Pain management

It was all too beautifully scripted as a Sevco psychodrama.

First, of course, was the hubris, then the painful reality with the unmistakable sight of the Dunkirk Spirit after TWENTY MINUTES of play.

This quintessentially British broadcasting covered all the hilarious phases of the Ibrox shitshow.

Warning: the F Word is used.

The bad F Word, worse than feck.

You know the one I mean…

As ever, Paddy Power was waiting to pounce on X.

The post-match post-mortem offered up a smorgasbord of Sevco suffering on YouTube.

Some of it is utterly glorious.

It is very clear that young master Martin didn’t have many admirers in the Ibrox klanbase even before the match against Club Brugge last night.

Indeed, many in Sevco’s customer base had already checked out of Project Russell after the two drawn games in the SPFL.

Moreover, losing two goals to Alloa didn’t help either.

When it went three-nil last night, this appeared on a quintessentially British message board.

Now, the situation is more easily discernible if we follow follow the money.

The amount of payoffs to managers at the basket of assets over the years has been substantial.

Mr Giovanni wasn’t cheap to sack, nor was Dear Philippe.

My understanding, though, is that Mickey B was as cheap as chips when it came time to give him the heave.

So, a few days ago, a very well-placed source on Planet Ibrox told me that the Stateside owners were very clear to their CEO that if young Master Martin was to be relieved of his duties, then any severance package would come out of existing budgets.

The same source informed me that Champions League Group Stage participation would generate funds for Russell to get TWO new signings, not loan deals.

However, the Europa League would see him reduced to finding more loan deals if anything.

As I have already reported, it is highly likely that the new owners already consider it job done as far as European progress is concerned this season.

Russell has got  Sevco to the Europa group stages regardless of the denouement in Belgium next week.

The only positive in any of this for the Ibrox klanbase is that across the city, there are substantial cash reserves that appear doomed to their eternal rest in Celtic’s bank account.

It takes being risk-averse to new baffling levels.

Of course, that will not deter Russell from piling on the pain, though.

Apparently, it’s all part of the process.

Dear reader, consider the featured image.

It is always good advice to keep the receipts.

  1. Judging by our poor, lacklustre performance tonight, not only have we kept Mr Martin on post, we’ve also cost ourselves at least £15 million when we drop down to Europa League.
Rangers were defensively poor the previous night but our defence looked like an accident waiting to happen all night

  2. Has anyone tried sevco Pâté? It’s parfait for european occasions, full of chickens and a fortified wine, great with crackers if you have overdone the jelly, ice cream and popcorn.

  3. The Rangers fans clearly found solace in the words of the great Jock Stein ……….

“There’s always a time to go”

Never a truer word was spoken

With any luck the bean counting directors at Celtic might come across it.

  4. I’ve been living in Belgium for almost two decades and take a passing interest in the “local” game here . I wouldn’t write them off yet as Brugge are not as good as that 20 minute scoreline would suggest . In saying that I wouldn’t put money on themuns turning this around either. One thing the American Ashley’s may not have accounted for is their tendency to do “walking away” when disgruntled and the impact that will have on match day income. Under Ashley crowds went sub 20k , of course it’s not just match day income that is affected it’s also merchandise . It won’t be long before we’re in the can’t afford to sack him can’t afford to keep him scene and who would want to pick up this poison chalice then ?
