Operation Love Alfredo and extended payment cunning plans

As regular readers will know I have been tracking the failed attempts to punt the Colombian striker since January 2018.

Then yesterday Mr Let’s Go let it be known that despite being linked with a dizzying array of top-level clubs the huffy hitman might still be a Sevco player when the window closes in a few weeks.

In fairness to Alfie, he didn’t create this situation.

The Sevco High Command released two years ago that, for once, they might have an asset on their hands that could generate some profit on the transfer market.

For the avoidance of doubt, their wealthy neighbours across the Clyde are rather adept at player trading.

Once the decision was taken in the Blue Room to cash in on Alfie, the Stenography Corps were put on orders.

For the past two years, it has become increasingly ridiculous.

As this transfer window has progressed, many on Planet Fitba have enjoyed playing Alfredo Bingo.

If the time has been called on this subset of fantasy football, then Sevco has a confused and unsettled player on their hands.

The problem is that the PR campaign to generate an actual genuine bid got inside Alfie’s cabeza.

Consequently, he really believes he is a £30m player and so, importantly, does his agent.

This has led to higher wages demands, which have been met.

All of this was seen in the Blue Room as necessary as they waited the Great day when Alfie would be sold for big money.

If Operation Sell Alfredo has been put on the shelf due to a dearth of real offers, then  Mr Let’s Go ahs to cope with a distressed asset in this squad.

Sop is it now Operation Love Alfredo?

That would be the smart move.

Certainly, the presser yesterday was a love bombing mission on the Colombian.

Meanwhile, the real reason for Operation Sell Alfredo remains extant.

Last night I learned about the shenanigans behind the attempt to acquire the services of Daniel Johnson from Preston North End.

Here is a helpful tip for anyone in the Stenography Corps who wants to dabble in journalism:

Ask the Ibrox club how many payments tranches they were offering to the Lancashire club.

Now I know why Alex Neil did not consider what Sevco offered to be “a proper bid”.

Good grief, NINE payment tranches?

Now, go and check that one out lads.

With the eight-year-old club, it is always advisable to follow follow the money.

  1. Silly bids? £800,000 for a 20 year old who is playing league 1 and is free to sign for clubs for nothing in a couple of months.
Oh I forgot, their club is in heavy debt and need money

  2. The King strategy of ‘over investment’ was always based on over-spending on players in the hope of moving them on for big bucks. The problem is that the players signed were simply not good enough or too old to generate a re-sale value. The best player at Ibrox, by a mile, is Ryan Kent, but they agreed to pay too much for him and there is a resale clause so a decent profit is unlikely any time soon.

The Morelos hype is utterly absurd. I think the SPFL is his level and he is a decent player at that level but that’s all. He is nowhere near the level that, for example, Leigh Griffiths was at Hibs, where he was a genuine talisman who often carried the team. As for his 20 goals in Europe, 14 have come in the qualifying stages and he’s never played Champions League so that initially impressive statistic is soon seen for what it is – hype!

Morelos will move on eventually because he does score goals but I doubt he will be going to a top club and I will go further and suggest he will struggle to find a club in a top league. He is into his third season in Scotland for a reason – nobody wants him!

  3. Looks like the only thing the 8 year old club will have to display on their new Honours Wall is the trophy for keeping 7 clean sheets at the start of the season!!!!!
    Wit,
    You’re kidding me on,
Wit dae yae mean, you don’t get a trophy for keeping 7 clean sheets!!!!

  4. On a similar theme. it seems that Celtic might be messing Charlton about with what their manager describes as “silly” bids for Alfie Doughty. It’s about time we settled this one properly, I dread having to watch Greg Taylor at LB for he rest of the season, he is very ordinary to say the least.

  5. 9 payment tranches! They are taking the piss. ..no surprises there.
A couple of goals today will be good enough to take Celtic top and perhaps Hibs could upset the apple cart tomorrow.
Looking upwards to see the Hoops on their way to 10 IAR will not be a welcome sight for the Ibrox club’s fan base.
And the Castore shambles rumbles on!

  6. I seem to remember a similar approach to finances in the final Seasons of the former Club Rangers Fc (In Liquidation).
They acquired Jelavic from Rapid Vienna for a reported fee of £4m which they agreed to pay in 4 instalments.
This one transfer effectively kept them in contention for the Title as he was definitely out of their Financial League when he arrived.
He of course went on to Everton for £5m as Rangers went into Administration.
The point is they were already living beyond their means and hence why they knew it was a calculated risk at that time as the writing was in no doubt already on the wall at Ayebrokes time was running out.
    He he
Per win them the League and Cup of course.
It would appear that old habits die hard in the Ayebrokes corridors of power.

Someone needs to be sold though that much is very evident given by the amount free advertising space the MSM has afforded them over the past 2 years or so as Operation Punt Alfie has been rolled out.
    If not him?
Then Kent will be gone I suspect.

  7. The press would have you believe there was no bids for this player. The reality is there was realistic bids put in but probably a small percentage of what **rangers** needs. The other possibility is. The worth of the club is based on the 20m asset they claim to have. If the receive half or a lot less than that, it could have an effect on the worth of Sevco
