Naïve Steve and the Gerrard Experiment

I have just watched the Sevco presser where Steven Gerrard was introduced as their newest managerial victim.

No questions at all about budgets were answered with any degree of precision.

I called a colleague immediately afterwards and the world he used to describe the ex-Liverpool player was “naïve”.

This is a classic King move.

He has doubled down and it is a massive gamble.

However, it all comes back to money.

When the South African based convicted criminal was asked about how the Gerrard regime would be funded he blithely mentioned a “rights issue”.

Well, I’m sure that the chaps at the Takeover Panel will be interested to hear that!

Once more, Mr King can say just about anything at a presser in Glasgow without any risk of having his answers questioned.

I think that it is fair to say that not everyone within the Sevco High Command is on board with the Gerrard Experiment.

Mr King, after all, has previous for making grand gestures that have to be paid for with OPM.

If there is an intrepid member of the Stenography Corps out there who wishes to try this journalism lark then here is a tip:

Go an interview Mr Paul Murray.

However, a word of warning for them.

Doing so could jeopardise your place on the Ibrox press box.

  1. Murray has sold land in Edinburgh for 1 billion. He is to buy out King etc and Souness will join the board. Players worldwide expected to form an orderly queue for employment.
    Quite extraordinary!

  2. I’m just wondering when we actually went off the footballing map? Was it when Scotland lost the independence vote or when a rather shady, establishment football club died? Maybe it was when a certain useless manager went on gardening leave?

Alas it’s just now good to know we were off the map, now back on, and Steven Gerrard that is the arbiter of this important map.

  3. So it begins, King claims the squad Stevie G has is as bad as everyone thinks, and that it was the best team in Scotland after the winter break.

Now Stevie G, you are the new kid on the block, so let me translate that for you. The monies that you’ve been promised or think you are getting has now been reconsidered, until the season ticket monies come in. Welcome to the world of David King, your new boss.

  4. King fluffing when asked about resources to back up Gerrard. He intimated that Stevie G’s plans will be funded by a Rights issue… So, I presume that it will need to happen in the next 3 weeks or so, in order for the funds to be available for this transfer window. I’m sure the Take Over Panel will be delighted to see Dave comply. It also occurred to me that Dave might not be being entirely truthful.

  5. Thinking about this “rights issue”. How can it happen ? Takeover Panel are still there, 2 directors jumped before sanctions start to bite, that suggests King is staying surely ?
Even if you ring fence all that, which institution would actually underwrite it all ?
    Monday should be fun.

  6. Didn’t hear all of King’s drivel.
Did he really mention a forthcoming rights issue?
I hope COS and TOP have him in their sights.
Stellar manager announced, fresh investors to be revealed on Monday, but Murray and Scott jump ship prior to the good news that the Real Rangers are back.
Did anyone bring it up at the presser yesterday or was Level 5’s crib sheet confined to Stevie/Dave, why are you so good?
One by product of Gerrard at Ibrox will be more coverage of the game in Scotland in the UK national press.
Level 5 won’t be leading those guys by the nose as they do with the Scottish media.

    • Stevie G has just made the biggest mistake of his entire life.

They talk about spending money again. Maybe, just maybe they could pay all the 276 shafted they left being in 2012.

WHAT ON EARTH HAVE YOU DONE STEVIE G

  7. Do Nicholl and Johansson walk at the end of their 3 match stint?
Out with the old, in with the new.
    More pay off money required.
I wonder if King will mention his wee TOP/COS issue at his Monday presser?
Of course whilst Stevie G is grabbing all the headlines what are that bunch of incompetents at the SFA up to?
7 months and counting and not a peep from the Compliance Officer. They talk of transparency then treat the fans with impunity as if they don’t matter.
What about Alistair Johnston’s F&P status?
If as Chairman of Rangers he signed off on a UEFA licence application which we all know was fraudulent then why has he not been banned for life from Scottish football?
Furthermore the Compliance Officer should be passing his findings to Police Scotland Fraud Squad and they can round up the perpetrators of the fraud and those involved in the subsequent cover up.
    You know who you are.

    • Joseph,
The guy who sent e-mails to the SFA received an answer, stating that the report would only be published if disciplinary action was taken against any individual.
Take a guess what you think the will be.

  8. I hope that King was personally given the “important looking” missives hand delivered the day before!
Given the sum involved in regards to the TOP, should he not have his movement restricted to that of within the UK until he gives binding and legal commitments to the authorities and that the authorities find acceptable?

  9. The clock in now ticking for SG and is management team. The world cup will begin in the summer, and this impacts on pre-season preperation,so experienced managers would use all available time to prepare for the coming season.First mistake SG,the season end games would allow this assessment period.Round one to BR who is already working on next season.
One small problem is money, which may be promised, but has failed to appear in accounts to date, unless your profile can generate this money.
Great managers are not made overnight, and years of studying by young managers sometime produces results. The Spurs exit from Europe proved this,as their managers was conned into keeping the game open, when at 1-0 he should have shut up shop.
Top managers are always learning,so unless Liverpool have failed to spot your genius you are chasing moonbeams.
Sorry SG but you don’t appear to be the brightest star in the sky,and you are about to enter the world of mind games, played by experienced people.
Who knows, you may turn out to be a genius, but you have already lost round two,as David boy could not convince anybody with half a brain cell.

  10. Gerrards ego appears to be bigger than his brain.
Rather than work up through the ranks at MK Dons etc and get on the job experience he’s signed on at a basket case of a club, with a dysfunctional board, a crap playing squad and supporters low on patience with a hatred of RC’s.
Had to laugh when a reporter questioned King about Gerrards lack of experience.
His Glibness opined that his inexperience might be a good thing…..really Dave, really.
4 year deal it is then. Did anyone ask him when he’s moving his wife and family from Southport to Glasgow?

  11. Phil is there a Law in the Land for Sevco and King David and another one for the rest of us . Maybe thats me being too niave. But if we say go into a Supermarket walk around with a load of stuff then have to go to a checkout and pay for same actually with a thing called money. Do the likes of King David and his ilk not have to do so or do they possess a kind of Bitcoin Visa Card where the payments of said purchases do not come back through to them so as they do not have to Honour Payment. Its just that am a pensioner now and as the Tesco Advert says Every Little Helps and if King David has one of these Magic Cards should they not be available to the rest of Society. Other than that explanation the only way I see this Mob operating is on the Biggest Ponzi Scheme since The Bernie Madoff affair he ended up getting 150 years and he had more principles than all of this lot put together.

Just a thought but….You have a nuj card……….could you not try being a journalist and interview Mr Murray….just a thought like.

  13. You are so wrong Phil that I’m almost embarrassed for you. Steven Gerrard would not have signed uo if he hadn’t been given guarantees about the funding available for transfers. This money has always been available but we haven’t had a manager we would trust to spend it. The squad is already pretty strong or teams from China and Red Bull Leipzig wouldn’t have tried to poach our players. Plus Steven Gerrard will have the pick of the Liverpool youth squad and I think the connection with Liverpool will be a major strength. I have also heard that there is about to be a major announcement of new investment. This is clearly indicated by Paul Murray and the other one stepping down from the board to make way for it. If the investment is as big as I expect, we might even see other directors stepping down. King won the court case. It was never about whether or not he would make the offer (which nobody will accept by the way) but about whether the offer could be made by one of the companies he has an interest in. The court found in his favour. But even so this only affects the company and not the club. The recent accounts showed we are in a strong position financially and almost turning a profit. The only people who say otherwise are the mhedia who are always just looking for an angle or a story. They cannot bear to think that we might be back where we belong and stop the NIAR. Really excited right now.

  14. A four year contract, four month contract, any contract, is only of any relevance if BOTH parties to the contract are there to honour it. If one party, ie in this particular case sevco, are no longer in existence, Stevie boy can join the long line of the stiffed. I really think that the Lying King has thought that part through. His ONLY interest, I have said from day one, was to somehow try and get back the £20m he invested in/was conned out of by the dead club. Anyone else involved in any way is acceptable collateral damage should anything go wrong.

Looking forward to it. Going to be some laugh after all the bravado is over and they have to actually play the game.

Him taking this job appears to be ignorance and arrogance on a grand scale. I probably do more due diligence buying a telly.

  16. It’s all well and good saying that the answer to your funding problems are a “rights issue”. The only teenage wee problem is that you need to find mugs who will buy those shares.

Also, even if you do find enough mugs to buy shares in a bottomless pit of a business, the share monies go to RIFC and there is no guarantee that TRFC (the club) ever see all or part of that money.

Still the best laugh and comedy show in town. It has just taken another bizarre twist in the plot but it will still end up as a great laugh.

Now I know “the Glib and Shameless One” has more moves than Fred Astaire (showing my age here) but the Stevie G move is superb. The MSSM are salivating about this, they even have players he will sign. This appointment brings more exposure to Scottish football they cry. I certainly hope so.
Now Scottish Football (SFA/SPFL) and the MSSM will be under the scrutiny of the English Media who will not entertain the Level 5 “Puff Pieces” that are lapped up in such a sycophantic way. Now they will be exposed to Administration; Liquidation; Sevco; EBT Cheating; Illegally Registered Players; Illegally awarded UEFA Licenses; Court Cases; TOP Rulings; Directors Resigning; No Money etc. etc.

I love it so I do. Bring it on. HH

  23. I hope StevieG has his lawyers all over this summer agreement. King has to find a way to bank 11 million in an escrow account to avoid the cold shoulder while also placating the club’s debtors and wringing more cash for the previously mortgaged Ibrox faithful.
To say it does not add up is the least of it. The difficulty is that the footballing authorities are mere onlookers and the cold shoulder is yet to be applied. What is the odds that StevieG ever sits in the dugout for an SPL game?

“There are several advantages to this structure(Incorporation). Because the club is a distinct legal entity, it is easier for the club to enter into contractual arrangements e.g. to borrow money, own buildings, or stage very large events. The club itself, rather than the individual members, are responsible for the club’s obligations and debts (unless one of the officers has acted negligently or fraudulently, in which case the individual remains personally liable). And the individual members can only be held responsible for the debts and obligations of the club up to the nominal value of their guarantee.”

Where is the money coming from to fund any success that the learner Gerrard will have at the bigotdome? They even have the ovens pawned for God’s sake never mind having pay offs to ex managers and at least 20 footballing duds to support. The mind boggles indeed as to why Gerrard felt it in his stomach and he will feel it everywhere if he doesn’t provide them with immediate success. He could buy and sell that shower of dafties but he probably isn’t as good a salesman as Mr David Cunningham King. Good luck Stevie, you’ll need it. HH

  26. I still don’t understand Gerrard taking up this position? Season ticket funds from next season are already spoken for, loan players return to their parent club at the end of this season , Pena returns to ibrox, King and his court case still to resolve , loans to be paid. They finish 4th in the league which may avoid European embarrassment.
This on the face of it is great PR at a time when they are as low as they have ever been . It’s papered over the ever widening cracks of an outfit on its knees .
Unless £30 million plus becomes available and signings appear then Gerrard will be back at Anfield before Christmas.

There’s two outcomes here – the first is that he puts in a respectable turn as Rangers manager, and he’s got his career set up in fine style. The second is that he turns out to be gash – and if so, Rangers will inevitably ditch him when the mutterings of the loyal fans get too much to bear, and pay off the rest of his lengthy contract. It’s a win-win for Gerrard.
