Inconvenient journalism and gallant allies in Europe

I was saddened to learn today that all is not well in the Blue Room.

Firstly, the Sevco High Command is apparently somewhat irked that their “we have loads of money” narrative has been challenged by some off-message journalist putting out some pesky facts.

Dear reader, I cannot think who that might be.

More pressing is the fact that I am told they haven’t made the folk in Nyon happy about their financial situation.

Indeed, as per the public data, they have added to the Ibrox wage bill.

It was put me by a very well-placed source that the brethren in the Blue Room have two essential choices going into the summer:

  • Re-sign Ryan Kent and possibly Alfred Morelos and go head-to-head with the folks in Nyon.
  • Reach out to UEFA and say something like, “Look, we tried to move players on in the January window, but there were no takers. To make up for that, we have lots of the first-team squad out of contract in the summer. They will go off the wage bill, and their replacements will be on substantially lower wages”.

So I said to my guy, “the first option is suicidal, as UEFA isn’t the SFA, and the second one is a Hail Mary pass”.

Dear reader, he didn’t demur.

The Manchester City situation could be seen as English football sending a message to the UK Government that they don’t need legislation to take action on rogue clubs.

If the Sunak government goes ahead with the Tracey Crouch recommendations, then inaction by Holyrood isn’t a good look.

Of course, only one club on Planet Fitba would baulk at the prospect of such a new dispensation.

  1. I am m=not a Journalist, which makes me feel at home in Scotland, although after todays Report of Mrelos rejecting a MEGA BUCK deal, I went on to Transfermarket to see what these Turkish Giants were splashing out on.

    MEGABUCKS??????????????? INTERESTING

  2. The Goldson situation will be repeated this coming summer, no one else wants either of them so Sevco will say they’ve persuaded the two fan favourites to remain at Diebrox, just as happened to the reserve goalie.

  3. With todays share issue uploaded to companies house, the writing is on the wall again? With another 4.2million shares issued at the end of january and only uploaded today to companies house, that will raise an eyebrow to the UEFA team surely?

in terms of kent and morelos

They could have been signed on a pre contract for free in January but the proof of the matter is no one did, why?

Couple of reasons the wage demands from them, Morelos is what £35k a week plus bonus and Kent £18k a week plus bonus might be to high for any club interested in them. The agents / player would be looking for more as any future club would not have a signing fee to pay to Sevco.

    Or

Maybe Kent and Alfredo just isnt good enough for any other club outside Scotland, perhaps clubs have seen the AJax Bassey situation unfold and noted maybe there players arent cutting the mustard

On a side note, the MSM is pushing lots of stories about celtic / hearts / hibs and Aberdeen on late. You have to step back and ponder why? What are they hiding, its the money issues over in Govan? Is the biscuit tin empty again? Is the soft loan facitity being used and is dried up in terms of money from John Bennett? Have they spent his additional £10m in keeping the lights on per say?

The other issue to look at too, is HMRC have they continued to deffer payments to HMRC in a bid to keep the lights on? SFA cant let Sevco sink again why? Worried they will loose the poor TV money we have here in Scotland. Is this why VAR being heavy handed in terms of Celtic and any game that matters to them all!

  4. The BBC news website has headlined the Man City situation as “Potentially The Biggest Financial Scandal In Premier League History”. In contrast, the SFA reacted to the Rangers financial cheating by slapping them with a paltry fine and told everyone to just move on – “Nothing to see here”.
    Spot the difference!

  5. Just received this from an acquaintance and I suspect he’s not far off the mark.
The Morales, Kent sagas could get interesting in the coming weeks/months. I think there’s a really good chance that they could end up staying. Simply because they both want a move to the EPL and no one down there is interested in them. Being hyped up in the Scottish Hun press counts for fuck all down there, as Goldson found out last year.
More-or-less might get offers from abroad but they won’t be from major clubs.
I can’t see Kent moving out of the UK, and his stats would barely make him an English Championship player.
Unless they’re both prepared to lower their ambitions I can see them signing new contracts in the hope that someone will eventually put an offer in for them. However a wee sticking point there might be wages. Both of them will want more money to stay, but Sevco can’t really afford that, although they might strike a balance, giving them more money against having to buy replacements that they also can’t afford. In fact giving them a bit more cash would mean they could big it up, saying they’d offered the pair of them bumper pay deals to stay that they couldn’t turn down.

  6. As nobody has swooped or jetted in to sign Kent and/or Morelos, The Rangers could re-sign them on significantly reduced wages. They can then go to EUFA and say that they are trying really hard to comply with the new rules.
I am sure the Serious Professional would love this.

  7. Thee will be nothing done regards issues regards the finances at Ibrox as the SFA is nothing like the organisation that runs the premier league .
The premier league is a professional well organised group whist the SFA is not .
The Match officials too within the premier league are far superior than the ones in Scotland too
The Entity playing out of Ibrox would not have the luxury of so many penalties and odd VAR decisions going their way if they played in the premier league .
Their would be no contentious Tav pens to bail them out when the going gets tough .

  8. Whatever happens the SFA, Sevco Football Association and their ‘media’. Will be all out cover and deliberate deflection. In a Gouldson goal keeper way.

  9. Re signing KENT AND FATTY would mean on better terms and conditions? These two want away from the cesspit and a big pay off from who signs them. Trouble is who wants them…

  10. I think Kent and Morelos along with Tavernier are Sevco and losing the former pair would be disastrous for them so I expect some “jiggery pokery” behind the scenes hidden in plain sight of a compliant UEFA. Sevco are not owned by some lowly middle Eastern potentate as Man U are but rather, according to Dave King, gangsters and the staunch so they are hardly likely to take them on.
I will have to get my hat and coat but until Ang negotiates the same level of European teams that Sevco dispensed with and we beat the team from Ibrox at least 4 nil I don’t see how our vastly superior wealth has made much difference. But for a missed penalty they would be A European Trophy winners. God help us.

  11. Just can’t really see the Ibrox club launching any type of “Hail Mary pass” – ever! 🙂

However, a suicidal re-signing of Kent and Morelos is so crazy… that it is believable.

Suppose the Blue Room can then blame UEFA in the summer, for not being able to revamp Gio’s squad?
