It was a Vojvodina moment today for the big Croat.
Indeed, if this had been a movie then Jozo Šimunović on 67 minutes would have been considered a tad contrived.
Moreover, had the director insisted that he also wore Number 5 jersey and headed in the winning goal then the script doctors would have suggested major surgery.
I suppose that just shows how difficult it is to write convincing fiction.
It always has to be less in your face than reality or no one will believe it.
Celtic are now within one point of 8IAR.
That might be decided tomorrow at the stadium John Brown played for.
I thought it very decent of Mr Let’s Go to do the team talk for Derek McInnes.
The implication that Aberdeen players are selective in their efforts in Glasgow depending on who they are playing was risible.
The charge that the Dons “don’t lay a glove on Celtic” should be directed towards Mr Ryan Christie…
Of course, these are the errors of a rookie manager.
I also think that his naiveté is also evident in his apparent belief in the recent assurances from the Convict Chairman.
I’m told that the resident MBE firmly believes that he will get a substantial transfer budget in the summer and that he will receive all player sale revenues to reinvest in the squad.
Although he was steered away from this belief by the Director of Fantasy it was the impecunious leader who reassured him personally.
Once more the skill set of the Sevco chairman is a wonder to observe.
That is why I do not hold out much hope for the anti-King faction in the Blue Room.
Meanwhile in a development that will rock professional football the club in Scotland with the biggest football budget is on the cusp of another league title.
It is almost as if superior finances confers some sort of sporting advantage.
One could characterise this imagined “old firm” title race as a non-contest between the imperious and the impecunious.
The numbers favour undoubtedly Celtic and that usually adds up over the season.

RIP Stevie Chalmers, a sad week for us indeed.
Super performance today by Nick Walsh, another of Fleming’s fast track duds.
Two dives by Katic, the second one an absolute joke sealed the deal with penalty kicks.
In addition he ‘missed’ the slap on the face when Defoe needlessly raised his arm when challenging the Dons goalie.
Compliance Officer anyone?
What is the Rangers goalie on? For the umpteenth time this season he’s reacted violently to being barely touched by a Dons player.
One rule for him, another for everyone else?
This is the 4th or 5th occasion this season when he’s reacted to an opposition player getting close to him, yet only been pulled up by the SFA on one occasion.
Looks as if Gerrards mind games did the trick today as Aberdeen put in an hapless display, what with being accused of trying too hard against Rangers.
No matter, will the fans be celebrating 2nd place?
Of course there is worse to come with Celtic on the verge of 8 IAR and a Scottish Cup final.
A treble treble that Kingco will do their bestest to play down but the history books won’t lie.
As 9/10 IAR come into play there will be many attempts to denigrate Celtic’s achievements.
Of course the wee matter of Rangers trophies won in the EBT era is not up for discussion.
It’s amazing that their fans and the blue facing media cannot live with the reality that Rangers 1872 died in 2012 and the current entity has yet to win a major trophy.
Not put down to the lower leagues, not relegated, but liquidated, end of.
Your ” Vojvodina moment ” quote brought a smile to my face as a great memory came back.
My mate Jimmy and I had been watching the game from halfway up the Celtic end terracing behind the goal.
We lived out of town and had to watch the time for our last bus …so we made our way past the big pylon and stood right at the top of the terracing ready for a quick exit.
We were convinced that the next time we saw Vojvodina would be in Rotterdam for a play off.
But I’ll never forget looking away down the pitch as we won a corner in the final minute…we couldn’t see clearly because of mist and fag smoke…but out of the mist came a floated ball from the Charlie Gallagher corner and there, rising majestically to meet it and bullet it into the net was Cesar….and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks Phil for the reminder.
Happy happy days.
R.I.P Cesar.
Now now Phil, thanks to Lord Nimmo Smith’s best work, bless him,he concluded that there is absolutely no correllation between a club’s finances and the success or otherwise of a football team. He said it therefore it must be true!
Was it him or another eejit who popped up to say that all the other SPL teams could have just followed the Rangers model and paid the biggest tax free chunk of their players wages via EBT’s?
Wonder how HMRC is getting on with collecting the millions owed to the public purse by those lucky enough to have been in the EBT queue?
After the massive turnout for the recent protest by the Union Bears against BBC bias, actually there were barely enough of them to hold up their banner, the SPAD demonstration yesterday in George Square attracted around 100 protesters.
Perhaps an indication that Scottish Protestants Against Discrimination couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery or the numbers were a true reflection of the lack of belief amongst their kin, or perhaps it was a wee bit wet and an early morning start that kept supporters away?
Gerrard should be hauled before the SFA for bringing the game into disrepute.
His claim that Aberdeen try harder against his team than against the Champions is a ridiculous assessment.
Add that to his claim at his first press conference where he accused the Scottish referees of being biased towards his team over a number of years. Wow, that’s one breathtaking statement of stupidity.
We know he’s not the smartest cookie in town by a long shot but unless someone’s pulling his chain then he’s a very silly boy.
It’s the imperious v the impervious I’d say Phil. No matter how resolutely Mme. Reality drums it home to them, she doesn’t seem able to get through. Awkward thing is, she’s a very determined lady, to whom Surrender is unknown.
It’s just fortunate that the directors of Sevco are more susceptible to reality than their fans, and will surely keep financial matters well in hand.
After all, under UK law, company directors who knowingly trade while insolvent can incur personal financial liability for that company’s debts. And if such a situation were (unthinkably!) to occur, it wouldn’t be our Gauteng-domiciled hero who’d be in line to carry the can…
On the anniversary of the day the man himself won the 9th of the only honest 9IAR
It was a magical moment, and a real McNeill goal – 3 feet off the ground and power from neck and shoulders. The only goal I can remember like that the entire season. We need at least 1 central striker, and possibly two. To win the league with one striker, and OE is not an orthodox central striker by any means, is truly remarkable. It will not happen again. It needs to be addressed
Wow for those of us who believe the only and winning with a header goal comeing in the 67 minute by the man wearing big Billys number was made in heaven, and was proof once again that there is something else beyond, for those like youself Phil who dont want to, still enjoy the wonderful moment, but you wont enjoy it as much as those of us who believe that Big Billy was watching us struggle to score and decided to help out in the only way fitting.
Thanks Cesar and God bless you and Celtic and our supporters.
We are more than just a football club
HAIL HAIL
Phil; slightly off topic but wondering if you knew when decision on the Ashley court case was coming down? Wondering, if Ashley wins, and it is a big judgement, would he move to ring fence monies out of the season book monies and or various payments from league?
I reckon by the time Ashley is finished with him, Sports Direct will be selling their own-label South African wine, and Dave King will have his tootsies treading those grapes for his boss!!
If he wants to be sure of seeing it, he really should. Out of curiosity, I wonder if Close Brothers can “call in” their loan if they feel that its repayment terms are threatened in any way. Or would Sevco attempt to borrow even more from THEM, to pay off Big Mike.
We won the event with a single goal, made in heaven. No doubt big Billy was behind it. C’mon, if you ever imagined Jozo wearing No5 would head in the winner in the 67th minute, you’d have been listed as missing. It was a spiritual moment, one I will remember for the rest on my days. Rip Big Man!
Totally agree
Another great goal from King Billy who can doubt it.
Aye, truly unforgettable. It was kind of like the bolt of lightning shooting across the sky at the precise moment Tom Rogic sealed the INVINCITREBLE.
It was a lovely touch from big Jozo to give his shirt to Cesars’ wife after the game.
It’s almost as if big Billy is sitting up there, seat next to some of the greats, gets to choose a moment that will remind us who we are and how we got here on the very brink of history, again.
