Eyeing the exit at Ibrox as Celtic charge ahead

Lynch mobs are always looking for a new victim.

In the aftermath of that battering last night, the Ibrox klanbase needed someone to blame.

Borna Barišić, their Croatian fullback, seems to fit the bill.

There is no doubt that he didn’t have a good time up against Liel Abada.

In fact, the Croatian international looked as if he didn’t want to be there.

I don’t mean Parkhead, but in a Sevco jersey!

The dejected way he simply sat down after the young Israeli ghosted in on his blindside was a sight to behold.

Scroll to 2.44 and focus on the defender.

You don’t need to be a body language expert to conclude that the guy with 21 caps for Croatia had “chucked it”, as they say in Fair Caledonia.

Then the footage emerged for CalMac relentlessly closing him down on the wing.

The Celtic captain excoriated his terrified opponent with a single word from the vernacular:

“Shitebag!”

Now, look again at this presser from last month.

Regular readers will know that I reported that immediately after this media event, the fullback had a rather free and frank exchange with Sevco’s PR superhero.

Apparently, Borna had gone off script somewhat.

The Croatian had answered the question truthfully that he didn’t know if he would be there in February.

Unfortunately for him, he still is in situ.

The simple truth is that the Sevco manager has a core of players who do not want to be there.

Several of them were hoping for a move in the January transfer window.

Consider this, Sevco has shipped SIX goals in their last two league matches.

Two of their back four fancied a move in the January window.

Now, I’m sure that they’re giving their all in every game, but at the top end of any sport, psychology can play a part in altering fine margins.

However, I doubt if the Ibrox klanbase will be so understanding.

  1. Tavernier was just as much to blame for that third goal as Barasic. Hatate was taking a break when Taylor rather cruelly chucked it for him down the side. What is Tavernier doing?

    • It was Jota who took the throw in. It looked rehearsed to me. Hatate was just kidding he was fixing his socks, and Tavernier bought it.

    • I used to rate Barasic but no wonder he was hooked at half time after sitting down on the job whilst Abada did what he does best.
The Man Unt youngster was posted missing for the whole game and makes the new Messi claim laughable.
If it hadn’t been for their goalie it could quite easily have been 5 at half time.
It’s little wonder that Celtic took their foot off the pedal in the 2nd half such was the speed of movement and passing in the first 45 minutes.
Difficult to pick a man of the match when so many hit the heights, Hatate, Abada and Juranovic, to name but three were the main men.
The two centre backs were so solid that the Celtic goalie never had a save of note to make in the whole game.
GVB is one more bad result away from having a full stadium on his back.
Welcome Aaron Ramsay, it’s you who the Messiah tag’s shoulders will be resting on, and failure to produce miracles will not be acceptable to a fan base whose expectations have no limits.
