Tis the season for Espanyol optimism?

I’m told that their unexpected victory over Malmo in Sweden had Sevco’s Churchillian chairman relishing the prospect of the next Glasgow Derby.

Actually, I find that rather sweet.

He’s had other reasons to be cheerful, not least Glasgow City Council’s granting Sevco’s request to allow members of the public into the Copland Upper.

I’m sure that all the necessary safety requirements were found to be copacetic by the local authority.

The entire excrement exhibition proves the importance of messaging from the Blue Room to the Ibrox klanbase.

With that in mind, I’m told that the new chairman of the basket of assets had to have several takes at his recent media outing.

No shame in that, of course.

However, I’m told that some of the scripted responses had to be changed somewhat to allow his Churchillian eloquence to have its full effect.

As always, the local media was at its most obedient.

In a rare occurrence, the reportage from the Stenography Corps apropos current Blue Room manoeuvres is entirely accurate.

The Sevco High Comamnd are as one is opposing the moves by the brogue trader in Johannesburg.

Indeed, given what befell the last person to hold that esteemed position, it would be churlish not to wish Mr Gilligan the very best of British!

I suspect he will need it, especially in 2025, if he’s still in the post.

It’s worth noting that the fee for victory in Sweden is a fraction of what Celtic earned by triumphing over ŠK Slovan Bratislava.

The financial gulf between both Glasgow clubs is vast and growing on all fronts.

Moreover, that is an inconvenient truth that the local media would rather not focus on.

  1. To allay some of the costs of capacity expansion,, I know that a big orange crane, hardly used , will be coming available fairly soon. A new coat of vibrant green paint and hey presto it becomes a big Timmy crane. Solved!

      • Whether Fergus had timing on his side should that really be relevant to the cost of building a new stadium to an upgrade now and depending where you source the materials ? That seems like a bit of estimating costs that the distinguished brown brogue wearers would do

  2. Imho it would be perfectly affordable for Celtic to redevelop the ageing main stand up to 70,000 stadium capacity plans are already drawn up for this. Club’s Credit Rating, increased season tickets/merchandising contracts/
Champions League revenues it’s a no brainer.

  3. Espanyolification is complete once we dwarf every footballing metric over Sevco which is nearly complete such as turnover, profit, player trading, STH’s etc. The final nail in the coffin is The Nou Camp of Celtic Park when we develop CP to 80k & they become a complete irrelevance to us! 🇮🇪

      • It’s a pity because that is next logical step along with hotel on the property too. Cost is a factor, but additional 20,000 STHs, hospitality etc would cover it in reasonable time, but the main issue would be time as main stand would need to be closed for period of season.

          • Celtic are possibly due a 10yr deal from Adidas next year, Celtic are generating over £30m a year in merchandise… that’s a £350m deal over 10 years, they also have £100m+ in the bank. Cost is no problem BEFORE A SEAT OR HOSPITALITY / EXEC BOXES & RESTAURANTS ARE EVEN FACTORED IN & SOLD.

          • Surely internal investment might be the course to take ie borrow from a lender within who has the capital to fund such a thing.
A legacy like McCanns if you like.
Then of course there is the possibility of another share issue ?

      • We’ve been asking this question for years at the AGM and have always been met with the same answer. Cost is to high, this will increase year on year and unless significant investment is received from say stadium naming rights and increased TV exposure its probably dead in the water.

        • Totally agree Bandito – Brexit, various wars throughout Europe/Middle East etc. etc. have put construction costs at an all time high with little hint of anything coming down in prices (and that includes construction operatives wages rocketing too).
Chinese steel seems to have it’s issues as well😉
As for stadium naming rights, I’m sure Paddy Power would love to put the boot into the team over the river🍀
