Could an Ibrox legend be soon walking up the famous marble staircase again this time to assist the new owner and the rookie manager?

My sources tell me that Gordon Smith will shortly return to the Ibrox club. The ex-Chief Executive of the SFA could soon be a permanent fixture in the Rangers boardroom.

For the record despite having a very amiable and fairly lengthy chat with Gordon in the media centre at the Aviva stadium in Dublin last month he never suggested to me that re-joining his old club was in the offing.

One can only guess at the huge morale boost this will be for the club’s inexperienced manager.
