. we were speculating that stevie would be gone by christmas.
but things turned out much closer than we thought.
for sevco to be challenging for the league they don’t need to be world beaters. they need to be able to put a team on the park that can beat ross county, hamilton, motherwell et al.
if the players they have signed even slightly improve last season’s team then things will be even tighter this season.
and we don’t look as strong as last season.
i have faith in our board.
    to mess things up.
    they have previous.
    and so sevco have hope.

  5. They have actually purchased two sets of kits for different days.
One points to the arse, the other points to the elbow.

  6. I listened to Super scoreboard a few nights ago and heard one slightly troubled Sevconian look for reassurance from the guys on the panel.

His problem was that his Celtic supporting mate keeps going on about a big bill coming Sevco’s way from Mike Ashley and Sports Direct.

He plaintively said that he hadn’t heard anything of the like and wondered if any of the pundits on the show had heard anything about this ‘nonsense’ themselves.

Of course there was a resounding ‘no’ from all involved.

Thus reassured the Sevconite then went on to discuss all the big money signings Sevco could make during the close season.

    Gullibillies indeed!

  7. Phil, I note young Jake Hastie in the picture. You may want to ask if compensation has been paid to Motherwell yet ? Despite Motherwell’s requests payment apparently is taking its time.

  8. Phil – how very dare you imply that one of those “rangers” players is wearing counterfeit merchandise. I am given to understand that one is a Limited Edition designer issue – created by Alexander O’Neal. It’s not only his hit song from 1998 that is called FAKE.

I’m guessing that both players will be involved in some sort of tourism activities whilst dressed in that kit – I think the chevrons on the sleeves will be used as directional signage, perhaps to point in the direction of some tourist attraction, or even used in traffic management situations where some sort of carriageway control is needed, to filer venues from 2 lanes into 1, or something. I’m quite sure Hummel put those chevrons there for more than just purely aesthetic purposes.

  9. Would be sorry to see KT leave of course, but he has earned the right – and deserves – to choose.

If Ntcham leaves as well, (I would not be sorry to see him go), then Lawwell could have a rather large pot of unbudgeted cash to replace them – totalling possibly north of £30M ?

But how much of this cash pile would Lawwell earmark to reinvest: 50%, 25%, 10% ?

[And this reinvestment would exclude Turnbull as he has already signed (?), and NO – having Leigh back is not ‘just like buying a new £6M striker’).

  10. It beggars belief that the previous board were much maligned for the deal with Sports Direct with the Scottish media making the most noise about the meagre pennies in the pound as Rangers share of merchandising revenue.
But along comes Kingco and the infamous £3m payment to Sports Direct which was trumpeted by King, and duly reported by the media and in the narrative to the annual accounts, as a final farewell to SD and the much hated Mike Ashley.
Of course King’s claim turned out to be pure invention as Ashley continues to haunt the Ibrox corridors waving a watertight contract signed by the new board in their faces.
Now in the real world someone would have paid the price for putting their name to a contract detrimental to the financial health of the club/company/thingy.
Not content with that potential financial disaster another contract signed by the board with the company charged with creating a suitable memorial to the dead and injured of the Ibrox disaster has also resulted in yet another court case.
Whose going to take the fall this time?
