We need to talk about Kevin

Spare a thought for poor Kev Thelwell.

He is, after all, only following orders.

In a quick chat today with an excellent source on HMS Sevco, I was told that the Delaware Crew gave the ex-Everton chap clear instructions.

When he was tasked with finding a replacement for the Enlightened One, the FNG had to tick TWO boxes:

Firstly, ensure he is acceptable to the supporters.

Secondly, agree to work within the current financial parameters.

Mr Gerrard clearly ticked the first one.

However, my understanding is that the dignified conclave in London fell apart when the financial details were explored.

I now believe that Hector would expect around £8m from Mr Gerrard if he comes back to the UK at the moment.

That’s a seven-figure sum, Stevie, just clarifying…

I’m told that Kev identified FOUR possible candidates to replace the Enlightened One.

Ideally, the replacement for the vanquished vegan would be out of work as compensation impacts on pre-agreed budgets.

Consequently, that is an issue with young Master Muscat.

A big plus is that the other Kevin did learn at the feet of a master.

The Delaware Crew ARE impressed with how the young German stabilised a bin fire at Sheffield Wednesday.

In terms of succession planning, he would be in the corporate building, so to speak, should he be needed to be the FNG at Elland Road at some point in the future.

So, Sevco would be a feeder club for managers, not just players.

For the avoidance of doubt, none of this is Kevin’s fault.

He’s only following orders.
