Poundland Dutch Masters required at Sevco

I’m told that the Director of Fantasy at Sevco has been onto Mr Gio.

Apparently, he wants the new manager to unearth exciting new talent from his homeland.

The important proviso is that they do not cost the basket of assets any money at all!

Despite selling Nathan Patterson for the equivalent of the Pentagon’s bullet budget, money is still tight at Ibrox.

Now, if any young players arrive from the Netherlands, then expect the usual succulent suspects to hail the kid as the new Cruyff.

You know the drill.

For the chaps in the Blue Room, the activity across the city is something of an appalling vista for them.

Celtic are bringing in full international players to augment the squad for the second half of the campaign.

The comparison between the two clubs in this window is, so far, quite glaring.

At some point, one or two of the Ibrox klanbase might ask an inconvenient question or two.

Then again, perhaps not…

However, that isn’t the only issue that is perplexing the Sevco High Command.

They are frantically looking for the correct type of person to relieve Mr David Cunningham King of his remaining shareholding in RIFC.

All of the above is a rich vein for any journalist in Scotland to be pursuing.

Sadly,  succulent rules are still in place.

  1. Losses are historic, they have been covered by the Ibrox board putting 100m IN to build their squad. Compare this with Celtic where 100m in transfer fees have been taken in three years and that value has moved OUT of the squad. It’s the reason why they are champions, sit 6 clear and are favourites to get the 30m CL money. Celtic are financially stronger but the Board at Ibrox has ensured better value has gone into their squad last few years. They are nowhere near financial ruin, losses are historic (covered already by their Board) and the CL 30m money and the sale of a couple of players will see them in stable financial situation next season for sure. Celtic fans need a cold shower if they think Ibrox is going to collapse, if anything in my view they will get stronger from here. We lost the chance to really push them down when we did not invest more of that 100m in transfer fees and let our squad wither. Tragic. We can sneer at them all we want re finances, but we are the ones behind, we are the ones who need to spend.

  2. The last two month ends have seen quiet share issues of around £1.5m each, to unnamed buyers.

To pay salaries/keep the lights on I hear. With around five/six months til season tickets go on sale this seems to me like a desperate situation. Even IF they were to win the league this year, and DON’T rule it out, they have a six point lead and ELEVEN points as as direct result of penalties, they would not see any of the CL money til around this time next year.

I suspect this year’s figures will be truly awful even with the fans back in. A year’s CL money would only keep them on life support.

I don’t know how many, if any, installments are due on previous acquisitions, but they really are a money pit. The film of the same name starring Tom Hanks had some of the funniest scenes, (I still almost cry with laughter at the collapsing scaffold), I have ever seen on screen. Possibly because I’ve bought an old run down house in the past and could relate to some of the problems. However there’s nothing funny about the financial scenario at the crumbledome.

  3. There is bound to be a few freebies out there, maybe not a Dutch master but someone looking to top up the pension or have one last payday. The lovely men writing in the Scottish Media can then make it out that rangers won the battle to sign these galacticos against stiff opposition.

Of course med-long term it is crap policy with no resale but it covers the here and now for Jam today FC.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost a couple more first teamers in the transfer window. Realistically they will take any 6 figure amount now for those who can walk in the summer. Twist or stick though is the question for now, it becomes more stresful near the end of the window.

  4. I’ve been having some naughty thoughts recently.

If there was some maverick billionaire out there who just wanted to have an expensive laugh at the Gullibillies expense, would it still be possible for this imaginary person to buy the original Rangers and pay off their old debt, thus taking claim over the history and trophies of the previous incumbent of Ibrox, as it is still going through the process of being dissolved.

I know that it’s a far fetched notion, but I’m just wondering.

Perhaps some wags from the Celtic support could do a fund-me to see what kind of deal could be had in order to take on the debt, purely to destroy any notion of the continuation myth.

I know that Mr Green bought the basket of assets, (Ibrox & Murray Park) but that didn’t include the history, otherwise they would have been stuck with the bill.

    Purely my own malevolent thoughts.

As the full budget is a mind-blowing $715 billion, that sounds a lot!

The recruitment of the Ajax U18 coach was portrayed as a top-notch coach (he might well turn out to be but that’s a long way off) then similar puffing of players is a nailed-on certainty.

    • The thing that has consumed me for the last three years has been duly dispatched by the publisher to the printy place.
I submitted the manuscript last summer-that was the easy part…

      • Looking forward to the release of the new book Phil as I thoroughly enjoyed the last one.

Will we be able to order signed copies like last time?

It may have been three years in the making but will be well worth the wait I’m sure.

      • Yes, what I don’t know about print media could fill stadia all over Scotland, my brother spoke of issues he had at that time with his working printer having niggling issues. I just nodded at the right junctures, I hope.

It’ll be worth all that hard work Phil, as I’m sure it will be another fine read and every bit as successful as its predecessors. G’luck🍀

  7. RIFC has accumulated losses in excess of £100M, yet always seems to find the cash to keep the lights on…somehow. So, why can’t it ‘be arranged’ for King’s shares to be purchased?

As for Gio and his transfer budget…. this season will be a real test of his man management skills.

Allegedly, in this ‘150th year’ Gio has been told he can have any player he wants – just as long as the transfer fee does not exceed £150! 🙂
