I’m told that in the immediate aftermath of the match yesterday there was a new PR plan put in place at the basket of assets.
My information is that it’s a two-pronged strategy.
Apparently, the first one was to focus on the behaviour of Scott Brown in order to deflect from the indiscipline of the Sevco players.
Nothing surprising in that I suppose and actually quite sensible.
However, the second part of this new PR campaign was instructive,
The order that was given was very simple-brief against Mr Let’s Go!
As ever at Ibrox, we have to follow follow the money to find the motivation fo what emerges from the Blue Room.
Quite simply the resident MBE now wants a rebuild in the summer that the Sevco High Command simply cannot afford.
Therefore, it would be financially beneficial for the cash strapped club if Mr Let’s Go was to…well…go.
Now, if he instigated that then the compensation owed to him would be minimal.
I realise that the stock of the ex-U18 coach from Liverpool is currently quite high with the Ibrox klanbase.
However, that could change.
Some of the wiser heads in the Blue Room realised at the start of this season that a league win was probably beyond them.
Even with the summer transfer shambles at Celtic they still had a strong squad packed with title winners.
Moreover, the champions had the financial muscle to strengthen in the January window and this is what subsequently happened.
However, the Sevco High Command did think that a cup win was not out of the question.
Consequently, Gerrard’s failure in both of those competitions has probably damaged his standing in the Blue Room somewhat.
To compound that he wants a ruinously expensive spending spree in the summer.
It is worth remembering that in January the Ibrox club brought in two players on loan(Davis and Defoe) who have contributed little so far, but cost a combined total of £80k per week.
This is seriously daft behaviour and completely unsustainable.
So, if Mr Let’s Go persists with his spending plans then something will have to…err…Go!
Of course, he might see the financial sense of the opposing view and agree to work with the reosurces that Sevco can give him.
If he does not then I can see a bit of a collision in the summer.
One thing I was told today was to keep an eye out for the former Osijek player Borna Barišić who was signed last summer on a four-year deal by Sevco.
I’m told that he will now be puffed up in the local media as the new highly valued asset that everyone in world football wants to sign.
For the avoidance of doubt, I have no opinion on the abilities or putative value of the player in question.
However, I do think that this new PR fiat to the usual suspects within the Stenography Corps is significant.
It probably means that Operation Sell Alfredo is not expected to bring in the money that is needed to pay back Close Brothers and keep the lights on.
Meanwhile, across the city Celtic have tens of millions of pounds in the bank and a squad with genuine equity.
No sporting advantage though…

I thought the strategy would be “Morelos staying is like signing a 20 million pound player”. Bet they get there.
That might yet come to pass when they realise no one else wants or rates him.
The boy actually DOES have goals in him. Pity there’s NO brain in him.
No problems for the Gers Phil , none at all.
Just heard a punter on SSB, whose in the know, say that Gerrard will have £30m to spend in the window.
Money coming from down south apparently.
Kent will be signed asap for whatever Liverpool want for him. There will also be another marquee signing coming on board.
Add in the Hastie and Greg Stewart signings then all will be well at Ibrox and 55 is on the way.
When it was pointed out to him that the Hastie deal was off he soon derided the panel of that notion because his sources were far superior to those in the panel.
Oh hold on, down South, could that he south of the Limpopo?
Whats this about the SFA looking at Broonie’s behaviour at the weekend.
Are they joking after letting the Columbian nutter walk away from his various misdemeanours at the Ibrox game?
What are they looking to charge Broony with……smiling with excess force?
Massively off topic Phil but I would like to know your thoughts and my fellow Celtic fans thoughts on me not wanting Neil Lennon as our full-time Manager going into next season.
I think we would be signing him for all the wrong reasons (he is free. his past etc etc) and I personally would like to see Marco Rose given the job.
Thoughts would be very much appreciated…
HH
Yeah because Marco Rose wants a job in Scotland and not the Bundesliga and Celtic can outspend Red Bull……………………
If only I am wrong, but can’t help thinking this is Deludemol level nonsense.
Can you explain why Celtic would be a step up for him?
He is now linked to Borussia Mounchengladbach. how stupid is your comment now eh? aye coz they are massive spenders !!
Er, I think you’ll find they’re in the Bundesliga and don’t play in Scotland. You haven’t explained why Celtic would be a step up for him.
Was there a terrorist attack in Glasgows merchant city on Sunday evening that has been ignored by the media, covered up by the police, and not commented on by the Government?
Stevie G’s team last win was 6 games ago against bottom of the league Dundee.
6 games! It’s a shocking indictment of the manager and his team and if Celtic were on a similar run the media would be sharpening their knives and gunning for the manager and players.
There’s every chance now that the erse will fall out of his squad and a 20 points plus gap will result before season end.
Of course with young Hastie and Greg Stewart already lined up as marquis signings for next season then the Ibrox clubs fans can sleep easy.
Picking up Bosmans from teams below them in the SPFL ain’t going to stop the march to 9 IAR.
This season, with Celtic’s poor efforts in the transfer market, injury after injury to key players, and Rodgers jumping ship, was their best chance to unseat the Champions.
They have failed miserably and one win over Celtic and beating the Dons and Killie to 2nd place is no more than could be expected given the resources gifted to Gerrard.
With 9 IAR now the next target and the implications of that for the Ibrox board and management staring them in the face what has Kingco left to pull from the hat?
A treble treble will wind up the heat throughout the close season and anything less than a stellar start in the new season will see the pressure ramp up on Gerrard and the board.
Second place isn’t yet a certainty. After this weekend the only games they have left are against all the teams that have given them problems this season.
With the amount of CCTV in the City Centre those respobsible for the knife attacks on Celtic fans must be easily identifiable.
I’m surprised that pictures of those that the police want to talk to haven’t been splashed all over the media by now.
Who takes a weapon to a football match without the intention to use it?
Is it the same group who attacked and stabbed the Osijek fans but were never identified?
Phil, we know the numbers stack up in Celtic’s favour. Getting out of sharing sponsorship deals with Rangers has proved to be a God send.
Going our own way has proved highly profitable while Ibrox sponsors must be sick of court case after court case and the consequent association with their product and name.
In a couple of weeks time we will discover what Sports Direct are looking for. It won’t be pennies.
Add that to the Close Brothers loan and a big chunk of the ST money will be gone.
Alfredo is now a target for his club’s own fans and whatever valuation was being mooted previously will have taken another significant hit following his reaction to Broony’s wind up.
They will be hoping he can overcome his latest injury to get enough game time to match up to the hype
He still won’t overcome his disciplinary record that potential buyers will also be paying attention to. HH
I think he was referring to Barisic.
But, but, but… he had one red card rescinded, so his record is not as bad as it seems! 😆
Timcat,I think PC was referring to Barasic,mo chara HH
Doh!!!! LOL. HH
Knowing sevco, that will become a major selling point!..
Don’t forget, they had Joe Garner taking up space in an NHS hospital, so I’d imagine the sales spiel will go something like this:
“International (well, he’s a foreigner!) Player for sale. Has a good CV (full Citroën logbook available, showing full service history), and comes complete with own NHS Air Miles card, with enough miles to allow for upgrades to medical treatment (basically means he qualifies for clean bandages). Selling price of only $25 squillion-dillion Dembelé dollars, payable in 6 easy instalments – a down-payment of only $25 squillion-dillion Dembelé dollars, and 5 monthly payments of only $0.
Sevco are so skint that, if Ross Hall was a football player, they couldn’t afford him either! 😂
