Two hundred per cent Clement

They say that pride comes before a fall.

However, I doubt that Philippe was displaying any hubris last night when he claimed to have the board’s backing.

Why?

Well, follow follow the money.

Regular readers will already know that I have reported on the severance package connected to Clement’s new contact.

My information, from a very well-placed source, is that the cost of dispensing with his hilarious services is similar to that of Mr Giovanni.

How does the equivalent of two and a half years’ salary grab you?

So, is the baffling Belgian simply too expensive to sack?

This question is unlikely to be posed by any of the succulents in the Stenography Corps.

Their primary role is to be hope dealers for the Ibrox klanbase.

Until they start to act as journalists, the awkward silence on Sevco’s finances will continue.

That is why the Fitba Fifth Estate has grown in importance.

Here on ACSOM today, Alan Morrison of the Huddle Breakdown once again lays it all out with calm forensic precision.

Celtic has an annual financial advantage over the Ibrox franchise, which has a year-on-year effect.

The default setting in the SPFL is that the club, which was formed by immigrants to feed the hungry in the face of anti-Irish racism and social exclusion, is now the Bayern Munich of Scotland.

I was a thirtysomething when Brian Dempsey told myself and the rest of the crew waiting at the front door that the rebels had won.

Now, as I enter the winter of my life, I’m one hundred per cent sure that there is now a generational hegemony for the Hoops as long as we don’t behave like Rangers (1972-2012) or Sevco.

  1. Seeing as no one else has said it, I’m going to have to do it. “Hegemony” love the word choice Phil. Occasionally you make me have to search for the definition of a word, and this was one of those occasions. Big fan! 🙂

  2. It’s been a while since before the league was won so early.
Current form would indicate an even bigger margin by season end.

  3. So the Glasgow derby is now Bayern Munich vs Espanyol!

Munich’s dominance means that they can take players from every other team in Germany. How long until Celtic make bids that cannot be refused for a star player at Ibrox?

  4. According to the blue waffle, Patrick will be informing us all regarding the rangers finances in a day or two. That should be interesting 🤔

  5. Fantastic work as ever Phil. Do you have any info or ideas as to what prompted the contract renewal, or what terms were in it? It seemed bizarre at the time, I couldn’t see what Rangers stood to gain from it at the start of his first full season.

    • They hoped he could win league cup, and get headhunted by some team who would pay compensation, like with Gerard, follow the money. Contract extension just raised compo stakes…. Loosing cup unexpected… away form unexpected….

    • I think they assumed the Belgian FA were interested in Clement taking over the National Team job and so therefore offered him a new deal that would have meant a much bigger payoff to Rangers had he accepted that supposed approach.
A bit like the reported £9m Celtic received for Brendan.
At that point they had thought they had signed the new Mourinho and took a punt on it.

    • They were hoping he would perform well for a few months then someone would come in for him, who know maybe they heard a few whispers that their was a few clubs looking at him and they thought they could cash in!

  6. Speaking as a Dundee supporter I think that Tony Doc’s jacket is on a shortly nail after failing to beat a team with such a poor away record!

  7. I was recently texted by my 18 year old nephew who informed me that one of his pals had told him to google the term Blue Whaffle on images and to his suprise an image of Clement appeared at the top of his search.
That’s aside Phil is there truth to the rumour that the Ibrox Club are still paying the previous Manager off in increment’s and that this could also be adding further to the financial pressure of any proposed sacking of Clement?

  8. It’s clear as day they can’t afford to sack the Belgian waffler & if they somehow did what self respecting manager is going to come in with no money for transfers only an out of work idiot with no self respect that’ll take any job going!
