Of plea deals and PR

In the footie world, no player likes it when the manager decided that they don’t warrant a starting berth.

Therefore, I was saddened to hear that Sevco’s in-house PR superhero has been somewhat side-lined on the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) story

Personally, he should a first pick for me.

I do love it when he is allowed to do Statement O’clock.

Apparently, the response to this very serious matter is being coordinated by a Stateside based member of the Sevco High Command.

I understand that the CMA has ALL of the relevant paperwork from both JD Sports and Elite Sports.

My information is that JD was first in the CMA’s door with a mea culpa and a plea deal to the man.

The Elite did the same sometime afterwards.

It was the smart move.

Obviously, there is another party to this rather messy matter and, as far as I’m aware, they haven’t reached out to the CMA yet.

One of the potential problems for Sevco is that if the CMA base the financial penalty on turnover, then this year has been a very good one for the ten-year-old club.

Higher turnover means a higher fine.

The other thing is that this potential bill hasn’t been mentioned in the RIFC accounts in the last two years.

Just to be clear the CMA issue has NOTHING to do with the case that saw the Ibrox club in court defending an action by Sports Direct.

That, as you will know has been settled for an as-yet-undisclosed amount.

Dear reader, if you start speculating at around, say,  £15m then I don’t think that you would be totally off target.

Similarly, the Sports Direct case was not concerned with the strange appearance in the Ibrox store of Castore replica kits that seem to have different origins.

Just keep that one in mind as it hasn’t gone away you know.

The devil is still in the retail.

Moreover, it would not be idle speculation to suggest that Hummel will now go after Sevco regarding the third year of their deal that they had with them before Castore came in the door.

With all of that, it is important to look at all possible ways to bring in extra revenues.

If I was advising the Sevco High Command I might even bring up the thorny issue of stadium naming rights.

I just might.

Especially if I was on a percentage.

Now, that one would test even a PR person with superpowers.

  2. The Turkish Delight Arena springs to mind
Roll up Roll up get your fake football tops
    2 for a fiver .
As ever the fans blame everyone else and are raging at Castore when someone at Ibrox must have known where these football tops were coming from and hoping no one would find out .
Yet as ever its never the club or is it the holding company or engine room subsidiary or whoever to blame .
It’s never them Honest Dave says so .
So it must be true .

  3. The Poundland Arena seems most suitable. It will remind everyone how much David Murray sold the old club for shortly before it died.

  4. If Celtic sold some dodgy kit, rather than ‘let’s burn down Nike / Adidas / Castore’, I suspect some of the fans would question who at the club had signed the contract and would askbwhether they had done things properly.

Rangers always seem to be viewed by their fans as a vulnerable child, constantly deceived and tsken advantage of. It’s a bit embarrassing!

  5. The PR expert doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.

The jig is up for sevco, as their involvement has already been confirmed / corroborated by the other 2 parties.

Muzzling the PR chap is a sensible move.
