The resignation of Mr John Gilligan

It was with great sadness that I learned of the departure of Mr John Gilligan from the board of Rangers International Football Club.

My information is that he had not attended the previous four meetings of the Sevco High Command.

Then he appeared without any warning and told the Serious Professional that he was done with it.

Folk who witnessed the event stated afterward that they were surprised at just how candid Mr Gilligan was apropos his reasons for leaving.

I think it is fair to say that he had grown tired of constantly expecting investment from south of the Limpopo.

Of course, the much-promised millions never arrived.

Moreover, it must be soul destroying to never see anything completed, despite your best efforts.

Whatever can be said about Mr Gilligan he certainly doesn’t see himself as a patsy for anyone.

He handed over his letter of resignation, signed some corporate forms and then left the building.

When this happened the Sevco High Command couldn’t get Mr King on the line.

Strange that…

Apparently, the only remaining King loyalist on the board WAS able to get in touch with their esteemed chairman.

With the departure of Mr Gilligan there is now a majority for the anti-King faction in the Blue Room.

However, what happens next depends on whether or not the South African based entrepreneur decides to stay on the board of RIFC.

It is now possible that we are witnessing the unraveling of the Off Licence Putsch.

The resignation of Mr Gilligan is a significant development and I believe it is directly related to the storm clouds currently gathering over Ibrox.

That is a weather system that has been sent there by the Take Over Panel.

To pretend otherwise is to be in denial.

Nota bene.

Yes, I said I was taking a break and I will.

I’m in departures at Dublin airport.

No postings planned from Lisboa, but keep an eye out for me on Twitter.

Boa tarde.

  1. Hello Phil
    Hope you enjoyed Portugal
I’m so angry with opposing players trying to break KT legs. With so called referees not protecting talented youngsters ..
How about you starting a forum asking Celtic to withhold Celtic players from playing for the Scotland team until Celtic receive assurances from SFA referees stop turning a blind eye to this thuggery
If you did these tackles in the street you’d be jailed …

  2. Celtic run out of season 2016/2017 shirts – due to high demand!

Meanwhile in govan – pile of unsold shirts grows – as does its bill.

    developing story?

  3. I believe that Gilligan and the three bears saw themselves in the Brian Dempsey role basically holding the proverbial door open for King to walk through as their version of the bunnet.
However the only thing these guys have been left holding is the bag as the GASL has steadfastly refused to part with any of his own money.

  4. So, Richard Gough reckons that things at Ranger (as he calls them) are certainly better now than they were two or three years ago.

I guess he’s referring that that really bad period when Lambias and Leach were at the helm and the club was around three months from break even with a genuine billionaire with “wealth off the radar” actively involved who had given them a loan of £5 million pounds with another £5 million available for the club to draw down as and when it was required.

Things were certainly bleak back then. Thank goodness, and of course Mr David King, there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

  5. Hi Phil
The problem is it looks like Mr Gillian thought it was a Utopian future he was sigining up for, only to find out that the new horizon is actually Dystopian in nature. Pity their following don’t agree and can’t see the reality. All this despite being informed by your good self on the true nature of the situation they find themselves in.

  6. But he steps down “knowing that much of what was required post regime change has already been achieved” – Mr King says so therefore it must be true!

  7. Enjoy Lisbon, Phil!
Was there a month ago, and already there was a constant stream of Celts fans having a wee visit (pilgrimage?) to the the Estadio Nationale.
The security and ground staff are glad to let you do your thing (within reason – ha ha)! !!

About Gilligan and the RIFC board…
Does he need to be replaced?
Or can the board limp on with the ever-absent King and Murray (the perfectly combed one)?

Also Phil, some counseling – should I care ?!?
