Yesterday, Ian Maxwell of the SFA spoke to Holyrood’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee.
Scroll to 10.40 for the start of his evidence.
Trigger warning.
Your jaw might hit the floor.
Mine certainly did.
When questioned about the need for an independent regulator, like the type currently being legislated for at Westminster, Maxwell brushed it away.
He outlined various issues in the English game, including “financial failings” in multiple clubs.
However, he added that “none of these elements are relevant for Scotland”.
Yeah, yeah, he actually said that.
He really did.
Mr Maxwell was clearly on a roll when stated he was convinced there was no need for an independent regulator as the SFA’s “governance is robust” and “fit for purpose”.
Good grief.
Of course, Mr Maxwell benefits from an almost complete lack of journalist scrutiny by the local media in his bailiwick.
I can only imagine that the MSPs on the committee would love to have such an understanding Fourth Estate on their patch.
Hi Phil,
The day has finally arrived. From tomorrow we all walk towards the light not away from it.
Stay happy?
Maxwell is out of his depth. A useless puppet
He repeatedly said it was an education problem and people who know the game rate them about 80% . He clearly thinks fans are too stupid to see what they’re up to. Was waiting on him saying “I blame the schools “.
The mayor of Amity Island springs to mind….
I was thinking more Baghdad Bob…..
Incompetence personified from Ian Maxwell, he should not be the face of the SFA.
He attended this meeting unprepared, he never dealt with several questions at all well and actually believes that his organisation is performing well. Intellectually not up to the mark having to invent words and not able to adequately answer or understand points being made by questioners.
How much has bad governance cost the taxpayer? 40- 50 million of taxpayers finest from litigation from the 1st liquidation? And counting…
Our board will say nothing, they are rotten to the core
That is the worrying part. The less that is challenged by the Celtic board, the more the authorities push the boundaries. VAR manipulation is just the latest.
The entire governance of our game is rotten from the top down . The mantra appears to be as my old boss used to say regularly …’ don’t upset the apple tart !’ It should be ‘ never derail the gravy train !’
It’s apple cart bud
Think the guy knew that
Turkeys never vote for Xmas as we know. The recent negative view of the SPFL and the SFA ? From Rangers makes me wonder why there are no calls for total transparency in Scottish football from them to achieve accountability. Or are they just too selective when choosing their battles. Until other clubs join with Celtic to achieve this nothing will change.
A history lesson which if you read Phil’s column you would be aware of. Despite some Celtic fans opposition the Celtic board were one of big supporters of Sevco. The main opposition to readmitting into Premier League were initially Dundee United and then for other leagues was Turnbull Hutton at Raith Rovers.
Celtic are one of two biggest clubs who dominate Scottish football and only they had power to deal with Rangers properly in 2012. They didn’t because Old Firm meantcash to Celtic board. That is the truth like it or not and at least have honesty to blame your board (Phil does) rather than blaming all the other clubs.
They do! Journalistic scrutiny of the Scottish Government is pathetic. Particularly when compared to Westminster
Tromps that is nonsense and you really must know it.
There is barely one newspaper in Scotland that does not scream SNP bad every day as opposed to the number of newspapers in UK that support Tory government and softball and deflect from criticism.
The SNP get an incredibly easy time from the BBC and STV. Compare that with how the Westminster government are treated by the BBC and Channel 4 for example. Also Scottish newspapers have much smaller circulations than English newspapers which considerably limits their investigative powers. Compare what you might find in the herald or Scotsman with what you might find in the guardian or independent. It’s not even close
Have you not got a telly?
He talks some amount of shite
Tormod or Maxwell? Personally I’d say both!
