Of fables and fledglings

As regular readers will know, it was commercially crucial to Scottish Football PLC  to pretend that Rangers did not suffer anything untoward in 2012.

It was vital to go along with the fantasy that Sevco Scotland Limited, now trading as The Rangers Football Club, was the club that John Greig captained.

Charles Green had been assured by the chaps at Hampden that his new club would be dropped straight into the topflight.

Thankfully that part of the plan was scuppered by the No To NewCo campaign, which included fans from various SPL clubs.

Then the late great Turnbull Hutton stood on the steps on Hampden and said that Plan B was also a nonstarter.

It was a victory for sport after a decade of cheating.

The chaps on the sports desks were always on board with the survival fable.

However, the news desk journos just reported the plain truth after the CVA was rejected in June of that year.

Since then, the requirements of the sports desks have taken priority in titles that are circling the circulation drain.

Consequently, the Orwellian lie of survival is crucial to the embattled bottom line of these newspapers.

Therefore, I  could only smile wryly when this was sent to me today from a  working journalist in Scotland.

In fairness, the erudite Mr Jack is a true believer and not one of the many Sevco Conversos.

As far as he is concerned, the team playing against the German side tonight is the same club that was beaten in the UEFA Cup final in 2008 when the klan attacked the police and trashed Manchester city centre.

Initially, the Stenography Corps tried to play down the seriousness of the disorder until CCTV footage emerged the following morning.

Of course, Glasgow also had to endure the same fascist street theatre last year from the same delightful fans.

RB Leipzig was founded a year after the Ibrox klanbase rioted in Manchester.

That undoubtedly makes them a “fledging club”.

However, it also means that they are three years older than Sevco.

“Sevco Scotland, and it alone bought the assets and carried on the business. The concept of the Rangers Institution continuing exists only in the minds of diehard supporters.”

For the avoidance of doubt, it is the role of the Fourth Estate to counter such myths and fables.

Sadly, in Fair Caledonia, the Orwellian narrative that Rangers did not die in 2012  is an essential occupational qualification to be involved in fitba churnalism.

It isn’t a good look.

Meanwhile, my thoughts are with the lovely people of Seville.

They do not deserve to have the Ibrox klanbase in their beautiful city.

Now, only these young men can prevent such an appalling vista.

Not all fledgling clubs are the same.
