An annual opportunity that shouldn’t be wasted

The Celtic AGM  is a sanitised, stage-managed affair with anodyne questions being the order of the day.

That said, there is always the opportunity for an insurgent interrogative from the floor.

Personally, this Celtic shareholder would like to see the Grey Brigade at the top table handle the following on Wednesday:

Referees

Can the Board inform shareholders of the process for seeking clarification on questionable referee/ VAR Decisions, and has it been deployed this season?

Football Earnings Advantage

The recent publication accounts by Rangers International Football Club (RIFC) have shown that they have spent more on player wages than Celtic. Yet our club’s accounts show we have a distinct and significant football earnings advantage within UEFA’s FSR thresholds.

Does Celtic intend to use this permitted football earnings advantage to strengthen the playing squad in January with an eye on retaining the SPFL title and being more competitive in Europe in future?

Even if the answers from the suits are coated in corporate magnolia, getting them on the record in a public forum like the AGM of a listed company is still valid.

As Rugger Guy often reminded me, if, say, a CEO knowingly lies to shareholders in that forum, then it is a straight red.

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m sure that has never happened at any Celtic AGM.

On a related matter, this effort by the Celtic Trust is admirable.

Thousands of emotionally committed shareholders are a valuable part of the McCann legacy.

It is because of the Bunnet that any questions can be asked at all.

Hopefully, someone does.

  1. I would have thought that most football clubs’ boards in wee Scawlin’ Phil , would be well aware of the sharp practices of a certain clumpany from Govan land since it’s inception in 2012 and with the previous entity also . What I’m confused about is why do they accept and tolerate such behaviour as a group of clubs as the sport suffers as a consequence whose reputation disintegrates by the game because of this ? Where is the vocal condemnations by the member clubs ? It’s almost as if they all know that the Rangers is sitting on some cataclysmic file on Scottish football and officialdom that will be made public if there are any critical utterances . Am I wrong …what are the true reasons why one clumpany operate with impunity while the other clubs abide by the game’s protocols ?

    • I’ve believed that for years now, Would likely be a case of mutual destruction with I suspect some either being banned from the game of facing legal consequences. Doubt we’ll find out though.

  2. I used to go but gave up due to the regimented no nonsense manner it was run. Shareholders should be recording any questions discreetly on their mobile phones which may help.

  3. I asked an awkward question at an AGM one year and my microphone 🎤 was switched off. Likely to happen if you hit a nerve.
