Austerity and second place for Sevco

I was saddened to learn that some loyal employees have recently been let go at Ibrox.

Of course, it is essential to control finances tightly.

However, at the stadium Mr Bomber played for, it is also necessary to control the narrative.

Sevco is currently cash-strapped, but it cannot reveal that unpleasant truth to their delightful klanbase.

Therefore, everyone must parrot the same message about their financial situation and the great value brought to the club on a budget.

To that end, one of the usually on-message fan media types had their knuckles wrapped instead of just crunched.

Apparently, they opined that one of Mr Beale’s astute acquisitions might not be up to much after all.

This is definitely against the party line, and they were told that in very trenchant terms.

I’m told that the recent round of austerity has left something of a depleted squad behind the scenes.

Consequently, many of them have found that they have been redeployed as multi-role functionaries within the basket of assets.

There are other straws in the wind at Ibrox that point to the possible existence of an austerity programme.

Lest we forget…

Look, I’m sure that it will all work out well in the end.

Obviously, some unforeseen windfall would be gratefully received and faithfully applied by the Sevcio High Command at this juncture.

Now that Mr Let’s Go is the head man at Al-Ettifaq, I would not be surprised if the permanently tranquil chairman of Sevco is hoping for a Jota-type deal courtesy of their old gaffer.

As ever, we need to follow follow the money.

For the avoidance of doubt, there is no need to do that with the SPFL champions, as they have lots and lots of the stuff.

If you don’t believe me, then listen to Pep Guardiola.

It comes down to money, and that’s why, in this century, Celtic the Glasgow usually wins the league in Fair Caledonia.

In the first decade, the original Rangers had to adopt rather creative tax strategies to match up to the financial muscle of a club with a sixty thousand seater stadium packed to the rafters.

For the day that’s in it, we know how that finally ended.

Every journalist working the Scottish football beat knows it.

It’s that some are in denial and others too cowardly to state the truth that Rangers died in 2012, and the autopsy report came on this day six years ago.

  1. Park leaving was the biggie for me. Too old to deal with the sh!t of day to day firefighting and the lack of opportunity. As long as they complain about Cinch that’s all that matters to him.
The fact that Dave hasn’t jetted in may also be indicative of a lack of opportunities to line his pockets.
Still a couple of rangers players to join slippy at his new club for jillions. Tilman money soon in the bank and Bassey millions to come, they will soon be back in ‘rude’ financial health.
Did Celtic extend the best striker in Scotland’s contract by another couple of years, must have been a minor story.

  2. Hospitality is cut back, multi-tasking needed [permanently?] to cover ‘vacancies’,

…so Beale might not be seeing a Sporting Director anytime soon then?

And as far as copying the Celtic trading model – as expressed by the ex-MD Robertson –

it’s just not happening. Loans are the order of the day, with a couple of cheap buys.

Break even point for RIFC is still miles over the horizon.

As the pre-season progresses, on paper at least, it looks really, really bad for

    sevco – on all fronts.

Beale might be overperforming to secure second place in the SPL.

How would the bears react to a 3rd or 4th place…?

CFC just has to avoid any complacency, and be brutally focused and professional in

everything it does – both on and off the pitch.

And with a bit of luck added, we might secure that CL Group 3rd place?

    • Sevco are so much bigger than the likes of Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts that they should be able to canter into second place in every competition while turning a pretty handsome profit. The fact that they are ruining themselves chasing titles but still coming second must be a source of distress in the Blue Room. Still, they stopped 10 in a row (this time) so maybe they think it is all worth it.
