The Arab spring will usher in an Islamist winter.

Two French citizens, two Canadians and a Dutch national were among those killed yesterday in a bomb attack in Marrakesh, Morocco. They are the most recent casualties in an epochal war that few in the West seem to want to face up to.

The uprisings currently on-going in several key Middle Eastern countries may prove to be pivotal developments in how the rest of this century plays out.

Islamist inspired rebellions have, so far, toppled Hosni Mubarak and are also underway in Yemen, Syria and Libya. These civil wars should be considered as very serious events, threatening the stability of the region and the peace of the world.

However you will not see that analysis on your TV screens and you will not read it in your newspapers.

Lazy journalists from Western news agencies and TV stations talk gushingly about “the Arab spring.”

What we are witnessing are secular regimes that were a brake against Islamism in their countries being toppled one by one like Cold War dominoes.

This does not mean that the Mubarak regime in Egypt was “nice”. Nor does it mean that the ruling lot in Syria aren’t odious and cruel.

I wouldn’t have done business with Gadhafi, but the major powers in the West have been falling over themselves to cosy up to him after Tony Blair’s notorious “deal in the desert”.

Now NATO warplanes are, in effect, providing close air support to chaps that they would be bombing in Afghanistan.

When western camera crews land in places like Benghazi, Cairo or Damascus they find what they were hoping to find. They seek out an English speaking local that will tell them what they want to hear. That is not to say that the young westernised secularist that speaks eloquently to the Chanel 4 news chaps about democracy and modernity is not sincere. However he or she is a useful idiot that will soon be disposed of in a Sharia ordered night of the long scimitars. If the nice person speaking to the camera is a “she” then that realisation will come about rather quickly I fear.

Western journalists never venture inside a mosque to speak with the determined ones. Armed with Messianic zeal and a Bolshevist discipline. Movements like the Moslem Brotherhood in Egypt have waited for this time since the days of king Farouk. They can wait a little longer. They are nearly there and soon they will impose their grim view of the human condition on everyone. There will be no choice.

Meanwhile Western journalists have a Pollyanna view that some  secular Dubček of Arabia will ride into view at an oasis near you soon.

This frothy tosh about an Arab Spring is dangerous nonsense when any evidence based journalism  in the West  should be considering the global implications for the impending Islamist Winter.
