Where is St. Patrick when you need him?
There are SO many snakes in this place that need driving out!In fact I’ll drive them to the airport myself if our patron saint is too busy enjoying the view from his mountain in Mayo.
The official Patrick’s day events in Dublin will see a major push to lift the IMF imposed gloom on the country.
Of course, it is a day for Irish exiles.
A day for people who could not carve out a liveable life on this island and had to leave.
People like my late father.
That was in the 1950s.
I had hoped such days were in the past.
With the mess wrought on this economy by our political class it now means that we are, once more, rearing children for export.
The new exiles will create the next “Second Generation”.
People like me.
This St. Patrick’s Day is meant to be about chasing away the gloom.
Sorry I can’t take part.
So the best of the day to you all you wherever you are, but from my glen in Donegal all I see before us is another wasted generation like the one that produced me.
As I look out on the Atlantic I know that the next parish is America, but our youngest and our best now have to go even further.
Are we cursed?
