Alistair Johnston fights to save Rangers.

An excellent source today informed me that the power brokers at the club now view  chairman Alistair Johnston as being dangerously off message.

The North American based businessman is doing all he can to block the purchase of the club by Craig Whyte.

The bank is happy for the deal to go through and they are confident that Whyte has secured the borrowing to meet Lloyd’s asking price.

This would also allow Murray to be shot of this turbulent company.

The thing is Johnston DOES care about Rangers.

Moreover he fears that Whyte will probably be unable to bankroll the club in a fashion that supporters have become accustomed to over the years.

Whyte also seems to be labouring under the illusion that the tax bill, should it ever crystallise, will be paid by Sir David Murray.

This is contrary to all of the professional advice that Whyte has received.

So what happens if Whyte buys Rangers?

Good news for the bank as they get their money.

It is also good news for Sir David Murray as he finally rid of the club.

Now do the wise men on the independent committee have a plan “B”?
