This would not be a good day for anyone in the tourism promotion business in Glasgow to be out and about in the city.
Around now the folks from Call It Out are assembling outside St Alphonsus Church to silently protest against an anti-Catholic march.

Last year the parish priest Canon Tom White was assaulted as a similar march passed by this place of worship.
One of the marchers, Bradley Wallace, was jailed for 10 months for the assault.
For many in the Catholic community within Glasgow, this crime was a turning point.
Despite this fact, Glasgow City Council saw fit to ignore numerous requests to re-route this anti-Catholic march today.
Here is some video footage from Angela Haggerty who is outside the church.
Earlier today there was a “Defend the Union” march in the city.

It would not be overreaching to suggest that some of the UK’s defenders could also find themselves walking past St Alphonsus.
The Ulsterisation of Scottish politics is now pretty much complete and denial isn’t a grown-up response to that reality.
The “one Scotland many cultures” pish just won’t cut it.
Such fluffy feelgood nonsense is best kept for tourist brochures.

Having allowed the political front of the organisation (New I.R.A.) which murdered Lyra McKee to march through Glasgow, the City Council could hardly ban the O.O. from doing the same thing. I trust the trade unions and others who protested against the Orange march were also out showing their opposition to Saoradh. Call me naive, but would it not be possible for the organizers of O.O. parades to contact the relevant parish priest to check the times of masses, etc, to ensure that nobody was present in the church at the time they were due to pass. I also think it’s completely wrong to say that Scottish politics has been “Ulsterised.” As far as I know there has never been a Scottish political party which had the use of violence and political murder at the very core of its belief system. Unfortunately for us in N.Ireland I can think of at least two which fell into that category.
I recall many many many Orange Order marches in Glasgow for well over 50 years when Labour were in charge of GCC, but not quite as much hatred shown to Labour as there seems to be to the SNP on this blog. Labour are a Unionist Political Party. Still baffles me why Irish freedom/Unity supporters want a united Ireland but are happy to vote for Scotland to stay part of that self same Union they want the island of Ireland to leave. Freedom for Ireland, Slavery in the Union for Scotland. BTW Im a Scots/Irish RC who votes SNP.
OO where handing out Saltires to be waved along with the Butcher’s Apron but as soon as the camera crews left, the Saltires where swiftly dumped.
And yet the Catholic Turkeys line up in their droves to vote for Christmas by endorsing the SNP, a party at its core that will seek to eradicate Catholicism in this country by pushing the “close Catholic schools” agenda.
The SNP can count on the unswerving support of people they will cast asunder as soon as their only purpose in life is attained – independence.
The “we are only voting for them to get independence then we will vote for someone else” argument is a non starter because there is no other party who could be whole heartedly supported. If a new Socialist Democratic Party was to emerge it would take at least a decade to gain a foothold. In that intervening decade the unionists and silent majority in Scotland who have anti Irish anti Catholic sentiment hewn in their DNA will demand their voice in an independent Scotland and they’ll get it as the box ticking self preservation artists at Holyrood seek to stay in power.
Scotland is a bigoted toilet.
The minority who seek parity and an end to the bigotry ain’t seen nothing yet.
They are going to give the bigots the mandate to tear them apart.
So we need to vote for the Union, because if we don’t we’ll be somehow at the mercy of the angry Unionists? Not sure I’m quite following that logic.
The Labour Party in Scotland is a dead man walking – currently polling around 17%, below even the Tories. If there is an urgent need for a Scottish Socialist Democratic Party then you’d best set to work getting it going now. The demographic on independence has been heading in a consistent direction for five decades. It’s only a matter of time now.
In 2014 over 2 million people voted for Scotland to remain in the UK.
It would not be overreaching to suggest that the 2 million included many catholics who would not be best pleased to learn that this somehow links them to the bigotry of the orange order.
If they somehow missed the fact that voting for the Union might just link them to Unionism… ermm they’re maybe not the sharpest?
Hear, hear well said Phil and Call It Out,I hope they get a decent sized crowd.
It’s well past the time when Scotland has to ‘get real’ and GCC has to massively improve too.
Good luck to All attendees against this showing of complete ignorance,IF it were ANY other race than Irish, and God forbid Catholic too, there would be such a public outcry you could possibly hear it on the Moon 🌓 TAL🍀
Shame on Glasgow City Council for allowing this bigot fest to pollute the city.
Questions should be asked in the Scottish Parliament about the growing acceptance of Fascism in this country.
It really is only a short step from this to neo-Nazi marches past the synagogue.
It’s 2019. What on earth are the council thinking on?
They are desperately trying to hold onto their kkkulture.
Modernity and progression is leaving the Neanderthals behind.
These wee marches are akin to a child stamping its feet in the sweetie isle at Woolies when their maw said naw to them in the sweetie Isle.
Ps Woolies were of course Liquidated.
Ironic.
That lot won’t march past the Synagogues or Mosques while there are Catholic Churches for them to get their rocks off abusing.
To think that my hard earned wages are taxed to Police hatred makes my blood boil. HH
