Brechin City decide not to hedge it with their statement

Sevco Scotland Limited played their first game at Glebe Park against Brechin City on July 29th 2012.

For the Ibrox klanbase, it was a stark reminder of the new reality after the death of Rangers that summer.

Today, the home team in Sevco’s inaugural match issued a statement.

It is short enough to reproduce in full here:

In what are extremely challenging times for everyone as we try to come to terms with the consequences of Covid-19 and the lockdown conditions, we are also regretfully facing turmoil in the world of Scottish football.

Members and Supporters of Brechin City FC will doubtless have been concerned and indeed alarmed at the current tirade of negativity towards the Club, and in particular our Chairman Ken Ferguson. This challenges the integrity and reputation, both of our Club, and that of Ken personally. Having remained respectfully silent to date, the Management Committee now unanimously feel compelled to firmly rebuff these claims and set the record straight.

In particular, in the recent dossier released in support of the EGM taking place at the SPFL tomorrow (Tuesday), there is an accusation which is pointed directly at our Chairman relating to his part in the run up to the SPFL vote which took place on Friday 10th April. This states, “It has also been alleged that Ken Ferguson (Brechin City Chairman and SPFL Board Director) called League 2 clubs and told them that Inverness had changed their vote to YES and, as a result, the Resolution was going to be approved and that there was no point in League 2 clubs voting NO.”

This is categorically refuted. Unfortunately, this is feeding the current media frenzy and, by association, Brechin City FC and our Chairman are being subjected to un-necessary scrutiny and wholly unwarranted abuse. In addition to anecdotal evidence from all of the other League 2 clubs, we have in our possession verification from each club that no such call was made. Furthermore, each League 2 club is content to provide corroboration to this effect and has stressed that they are entirely relaxed (and in reality appreciative) of the integrity Ken displayed in his role as an SPFL Director in the lead up to the vote.

The Management Committee will issue a further statement in comings days to fully address other allegations that have been directed towards the Club in the media and online in recent times.

Of course, the penultimate paragraph should have the Fitba Fourth estate on  full alert:

“This is categorically refuted. Unfortunately, this is feeding the current media frenzy and, by association, Brechin City FC and our Chairman are being subjected to un-necessary scrutiny and wholly unwarranted abuse.”

Once more and for the avoidance of doubt:

“…categorically refuted… wholly unwarranted abuse.”

That is the sort of thing that should have the intrepid chaps in the Stenography Corps digging for the truth.

However, hard facts might not fit the Blue Room approved narrative.

Therefore, as you were.

  1. No doubt King will have ordered Park to take the legal route now, thanking him in advance for picking up the tab.
I wonder on what point of law they think they can bring down the SPFL?
My two guesses would be as follows:
    1. We cannae have the Tims being crowned 9 IAR Champions.
    Or
    2. It’s no fair so it is’nae.
    M’lud, we rest our case.
Can’t wait for the next gripping instalment as Rangers and their media muppets set out to wreck Scottish football.
On the bright side if they succeed we won’t be insulted in the future with the ramblings of Jackson, Ralston, McDermott, English et al.
Might be a price worth paying?

  2. I wonder who concocted the Ralston article in the Daily Ranger today?
He’s all over the place and dealing in ifs and buts. Presumably someone had to do the adding up for him then show him how to work out the percentages on a calculator?
Funny how amongst his ifs and buts he failed to remove Rangers from his arithmetic nor Hearts, Stranraer and Thistle who have a vested interest in not being relegated.
Call Celtic Champions today, get it done, rub their feckin noses in it.
It’s pretty obvious that every time the Daily Ranger run with a story like this they further alienate some of their core readership and are left with subscribers some of whom are calling for ‘Nil and Void’ and others for an indecent enquiry into the workings of the SPFL.
    Hell mend them.

  3. Shameless dunce and Presstitute Gary Ralston, hard core SEVCO supporter, coming out with three lies in his article this morning.

He says SEVCO got a third of votes, which they did not. They got 30.95%. Liar.

He said they got over a third of clubs, which they did not. Liar.

The lunatic is now saying, having categorically won the vote, that the SPFL should have an investigation and concede a loss to Sevco who were right all along. Fud!

His headline indicated it was an argument between Celtic and Rangers. Lies.

He states if the two clubs who abstained, voted Yes it would be impossible for the SPFL. Rubbish. Sevco needed 75% and that brings them up to 36%. Ralston whataboutery pish.

The influence of the Daily Record and its low I.Q. Hacks to support SEVCO through influencing public opinion or pressurising individuals in the game is zilch. The DR is simply laughed at now. Ignored.

Sevco’s dossier of disaster proved nothing. They are left rag dolled and rejected by Scotland’s clubs. Powerless.

An investigation which Ultimately proves nothing would just make SEVCO even worse and bad tempered and child like. More ridiculous looking. More powerless. More stupid. That wouldn’t help the game at all or bring us forward.

Ralston has egg on his chin. I’m sure he’s used to it.

  4. What was the motivation of Gardiner at ICT and his null and void proposal? Where did that come from?
The Morton Chairman has left him without a name ,quite rightly.
I’m sure our media will be all over this to uncover who/what was pushing Gardiner’s buttons.
ICT should be considering his position.
Anyway, the votes are in, a significant majority has won the day, lets get on with it.
Corporate governance scream Rangers, how fecking dare they. When was corporate governance last seen at Ibrox?
Since Murray’s day and through to the present the Ibrox board has treated corporate governance as something that applies to others and not them.
Murray, with help from HBOS and unlimited access to cash, ran the club into the ground before selling it on to a charlatan for a £1,despite knowing the likely consequences.
Charlie boy came and went, nice chateau by the way Charles, and then Kingco arrived on the scene.
Since 2012, the start of the Kingco revolution, the club/company/ thingy has existed on board/other loans and numerous share issues, each one diluting the value of the shares already out there. No corporate governance whatsoever, it’s as if they have just discovered the phrase.
The thingy has never returned a trading profit and cumulative losses run to £50m plus since 2012, with the current financial year results pushing last year’s huge loss.
The number of court cases since Kingco took over alone points at a complete lack of corporate governance.
The Sports Direct fiasco has already seen a £3m payment made to Ashley with a significantly higher penalty working it’s way through the courts.
Where’s the corporate governance when your legal team either fail to understand the terms of a contract or whose advice is ignored because the board know best?
Much howling from the moon last night as the voting result sunk in.
Their fans have zero self awareness as the cry to boycott the clubs who didn’t support the motion went out with the avowed intention to put them all out of business, then what?
Don’t they realise that the pandemic is going to threaten all clubs and the likely survivors will be those where corporate governance is the name of the game and is in place and not those relying on soft loans from businessmen who have their own issues.
Is King still supporting the board with cash, what about his temporary replacement whose motor business has seen trade drop off a cliff in April, UK car sales 97% down on the same period last year, when 161,000 cars were sold compared to 8,300 this year..
97% down! There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of car sale outlets in the UK. That figure of 8,300 will have resulted in some of these outlets selling no vehicles at all and even then that market is very much to the advantage of the buyer.
Hagi for £4.5m in the current market, instalments due on Kent and others?
Aye right, Corporate Governance your way out of your own mess.

  5. Tom English on sportsound wanting it both ways.

He agrees all clubs are voting in self interest but the ones supporting the resolution are voting on nothing else but wanting rid of Doncaster and are unhappy with the SPFLs governance.

Can no-one on that show call him out on his agenda?

    • The majority of clubs supporting SEVCO are being relegated and that’s it. They don’t agree with Sevco’s points.

They don’t agree there’s bullying or coercion or corruption, they simply don’t want relegated.

Any investigation would spot up front it’s SEVCO plus axe to grind relegated clubs.

The Sevco dossier proved DONCASTER was abused by Park, it also contains outrageous lies, as proven by a lower league Chairman.

  7. The Sevco resolution at the EGM today was defeated democratically. They didn’t even get a third of clubs onboard.

    13 out of 42 is 30.95%. They needed 75%.

Even if you remove the two abstentions, it was 13 from 40 or 32.5%. They needed 75%.

The clubs have spoken. That is the Omega, the end of it.

There should never have been an EGM.

There’s no point suing someone who has nothing, because the most you can win is nothing, at considerable cost – see Pyrrhic victory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrhic_victory

An honest, paid lawyer should tell you this and advise against it.

  9. Reading media reports it looks as though Sevco got seven maybe eight votes. It needed 32.

As soon as four Premiership clubs said NO that was the game up.

Reports of impassioned and rousing speeches. Including a Peter Lawwell contribution.

I can imagine them being told they could sort out the problems among themselves behind closed doors. That they had sorted bigger things in the past. That CELTIC was going nowhere and fully supported Scottish Football, it’s organisations and all clubs,…….

Celtic, just wonderful, a perfect example of Integrity sporting or otherwise. A beacon of light to all in the darkness of the Sevco game play. The light will never diminish and the darkness will not overcome it.

  10. I see that Jermaine Defoe intents to keep playing until hes at least 93 years old. According to the Deadly Rectum, the 37 year old wants to be there to see the company win their 55th title.

Isn’t there a law against forcing people to work beyond pensionable age?

    Reply
  11. I see Defoe says it’s only a matter of time before Rangers win the league.
Matter of time is it Jermaine?
Do you intend playing on till you hit pension age or what?
It bad enough that the players come out with this crap and then worse when the papers deem it newsworthy..
Of course the ex and current Rangers players, many of them beneficiaries of illegal tax free EBT payments, don’t add their name to this shite without getting paid.

  12. If Club Dignitas lose the vote today how many minutes before the next statement o clock comes down the line from Ibrox?
At a time of crisis for Scottish football the SPFL and SFA should be working hand in glove with each other to ensure that the game in Scotland survives and comes out of the pandemic in the best possible shape.
Instead Maxwell has abandoned Doncaster and the SPFL and stood back as Rangers and their media friends take pot shots at them.
Never a big fan of Doncaster but he has to be commended for standing up to this wall of criticism, a wall created by the desire to stop, at any costs, Celtic’s path to 9 and 10 IAR.
Forget about all the noise, it’s nothing more than a stop Celtic at all costs exercise whipped up at Ibrox and supported by the blue side media.

  13. The vote today, if it does take place, do you really believe it will put paid to this ‘Never Ending Story’?
Ibrox is a rock upon which an increasingly demented Crustacea of sociopaths exist. I say exist, not live, not thrive.
My only hope, linked to a wish to live in a country free from this sickness, is that with each sorry chapter, the colony expose themselves for what they are.

If any of you have a few minutes of your life that you don’t want back in this current climate , perhaps you should read the rantings of Ann budge , it mirrors her Sevco cousins , deflection deflection deflection ! Instead of focusing on the real reasons they are being relegated eg they are woeful on the pitch , it’s the blame everyone anyone mantra that’s being spouted , very much like her big cousins , focus’s on anything else apart from the abject failure on the pitch , mr let’s go ! Is about to do walking away and they know it , his image is being damaged on a daily basis , and celtics financial clout is only going to make things worse for him when football returns .

  18. Unfortunately the media, especially the BBC are all in with Sevco narrative.

There’s no mention of the Brechin statement and the report about Roos McArthur speaking as the Dunfermline chairman is headed “Inverness’ claim of ‘bullying & threats’ denied by SPFL board’s McArthur”

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52618864

The SPFL Board have been united, apart from Sevco rep, and its imperative, from the Sevco perspective, to desperately try to fracture that.

  21. Since you mentioned THAT game against Brechin in 2012,

did anyone ever see the completed Team Sheet for the Ibrox club?

That game was played during a period of a few days when ‘The Rangers’ didn’t yet exist.

Was there a Team Sheet at all?

The name of the Team would have been interesting to confirm – and quite possibly wrong.

But no biggie: could have just been an ‘imperfectly completed’ Team Sheet by the new club.
