Statement from the Resolution 11/12 Group

No doubt the upcoming Celtic AGM  would have been a tense affair if it were not a remotely held event because of Covid.

The conduct of the board regarding the Resolution 12 issue since 2013 is something that will not go away.

Like many things at the club, it raises questions about the Chief Executive.

The following is a statement from the Resolution 11/12 Group.

They asked me to publish it here and I am happy to do so.

Celtic AGM 2020. Resolution11/12 – Some Clarity

I have been asked by Celtic shareholders pursuing Resolution 12 (now Resolution 11) to set out their understanding of Celtic’s response to The Shareholders Statement both of which can be found on The Celtic AGM Notice on the Celtic web site at

Celticplc_AGM_Notice_2020_061120.pdf (celticfc.net) on pages 8 and 9.

Some confusion has arisen as result of the final sentence in the Boards response

“In the circumstances the Board considers the resolution to be unnecessary and recommends that you vote against it”

However, they have also said

The Company was disappointed when the Scottish FA declined to investigate the issues referred to and was surprised when the Scottish FA determined not to continue with proceedings, which it had itself opened. In respect of the particular issues now raised, the Board has engaged with the requisitioning shareholders and will engage with the relevant authorities as appropriate in the interests of the Company, providing an update when possible. In the circumstances, therefore, the Board considers the resolution to be unnecessary and recommends that you vote against it.

On the voting form, this has been condensed to:

Ordinary Resolution
11. That the Board take steps to refer the Scottish Football Association to UEFA with regard to its licensing practices.

FOR
AGAINST
WITHHELD

Initially puzzling but this is from the original Resolution 12 which the Board now deem unnecessary because of the undertaking in the Boards response highlighted in bold above. where Celtic are now undertaking to investigate as opposed to leaving the matter with shareholders. This change in position is welcome even if belatedly,  however, the Resolution 12/11 shareholders were not happy with the lack of clarity in the original Board response and at least 50 have sent emails to the AGM e mail address  [email protected]    to seek more detail on the process of engagement and express their concerns in respect of the involvement of the CEO, in whom they have lost confidence,  in any process regarding the  SFA or UEFA.

Samples of two such emails can be read HERE. They ask questions but have two key underlying issues :

  1. a return to the Celtic moral ethos on which Celtic were founded and lost under the PLC                               and
  2. the need to rebuild trust between supporters and The Celtic Board

We expect Celtic to respond at the AGM to the points raised in the emails from shareholders to clarify their intent as we see morality and trustworthiness as two of the essential values that brought Celtic into being and makes them a club like no other.

  1. 2012 was the opportunity to recalibrate Scottish football after 20 years of decline and irrelevance.
We are now back to where we are before due primarily to Celtic requiring a Rangers as the Old Firm and all that it entails (corrosive to Scottish society) was financially lucrative to Celtic.
Fans outside Celtic don’t give a flying about 10 in a row and much as we dislike Rangers look upon this season as payback to Celtic and their unwillingness to move forward to the 21st century post 2012.
It was the wee men like Turnbull Hutton and supporters from the diddy clubs not buying season tickets who stopped Sevco in 2012. Celtic & Stuart Milne at Aberdeen who refused to change voting structures because of their pocket have inflicted this upon us until Rangers or Celtic go belly up again.
You may enjoy 2 bald men fighting over a comb but the rest of us want proper competition.

    • Until Celtic or servo go belly up again, think you might have got that wrong there JP. Only one team in that sentence went belly up.

It’s great to get good Intel Phil keep it coming.

      Hail Hail

  2. Last night’s performance and result…merely underlined, for me, why NL has been getting the criticism he has.
For months the ” old favourites ” have been getting trotted out …game after game…while I’ve been screaming…
“Time for a change Neil…get some freshness into the team.”
I also said to my mates that if I’d been Turnbull or Soro…I might have asked for a transfer.
Seriously…these guys must have been sitting there wondering what the hell was going on.
And it reinforced my opinion that NL hasn’t been doing the job right …and it’s cost us…. big time.
I take little pleasure from the score line last night…as its too little…too late…for Europe.
Will we roar back domestically now…and get back to winning ways ?
Obviously I hope so…but my concern is…Who else is going to take points from Sevco…?
Based on what I’m watching just now…no one !!
It may well turn out that last night was the reprieve that NL had been hoping and praying for…and that he goes on to keep his job.
I maintain that his intransigence has cost us so much…and he needs to go.

  3. The board have forgotten the whole ethos of the club and are trying to spin their way out of the mess they have created through negligence via other celtic blogs

why will the board lose money if they support the resolution.?

as Johnny Rotten says Transparency is all we want

  4. I always saw Rangers and Celtic as two cheeks of the same arse. After 2012 I thought, and hoped, things might change. Nothing has and now the MSM love it. You did this to yourselves Celtic because you allowed your board to lead the way and shame on you.

  5. Celtic’s board have a huge dilemma, Support the resolution and lose money OR try to get it dropped and piss off fans.

Now what do you think is more important to the board?

    Cash or fans?
