A dead empire and a dead club

The far-right in Scotland have not had much to celebrate since the night of September 19th, 2014.

The defeat of the Scottish independence referendum was a signal to the trailer trash of a dead empire to party.

It was all Quintessinally British.

Of course, the Unsurpassed Dignity came as standard.

Now the hours are counting down to Sevco Scotland’s  (AKA The Rangers Football Club) inaugural SPFL title.

Of course, the media will continue with the continuation myth.

They know that the Old Firm brand brings in money.

Sadly, Celtic’s outgoing CEO also agreed with them…

That is the only explanation for his behaviour since 2012.

Regular readers will be well versed on this matter.

In early 2011 Mr Lawwell was in convivial discussions with Martin Bain (the Chief Executive of the original Rangers) to sell both clubs as Old Firm package to the English Premier League.

Unfortunately for Mr Lawwell, the other half of the partnership suffered an insolvency event.

With the CVA blocked, it was clear even to the Scottish press what had happened in June 2012.

Then  Charlie and the boys offered a way out.

They could pretend that Sevco was actually Rangers, and they all got on board.

For the avoidance of doubt, these creditors are still unpaid.

These bills were run up because Rangers put a team not he field that they could not afford.

They cheated every club in Scotland and lied about it.

Since created in 2012, the new club has been a by-word for chaotic financing and poor governance.

The one constant has been the obedience of the Stenography Corps to the Ibrox franchise.

Many things have favoured Sevco this season.

Ironically one of the main ones was the absence of their culturally unfortunate klanbase from stadiums.

They were also genuinely lucky with injuries.

It was also a stroke of luck that Mr Scot Arfield didn’t attend his birthday party.

Amazingly, any infractions of Covid regulations only seem to have been committed by fringe players in Mr Gerrard’s squad.

Of course, their main stroke of luck was the compete ineptitude at the other side of the city.

Consequently, Fair Caledonia is about to witness a Fenian Blood festival by people who think that they are The People.

Sadly, they have been socialised into a toxic world view, a dying member from the dead British Empire.

The final line in Neal Ascherson’s essay in this anthology is highly apposite.

“Scotland, by recognizing its ugly face in the imperial mirror, has become more European.”

Ugly face indeed…

When the league is finally sealed, the Ibrox klanbase will belt out their anthem that remembers a razor gang founded by a sleep-identifying fascist who was a Ku Klux Klan member.

Scotland 2021.

Ulster poet Toma Paulin once wrote of the Reverend Ian Paisley’s role in authorising Loyalist murder gangs with his tub-thumping apocalyptic sermons  “puritan metaphor . . . has a habit of becoming literal”.

I was in Scotland during the last six weeks of the IndyRef campaign in 2014.

Thankfully, I was not in George Square that night.

Even back then, I was practising social distancing from the Ibrox klanbase.

As I was walking the permitted 5km up my bóithrín in Dún na nGall today, I was sanguine that the chances of occasioning upon one of these unfortunates are highly unlikely.

I fully realise that others are not so lucky as your humble correspondent, dear reader.

Stay safe folks.

  1. Last weekend’s Sevco superspreading events, and the police role in facilitating them, suggest it would be foolhardy indeed to allow the Sevco v Celtic game to go ahead in two weeks’ time. Celtic should show some leadership here, uphold COVID protocols and press for this game to be cancelled. Indeed, there is a clear argument for Nicola Sturgeon to show that red card she mentioned when Bolingboli flew back from Spain without telling his club. (That red card should have been shown to a few civil servants over the failure to nail Salmond too!) End the season now, wind up football until the autumn. It’s the only way forward.

  2. I was in George Square on the night on the election night, it wasn’t a problem, in fact there was a really good atmosphere, I suspect fuelled by the confirmation bias bubble which had those of us congregated firmly of the belief that we were well on out way to becoming an independent nation.

Thankfully I left and headed East as the polls closed. It was as the results started coming in that things turned ugly.

The scenes were very reminiscent of yesterday. An ugly mob utterly convinced in their divine right to entitlement taking primacy over the views and rights of everyone else.

It may be that the government stick to their promise that we will start moving to regional lockdown levels. After yesterday I suspect not, but even if they do at the very least an incredibly large chunk of the population of greater Glasgow will be forced into longer lockdown because of the entitlement of a group of morons celebrating their team’s first ever top flight title and pretending it’s something else.

Still they are no strangers to causing prolonged suffering for small businesses that lot.

  3. Are all the fireworks going off in Glasgow just now because the old dead Club has finally paid it’s back taxes and Creditors??

  4. Sadly they got away with cheating, tax fruad, and now getting away with being perseved as the same club.

They deserved the title this year, but any talk of 55 is sheer garbage, it is being hyped by the media who have long forgot that this mob cheated Scottish football of it dignity.

  5. The behaviour of our board as regards the governance of Scottish football over the past 10 years has been a disgrace. To accept the 5 way agreement and the findings of the Nimmo enquiry by our club and the rest of Scottish football will go down as a dereliction of duty in the fight for fairness in the game. After watching Celtic for the past 70 years I don’t think I have ever felt so let down by a Celtic boardroom and considering that takes in the White/Kelly latter years it takes some doing.
On the question of Scottish Independence I hope this happens sooner rather than later, a lot of people seem to think that Independence means rule by the SNP forever its Ironic that the biggest threat to the hegemony of the SNP will be Independence . The success of the SNP is based on people voting for them as the main vehicle towards Independence, after Independence day things will change and people will vote for parties more about policies rather than about one issue,
There will be scaremongering as usual by the doomsayers and the British establishment and Media. Hopefully the Scottish
people will go for it next time and take our place as a Nation once again like scores of similarly sized nations throughout the world.

  6. ‘Stay safe folks’ needs emphasis. I’m a Celtic supporter and on two occasions my life was seriously in danger by sudden and unexpected exposure to ‘the peepul’. No surprise there then.
What was surprising was, that on both occasions I was just an ordinary punter going about my business but unfortunately caught up in peepul celebrations of triumph.
The most notable was when Jock Stein’s 10IAR was brought to an end at Easter Road. On my way home from the docks I was caught up in wholesale violence and vandalism. (Barcelona 1972 anyone?)
I use the word ‘triumph’. Triumph feeds on victory, but is not satiated by it. There is no joy. Victory is never enough. What is required is the obliteration of the perceived enemy. Annihilation of spirit in its most gentle form, annihilation of life itself in its most extreme. Be in no doubt, these ‘peepul’ are more dangerous when they have won than at any other time.

We are about to experience some horrendous acts of retribution. Please! Stay safe folks. Hail-hail. Lewis

  7. “The important thing is to get the trophy back” Gerrard said (bbc sport). Maybe someone should tell him they’ve never had it before, this will be a first.

  8. As they congregate outside the Bigotdome in their hundreds as we speak, I’m pretty sure Plod won’t be handing out fines to Klan members for their lack of social distancing and breaking Covid-19 laws. Their team hasn’t received a penalty against them all season so why start now? HH

  9. No doubt the celebrations will be long and loud after a ten year wait to land a trophy or title.
St Johnston with two trophy wins in that period are Scotland’s second most successful team.
Who would ever have thought that possible?Even during Rangers 9 IAR Celtic were winning the odd Scottish or League Cup then along came Big Jock and history was made with the European Cup in the Celtic Park trophy room.
Let’s get on with the rebuild and a quick return to dominance in Scotland.

Although carrying a walking aide sometimes helps with way more than it does in just walking !!
When hill walking it’s always advisable to carry one;just incase, you might meet mad dogs out without their owners,or even vice versa.

PL a will carry what he did to his grave, with that;Lang may his lum reek, heavy burden Pistole Pete?

We can All thank our lucky stars M.McCarthy signed a new deal keeping him well away from CP🍀

  12. When the new club win a trophy will it be Rangers or The Rangers inscribed on it.? I was always under the impression that when a company went bust and restarted again they couldn`t use a name that might confuse it with the old company.

  14. Vintage Phil!!! As previously stated – ‘a mutual loathing of the klan….what’s not to like?’ Your considered prose is a comforting touchstone in these trying times as the ‘culturally challenged’ contemplate dark conlave in celebration of ‘One in a Row’……..HH

  15. if you do happen to run into one Phil, ask them two salient questions:
    1) if it’s the same klub, when are they going to pay off the debts to the aforementioned creditors, and
    2) if it’s the same klub, when are they going to take responsibility and recognition of the child abuse cases at Ibrox?
they skulk away very quickly on hearing these hard facts, dragging their hairy UVF tattoo’d knuckles along the road back to their 17th century dwellings
