Six in a row and a problematic share offer

Today Celtic cruised to six in a row at Tynecastle.

On a freshly laid playing surface, they dispensed with the formality of a centre-forward.

It is my contention that the position of the Parkhead club in Scotland is unassailable for the foreseeable future.

In both footballing and financial terms, Celtic are on another level, if not On The Level.

However, spare a thought then for the less fortunate.

Word reaches me of a chap south of the Limpopo who is, apparently, “frantic” to raise the necessary funds for an imposed share offer.

My information is that, so far, Mr King has had no luck in the Square Mile.

He has been unable to access any funding or a financial adviser who will take him on.

Apparently, the people that he needs to put together a share offer have not been willing to take his word on things.

They want proof of funds, and his personal assurance isn’t enough.

Well, colour me saddened.

You will have no doubt noted that when I was down the manuscript mines, Mr Stewart Robertson stated that the ruling of the Take Over panel was something that was “for Dave personally”.

Around the same time, this was being said another member of the Sevco High Command was reaching out, through a trusted back channel, to General Ashley.

One of the worrying things for the rebel faction in the Blue Room is that Mr King is not engaging with them on this matter.

I’m told that there was a rather tetchy exchange within the Sevco High Command on Friday.

Apparently, one chap who wears multiple-hats within the Ibrox basket of organisations was called out on this matter.

I’m sure it will all be sorted out with great dignity.

However, it is with this in mind, dear reader, that I would counsel some scepticism about any public statements about the board of the Sevco High Command being all brotherly and united.

I’m told that the Financial Conduct Authority could become central to this saga in the coming months.

Meanwhile, across the city of Glasgow, the story is one of smooth success.

Enjoy…

  1. “Unassailable for the foreseeable future”.

Everyone’s eyesight is different, Phil. Do you have, to use an old expression, 2020 vision, by any chance?

  2. You know the game’s up when the Scottish media attempt to sell not only Celtic’s best players but also the manager.
That’s how they perceive the only opportunity to close the gap. As sure as hell Pedro won’t have the funds to add quality at Ibrox. Getting rid of the likes of Crooks and Rossiter, with 3 years left on their £10k per week contracts will in itself be an expensive exercise.
If 16% of the shareholders take up King’s offer then £4/5 million will evaporate from the warchest, probably leaving it empty.
Across the city Celtic await £5m plus as Southampton sell on Virgil….compare and contrast.

Of course if the players, or manager, decide to stay put then that shows a lack of ambition on their part.
Quickly followed the week after a top player has departed with an article decrying our top team for being unable to hold on to our best players,

    • Yep. Wee McCann couldn’t hide his disdain when John Collins gave his opinion on Celtic. All he could say the biggest threat to Celtic getting 10 in a row would be Brendanbhoy going to another club. He is hurting. As is the rest who will be looking for negative press for Celtic whilst doing the opposite for the pretendys. Build them up and give them hope. Season tickets monies essential. The glib one in a quandary and the ruling from the supreme Court imminent. An interesting summer ahead. Ibrox supporters still in denial. There is no hope for them. Gullible as fuck as we say in Glasgow.

  3. “Frantic” doesn’t sound good at all…
I thought Mr King recently stated that he was considering appealing the requirement to make an offer for shares? Despite all his opportunities to appeal having apparently been exhausted… Perhaps he has had a change of mind?

Meanwhile (and if I may), here is a little piece celebrating Celtic’s league title and challenging those who might be tempted to denigrate it…

    • Was I the only one to slump in disappointment when reading your 1 April article? I smelt the hand of a letter advising you to “cease and desist” and felt that you had decided enough was enough.

      Phew!

The penguin has settled in at home….
