A decent guy calls it straight about Sevco

I think it is fair to say that the People are definitely revolting.

An eight nil aggregate score over their last two matches has not put the Ibrox klanbase in a good mood.

Obviously, as a self-pitying lynch mob, they have to find someone or something to blame.

Consequently, those who tend to be concerned about the existence of Kafflik Skoolz made an appearance.

Everyone anyone?

It was ever thus…

Obviously, the manager is now under pressure, and he knows it.

As regular readers will have spotted, I find something essentially likeable about the calm straight-talking Dutchman.

Here he puts the hacks straight on the allegation that there is a huge cash surplus at Sevco.

He’s right.

There isn’t.

However, it is the sort of thing that the ex-Chairman would want the Ibrox klanbase to believe.

The core message is that a spending splurge would commence if only HE were returned to the big seat in the Blue Room again.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Stateside manoeuvrings are real, and the Sevco High Command are genuinely concerned about them.

Hence the recent legal action.

Being a goalie is to sign up for a lifetime of being in the firing line if things go badly for your team.

After the four nil thrashing at Parkhead, many of Sevco’s delightful clientele wanted Mr Gio to drop Jonathan Peter McLaughlin.

Well, tonight in Amsterdam, he was still between the sticks and with the same score line at the end of the ten-year-old club’s inaugural Champions League match.

There was something of a clamour among the klanbase after the Celtic game for Allan McGregor to be given the gloves.

Now, it would be particularly messy if there was some sort of contractual reason for this not happening.

Let’s just say, speculating wildly here, if Mr McGregor gets one first-team start; his salary goes up to the level of his last deal for the rest of the season.

Just imagine that…

However, I’m sure that isn’t the reason that Gio did not change his keeper for the Ajax match.

The Sevco manager is suffering now because, in part, he got his charges to overperform previously in Europe.

Getting past PSV was a genuine achievement and with limited resoruces.

Moreover, the road to Seville saw some serious outfits dispatched.

Of course, Gio has lost Aribo and Bassey, and that duo gave his side their athleticism.

Now without them, they were easy prey to Celtic’s relentless pressing last weekend.

It was death by multiball.

Tonight they don’t seem to have managed any better against Ajax.

In the post-match interview, his honesty was on display.

“Too much to ask.”

Ouch!

The next stop for those plucky lads in Norwegian Blue is Pittodrie.

It is not such a fanciful scenario to imagine that Sevco’s season could implode before September is over.

If the Dutchman is considering his position tonight, then it is because his commitment to the truth regarding his work is non-negotiable.

  1. With nothing better do do yesterday I watched the highlights of the Ajax v Rangers match and while the Dutch team displayed the 3 stars above the club badge denoting their 3 European Cup wins the 5 stars previously “adorning” the Rangers top have mysteriously disappeared. I was wondering if UEFA have stepped in and informed them that they were not entitled to display them.

  2. Post 2012 Sevco had the chance to start a clean slate but came up with the fairy tale aided by the media and others that it was the mythical holding company that went into liquidation and not the club
We even had the introduction of the Engine room subsidiary appearing .
We had the secretive 5 way agreement too
They have lived above their means for years making huge losses
Ignored by the Scottish football authorities.
We had the long running Mike Ashley story which ended up then losing and costing them an undisclosed sum
Knowing Ashley would not be a small sum.
Fans are just questioning where the money has gone given the amounts they have supposedly made
Their fans are being ripped off with prices for champions league tickets .
I’ve no sympathy for GVB he knew what he was getting into bed with Whig he came to the club .
As for the fan who says his father would be turning in his grave regards a player blessing himself sadly he is only one if many in this wee country with this thinking.
    Makes you weep

  3. The problem Gio has with being honest and decent is he’s in a minority of one. He is definitely in the wrong place, he was always too good for that klub, be it the original he played at or the tribute act where he manages. The sad thing is, so early in his managerial career, this could do lasting damage… and all because there’s no money to back him. He should’ve stayed away from Ibrox and built a career and a reputation.

  5. I liked Gio as a player and he comes across well.

However, as an ex-player, [of RFC], he knew exactly what values sevco upheld: his choice to return as manager.

And the shocking RIFC financials weren’t exactly a secret: the publicly available Accounts have been racking up huge losses each year.

But, I do have some sympathy for him, as he is going to be the fall guy in the absence of an immediate turnaround in his team’s performances.

sevco has a much weakened squad than last season – when the club won nothing.
CFC has a much strengthened squad than last season – when the club won the Double.

Gio is on a hiding to nothing.
