Well, Fair Play to UEFA!

I am indebted to a reader for sending me this from the BBC regarding Chelsea and their contractual dealings.

You can read the report here.

On the off chance that the Beeb have got their European ordinances in a twist, I have reached out to the folks at Nyon about this new development.

Hello, is this BBC report accurate apropos FFP?

Is FFP still in force, or has FSR superseded it?

I will publish their reply when I receive it.

Unlike the football authorities in Fair Caledonia, the UEFA Media department usually responds timeously and appropriately to this accredited journalist.

Whatever the actual set of regulations, it further underlines that UEFA is serious about reining in clubs that brute force a sporting advantage via external finance.

It is worth remembering that Sevco is one of 19 clubs in Europe that are currently on a UEFA FFP watch list.

That’s almost as important as their top spot in the Instagram League.

  1. Phil…I am of the opinion that people like Jackson, McIntyre et al. are still in a job…thanks to Celtic bloggers.
Please correct me if I’m wrong…but don’t these ” hacks” rely on clicks to justify their existence …and in turn present this to their “superiors ” as proof of their ” popularity” ?
I firmly believe that their headlines and articles are click-bait…and our Bloggers fall for it.
Is it really necessary, therefore, to highlight, reprint and comment on their articles ?
    If I wanted to read their rubbish…which I don’t …I would do so…independently.
I just think that they receive the oxygen of publicity that they don’t remotely deserve.

  2. I see that Barry Ferguson is tipping his old club to be in the market for Nisbet and Shankland from Hibs and Hearts respectively.
Oh how master Beale would wish it to be so. However it’s doubtful if either of the Edinburgh clubs would part with their top goalscorers for anything less than a 7 figure sum and even then the transfer fee not to be stretched over a number of transfer windows.
Perhaps if they follow the Celtic model then a couple of players would have to exit to generate transfer funds before the current window closes?

  3. Dunno if anyone else spotted this line in the article:

“However, the belief is the change away from Financial Fair Play regulations to financial sustainability was done to make the game operate in a way that does not put clubs at risk.”

    Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice

  4. Hi Phil….perhaps you could advise on how the FFP rules uefa impose will affect the earlier report that new galactigo Todd Cantwell is being funded (wage wise)externally from the ibrox paychest?

If its the case that his rather sizeable wage..(.I believe he was reported to be on 29k a week, but don’t know how accurate that is…)
whilst at Norwich, then surely 120 k a month at ibrox is excessive for a team that cannot pay his reported fee, 125 thousand, in one payment, but needed 4 windows…

This surely CANT end WELL……forgive the pun….
