Punishment meetings

The day after the collapse in Austria, I was told of a tense exchange in the immediate aftermath of the game against Lasc.

With King Dermot presiding, he heard the conflicting versions of who was to blame for yet another Eurocrash.

I’m told that before the discussion got fully underway, one person was instructed to leave the room, but only on an interim basis, you understand.

The conclave finished with the Boss saying that there would be a proper sit-down during the upcoming international break.

There, according to the billionaire, it would all be “thrashed out”.

Of course, since that fiat was issued, Celtic have lost two derby matches and started their Europa League campaign with a home defeat to Ferencváros.

As they say in the boardroom world:

Suboptimal.

Yesterday I learned from a very well-placed source that the meeting will finally happen this weekend.

If recruitment during the summer transfer window isn’t the first item on the agenda, then there isn’t much point to the entire event.

Moreover, if the scrutiny is suitably forensic, then it should focus on whether deals were concluded timeously, or whether they got over the line at all.

Consequently, I cannot imagine that the roles played by the nondynamic duo will not be examined.

In other companies within the Desmond imperium, this level of failure usually ends careers.
