What is Sinn Féin’s position on Resolution 12?

Today the chaps at Pacific Quay reached a new low.

They invited this guy on to discuss his Early Day Motion about the SPFL vote.

Clearly, he thinks this is an appropriate use of parliamentary time during a pandemic.

You can listen to the programme here.

The DUP Politiciann’s shtick in recent years has been to denigrate the Irish language and those who speak it in the Six Counties.

His response in Stormont to hearing the words “go raibh maith agat” (thank you) was to follow with “curry my yoghurt”.

It was a boorish reflex from a bigoted mindset.

When challenged, he deployed the humour defence.

Afterwards, he even polished his act for the DUP conference.

So, this was the chap that BBC Scotland allowed onto the airwaves.

He wasn’t challenged with a single question.

In fairness, to a couple of the guys on the show questioned why Mr Gregory Campbell MP was invited on to give his views on Votegate.

I think Tom Connor at Pacific Quay has some questions to answer on this one.

Did any of his colleagues object to his decision?

It is my information that it was his call to have the DUP politician on the show.

Did the other contributors know that he was coming on?

Were their microphones muted as Campbell was given the floor?

After Flegory made his Quintessentially British contribution on the SPFL’s ability to carry out a vote, the null and void issue was discussed.

Mikey Stewart described this option as “ludicrous”.

Spot on Mikey.

As I was listening, I received a text from a Scottish journalist.

His displeasure at Flegory’s allocation of airtime was apparent:

“Public service dog whistling”.

Hard to disagree with that summation.

So, how do you follow that on the Beeb?

Next week on BBC Sportsound Mary Lou McDonald TD on Resolution 12!

For the avoidance of doubt, she would be well able for them.

Addendum

It would appear that someone at Pacific Quay had a word after the live broadcast.

Of course, the politician should not have been on Sportsound in the first place.

Not Radio Shortbread’s finest hour…

  1. Here is the response I got from the BBC, re the DUP MP:

“Thank you for contacting us. We note your concerns that DUP MP Gregory Campbell was interviewed on Sportsound on 25 April. To allow us to reply promptly and use the licence fee efficiently, we’re sending this response to everyone. We’re sorry we can’t reply individually but we hope this will address most of the points raised.

As the MP who tabled the early day motion in the House of Commons calling for an independent investigation into the Scottish Professional Football League’s handling of a vote to abandon the season, Mr Campbell was invited on to the programme to explain his reasons for raising the issue in Parliament, a decision that was editorially justified in that context.

Mr Campbell was asked what his motivations were for tabling the motion in Parliament, whether he had tried to speak to anyone close to the situation to try to establish what the truth of the matter is, and whether he felt the evidence that clubs such as Rangers – one of the teams calling for an independent investigation – have said that they hold should be shared with those who have to decide if an investigation should now take place.

As presenter Richard Gordon said after the interview, the MP’s motion runs through the various strands that the programme has discussed in recent broadcasts regarding the SPFL vote – a range of contributors, delivering a diversity of opinions, having discussed these various strands – including, for example, the calls for there to be an independent investigation into the handling of the vote.

We hope this response is helpful in explaining our approach, and thank you again for getting in touch. Your concerns have been added to our audience feedback reports for the attention of the programme team.”

  3. The noise coming out of Ibrox seems to be getting louder by the day.
It’s certainly earning them kudos with their fans and no doubt will bring in some much needed Season Ticket monies.
Is the real motivation for the noise because an admin event is imminent and they somehow want to lay the blame with the SPFL rather than their own gross mismanagement?
This is a board that hired Pedro on the basis of a video link interview and has somehow contrived to have signed up to a merchandising contract which has already cost them a £3m payment to Sports Direct with worse to follow.
Stopping 9 IAR is the only game in town because if there is an admin event then starting next season with a negative points tally will only further diminish a challenge from Ibrox and Celtic will cruise to 10 IAR.

  4. Wee bit of topic I know but I think there is a future issue drawing close for Scotland.
Suppose in the very near future a referendum is held in Ireland as regards the Unification of the Republic by means of a Democratic decision.
Where do you think the bulk of the Klan in the North will head if it comes to their temporary lease of the 6 Counties being brought to an end?

I think Scotland will be the first port of call for them if they wish to remain in the U.K.
Can you imagine the resulting fallout from that?
Be interested to know your thoughts on such a scenario taking shape.

  5. The lifesaving lockdown is 100% driven by medical science. It is not a thing for discussion or public opinion.

Sturgeon saying she wants a grown up conversation about the lockdown is thoroughly incompetent and reckless endangerment.

Science dictates what happens not public opinion. Not politics.

A woman who cannot handle the pressure trying to pass the buck.

This is one of those rare occasions, a global pandemic, when your rights, opinions, conspiracies and attitudes don’t matter a jot. You shut your face and do as you are told. For the safety of society, particularly the weakest in society.

    “Whit dae you think?”
“Oh ah‘ve hid enough ae it”
“Aye, ahm votin tae git back tae normal”

Meanwhile 700 per day are still dying, a few thousand more test positive and the science says we’re no further out of it.

Sturgeon’s endgame, knowing the disease will reappear after lockdown is to say the public wanted it. They wanted to lift the lockdown. I only did what they wanted.

The lockdown is a doddle. Scots can go longer and farther than any other nation on earth. We can stand out internationally as an exemplar of discipline and resilience. Regardless of a First Minister with no resilience.

  7. Oh dear, if its not statement o clock then its a poll on IN.
Apparently 85% of Rangers fans want to start afresh in the lower leagues of England due to the corruption, bribery and our football in Scotland being bent.
There’s no doubt that over the years a lot of skullduggery has happened around Scottish football, most of it concerning Rangers.
The EBT scandal, the Bryson imperfect but legal ruling on the players, the rising of Rangers 2 from the grave after death but miraculously hanging on to all the trophies won by Rangers 1.
Jim Farry blocking the registration of Cadete and we are still waiting on a proper explanation on that one.
Campbell Ogilvie, he of the £96k EBT, being in no way influenced by his previous Ibrox connections. The very same man that had to be reminded that holding shares in Rangers and Hearts during his spell at Hampden might leave him open to accusations of favouring one or both clubs.
Of course being the stand up guy Ogilvie is he immediately, when pushed, signed his shareholdings over to the wifey.
He knew that the EBT payments were being made to dozens of players over a number of years.
He knew that these payments were not included in the contract details submitted to the SFA and he knew full well of the side letters which had been given to many of the recipients.
Side letters that he knew invalidated the tax free status of the payments, letters that were hidden from both the SFA and HMRC.
And that’s just the stuff we know about.

  8. Jackson quick off the mark this morning..Managed to get corruption, bullying and even bent into his article.
I suspect that the ‘secret dossier’ that Rangers have, secret dossier indeed, contains nothing more than what is already in the public domain but will be presented by them with a slightly different twist and punted by their media monkeys as incriminating evidence.
Does anyone really believe that in the small world of Scottish football that this so called evidence would not already be all over the media via the usual suspects.
Why don’t Rangers and their media pals just tell the truth that they will do, and say, anything to prevent 9 IAR which they have thrown the kitchen sink at this season without success knowing that the finances won’t be there next season to support a strong challenge and Celtic will walk it to 10 IAR, when the pandemic is behind us.

Sevco making up their own new unapproved process.

    1. Clubs agree to EGM on Sevco promise.
    2. Sevco then release evidence before EGM date.

    Proper process:

    1. Sevco release evidence.
    2. Clubs & SPFL decide if it merits an EGM to request an investigation.

Sevco also trying to link their agenda with Lockdown issues, League restart issues, etc…. do these people actually think they run SCOTTISH football and can make up their own rules?

These issues will be dealt with by the SPFL Board in isolation of the Sevco upstart troublemaking lies.

Robertson is conflicted and must step down from the SPFL Board. He is an agitator against the SPFL Board he sits on.

DUP-Sevco really really hate Celtic winning. They are also agitating to energise fan season ticket uptake.

    Simply ignore them.

He then goes on to slaughter Ann Grudge and the games she is playing at in backing sevco up but sevco could then be proved wrong she would look daft and get carried away in a straight jacket . So a straight jacket it is then for Mrs Grudge but if sevco and Duggiegate 5 chins is wrong Jackass does not mention any straight jackets for anyone at sevco . What a strange wee man Jackass is .

When the EBT scandal was made public up pops Bryson at the SFA with his ‘imperfect’ but legal player registration status.
Then Nimmo Smith comes along declaring that being able to pay your players more than the opposition didn’t enhance your chances of being successful.

Shat themselves and said they would contact me again in two years time to see if anything has changed. I told them not to bother because they were getting nothing now or in the future from me and that they were an absolute disgrace of an organisation. Still waiting for them to contact me. Just follow what has happened in Holland he says where the top two teams are level on points and only separated by goal difference.
Give Celtic the Champions League spot but don”t call them Champions he says as is the case with Ajax.
He’s ignoring the 13 point gap between Celtic and his former employer.
What about the EPL Arthur? Same solution, give Liverpool the CL spot but don’t call them champions?
Again why has no one in the Scottish media asked the question of Stevie G about Liverpool’s situation. Miles clear but still mathematically can be caught.

  15. Why is BBC Scotland filling the pockets of serial tax dodgers from the Rangers EBT era?
Has any single one of them cleared their HMRC liability?
Just imagine for a moment the furore that would arise if the BBC was employing tax cheats from any other previous occupation.
It would be a front page splash and the BBC would be getting pelters all round.
Why is employing ex football players from the former Rangers not getting the attention it deserves?
Oh hang on, its the Scottish media and they have their own rules.
I see the media, short of digging up former players, are running out of yes men to present the Rangers case, whatever that may be.
We now have Emile Heskey talking up his former captain and how Stevie G’s career as a player is drawing high quality Liverpool loanees to the club plus players from mainland Europe.
Loanees? Shey Ojo has been crucified by their fans and is on the next train back to Liverpool. Allegedly the £7m paid for Kent has been a waste of money and has even been widely questioned by the dumbest fans in the world.
Hagi from Genk? He’s that much of a superstar that he can’t get a regular start with them and Genk will bite the hand off anyone who comes up with £4.5m.
Given who they are dealing with it would be no surprise if Genk have a clause in the loan contract with Rangers stating that the transfer fee has to be paid in full up front and not in tranches as is the norm.
Chances are that Hagj will be returned to his parent club, with not good enough stamped across his forehead.

  16. Northern Ireland Politicians don’t belong in any walk of SCOTTISH life, let alone sport.

We don’t want any of you over here in any context regardless whether you’re blue or green.

Ian Paisley threatened many decades ago to field candidates in Scottish constituencies. The Govt in London and the Scottish Office gave him the Gypsies warning. He took it.

What we’re observing recently is a testing of the water, toe dip into the bath. The water’s chilly and the shoulder is cold.

The Celtic players, 8 years champions, have played a blinder this season. Scots football supporters of all clubs know they’ve won this league. 98.87% certainty and a squad who know how to win. Each of them deserve their medal. The idea that a bigot from Northern Ireland could come over here and tell SCOTTISH football it should be null and void is preposterous.

For me, Leigh Griffiths deserves his winners medal and is an example to all of us. How a determined and resilient guy can overcome his troubles to be such a force up front with Odsonne Edouard. Truly inspiring. A winner’s mentality. True strength of mind. No one could possibly deny Leigh his gong.

Oh yeah! The odious Kris Boyd can go take a fuck to himself. The whole of Scottish football know that as well.

Great to know that two decent men Tom & Michael questioned his participation. No doubt Connor would have been part of the Michael Stewart recent removable from Sportsound/Sportscene over his honest and accurate Traynor comments.

There are decent Protestant people out there who are as sick of all the anti – Irish racism but you will find that they probably attend Celtic Home games or support another team that has nothing to do with The Rangers.(ANYONE / EVERYONE) what a joke.

  19. The plot thickens. First Mr Campbell raises an Early Day Motion in the UK Parliament regarding Scottish football then the BBC invite him onto their Saturday afternoon football program and tickle his tummy with some puppy dog questions. You’d almost think Sevco have some path into the UK Parliament via access to some friendly MP. I wonder where that path to the MP starts? Strange that it isn’t a local MP from an area such as Govan or the surrounding area. Perhaps questions should be asked as to what a Blackpool MP’s interest is in this?

The BBC being the organisation who suspended Michael Stewart for criticism of James Traynor then invites a man such as Mr Campbell onto a live program. Someone at the BBC obviously values the opinion of Mr Campbell over that of Michael Stewart.

His presumed outcome for his actions is what…? Maybe they should have asked him, while they had the chance! Tear everything up and start again maybe? Not one however thought to ask why a DUP mp was interested in the goings on in Scottish football … and felt it worthy of parliamentary time during a period of what is effectively a ‘war footing’.

I think it’s rather clear where the impetus came from and that the new ibrokes DUP PR man has been exercising his unique political links.

If it wasn’t for the fact that Sevco don’t have any money… I’d be thinking that cash had changed hands for that particular question.

It occasionally produces a well received / globally sold period drama.
Otherwise, it’s typically repeats, U.S. cr@p or cheap, reality TV.

Remember as kids we were brainwashed that the BBC was the best – and everyone around the world tuned into the World Service for truthful reporting?

Even today, after numerous scandals in recent years, the BBC still thinks it’s above other news outlets and TV channels in terms of impartiality and quality content.

Now – thanks to the internet and social media – we know the real truth.

As the state broadcaster, the BBC has ALWAYS been substandard, IMO – and not at all value for money…well, for those declining numbers who still pay the TV License tax!
