Imaginary moves in the Blue Room continue while their rich neighbours get on with business

I have written before that I suspect that something strange happens to ordinarily sensible people once they ascend the Magic Staircase in Ibrox.

It might be that there is some discombobulating miasma surrounding the chairman’s seat in the Blue Room.

I’m told that at least one sane member of the Sevco High Command reckons that the interim chairman has developed a Deludamol addiction since his elevation.

The recent edict about Young Master Hagi makes no sense at all.

Is he is the latest vanity project to soothe the Ibrox klanbase?

Planet Fitba is facing the genuine prospect of a closed-door league for part of season 2020-2021.

Consequently, the only sensible course for the Engine Room Subsidiary

On the one hand, then low hanging fruit in the squad have already been picked.

This had the immediate effect of the agents of those six players calling the Serious Professional.

They all stated that their clients should be paid up in full for the deferred wages.

My information is that Jon Flanagan, for example, is on around £20k per week.

I’m sure that the representatives of Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick will not put up with any prevarication from the Sevco.

Of course, not every club can afford to let go of a future England internationalist.

Ahem…

One of the issues is that three of the six players thought that they actually had a future at the basket of assets.

Ouch!

Of course, financial chaos and an absence of planning is nothing new at Sevco.

The thing is that the Covid19 crisis presented the Sevco High Command with a perfect backdrop to finally come clean with the Ibrox klanbase.

A planned austerity programme over several years would see the club founded in 2012 reach a break-even situation.

However, two things stop that happening.

Firstly, the Sevco High Command must continue to pretend that they are the original Rangers.

Secondly, the prospect of Ten In A Row for Celtic haunts their every waking hour.

A league played behind closed doors is very bad news for clubs in Scotland.

For Celtic, it will involve cost-cutting if it goes beyond December, but it could be fatal for Sevco.

Various media players are looking at the possibility of some form of streaming service next season as fans are locked out of stadiums.

However, the elephant in the room is Sky.

They have paid a lot of money for their exclusivity, and they’re not minded to relinquish that.

Across the city, there is the quiet whirr of a well-run operation.

I’m told that three clubs are interested in securing the services of Kristoffer Ajer.

My information is that Leicester City has inquired with a sneaky lowball offer.

I’m not sure if this part-exchange represents good value for Celtic.

Manchester United have also registered their interest in the young Scandinavian defender.

If the kid does leave Celtic Park, then it will be for a KT sized amount with a hefty sell-on clause.

The rumours about interest in Aaron Hickey of Hearts also appears to have some substance.

The contrast between the wealthiest club in Scotland and their deluded neighbours across the Clyde could not be starker.

However, that does not seem to be the view from the Blue Room as they continue to move imaginary formations around the map.

  1. That Deludamol is doing the rounds indeed.
Tainted titles, tainted Scottish Cup and now a tainted win in Lisbon against Inter’s reserve team.
Nothing tainted about those EBT trophies though!
The poster goes back to 1960 as Rangers best chance of winning the Big Cup with a semi final tie against Eintracht then the venue for that year’s final at Hampden. Easy, peasie lemon squeezy.
Eintracht probably did them a favour by taking 12 goals off them over the two legs then themselves losing 7 in the final to an all conquering Real Madrid, Puskas, Di Stefano, Gento et al.
Keep taking the tablets lads and in case you missed the news your club voted to end the league last week along with the other 11 SPFL clubs, a fact that no one in the media thinks worthy of comment.

  2. Just to clear things up, a wee message to those Rangers fans and Borna Barasic who seem unaware that in last week’s SPFL vote to end the league their club voted in favour of the motion.
They did, the vote was unanimous and also secured the money from the final SPFL prize fund allocation for their 2nd place finish.
What part of that don’t they understand?

  3. They’ll be giving it the old double whammy talk next season. Going for 55, and stopping 10, all in one go.

Then when Celtic start stretching ahead it’ll be, “Doesn’t really count. No fans. A phantom league. Should have an asterisk.”

    • Another consideration.

If games are played behind closed doors in the absence of a large, noisy crowd- will our ‘renowned’ Grade 1 referees perform better, or worse?

And in the continued absence of VAR, would an e.g. TRFC v. CFC game see fewer controversial decisions, or more?

Might not make any difference at all to the current, poor standard of match officiating – but there is a risk it could get worse…

  4. Phil; your ending paragraph summed it up perfectly. Reading the article I was already picturing the Hitler bunker scene from Der Untergang. By the way, for those that don’t know German the translation is The Downfall. That has a nice wee ring to it, seem to recall hearing about a book by that name….

  5. I’d bring Benko back in a heart beat. Tom Boyd rated him further ahead of Virgil at the same stage. Only injury and being a loanee held him back when NL returned last year. He and CJ would be great together.

    • I rate Ajer better than Virgil was at the same age. When he does move it WON’T be to club like Southampton. And it WON’T be for £12m.

  6. Phil you need to catch up. The news from the blue side is that they made a fortune on their Europa Cup run.
They also have a 5 year new merchandising deal worth £20m, believe it or not.
There is no downside for them. Sports Direct, Memorial Walls, Hummel, nothing to see here.
Deferred wages, transfer fee instalments due, Hagi’s fee, no problem bring them on.
£10m requirement to keep the lights on as per last year’s accounts.
Is King still pulling strings and donating from South Africa?
Park’s motor and coach business will have hit a wall, along with that whole industry.
Whose going to step up to the plate now?

  7. Let’s start cranking up the heat on sevco by predicting and proclaiming 13 in a row as that would blow their going for 55 out of the water. The depression amongst the klanbase would be hot enough to melt every phone at the Samaritans disposal. Hail hail here go o 13 in a row

    • The nephew of wee Barry Square Baw becoming a Celt? Can you imagine the furious reaction that would provoke from the dark side?

I think he’s a right good player and will get a lot better but I can’t see it happening. His father on a bad day was twice the player his uncle was on a good day.

      • Been thinking more on this one. If we got young Lewis, and he fully bought in, the fury when spent would turn to despondency.

Many in Govan would see it as the beginning of the end. The complete disintegration of the world as they’ve always known it. It would be one of their own saying, “We’re not the big boys in the playground any more.”

“Our sons are turning their backs on us.” would be the thought creeping in.
