The importance of keeping to the rules

This season has not gone well for Sevco.

Firstly, Celtic beat them in the League Cup final last December.

Despite having a £40m striker on the field he couldn’t convert numerous chances that were harder to miss.

Then Mr Gerrard’s Gumtree Galacticos were defeated by their low-calorie cousins at Tynecastle in the Scottish Cup last month.

Of course, they are currently trailing a distant second in the SPFL.

Since January Sevco’s league form has fallen off a cliff, dropping points to regulation strugglers Hamilton and Hearts.

However, now the Ibrox klanbase have new hope.

It’s called “null and void”.

I have often observed that the happiest time for the Ibrox klanbase is when there are no football matches to be played.

For example, they always win the Close Season Cup and they’ve made the Training Camp Cup their own over the years.

Now their obedient shills in the Stenography Corps are advocating that the equivalent of the wee lad picking up his ball and walking home.

At the start of every season, the clubs agree by a set of rules.

Here are the ones laid down by the SPFL:

https://spfl.co.uk/admin/filemanager/files/shares/SPFL%20Rules%20and%20Regulations%2022-Jul-19.pdf

On page 23 of these existing rules it states:

“Season means the period of the year commencing on the date of the first League Match in a Season and ending on the date of the last League Match in the same Season or otherwise as determined by the Board and which excludes the Close Season”.

My emphasis added.

Celtic have EIGHT games remaining in the current campaign.

Playing three matches a week could see the title arithmetically beyond Sevco rather quickly.

This is only an insurmountable problem if the chaps at Hampden wish it to be so.

Perhaps they are also adherents of the “null and void” redemption.

Of course, I couldn’t possibly comment.

Consequently, I have submitted a question apropos this matter to the SPFL today.

If I get a reply, I will publish it here.

  1. Alex Rae obviously knows as much about horse racing as he does about football. There is no such thing as a 1 mile hurdle race.

  2. BT and Sky will be expecting a large chunk of money back from the SFA if the league is voided.
Ditto other sponsors. This will further reduce the money being distributed to the clubs in addition to the loss of revenue generated by walk up punters.
Scrap Euro 2020, start next seasons European competitions later and extend the domestic season to complete the fixtures.

  3. Brilliant Bigbaws, I checked rule C14 and you are correct.
Abandoned and postponed matches will be DISREGARDED.
The luj could try to interpret the actual wording otherwise but even by trying this they would go down as eternally bent and it couldn’t work.
We just need to publicly wave the wording in front of them.
You went to a good school.

  4. A rather simplistic view. Celtic may well have won the league already, but until it’s mathematically impossible for them to lose, how can they claim it? ( would Celtic fans be happy if it was Sevco in this position? ) Like wise relegating Hearts. With 9 games left they could easily avoid relegation, so to simply say you are going down, could be a huge financial boot in the nuts. The simplest thing would be declare Celtic the winners with no relegation and increase the league size , bring up the top two from the Championship so that they are not disadvantaged too .
A larger league would be a far better thing anyway and whether that is 14 or 16 is up for bebate.

  5. Why are some people surprised at our Government’s ( North and South) lack of coherent action regarding Coronavirus.
I have lived in the UK for over 70 years and cannot remember one time when the sitting Government handled a crisis properly.
We are prepared for nothing…we anticipate nothing…but we react to everything…when its too late.
The fact that almost 300 scientific types have sent a joint letter to the PM… expressing their dismay and concern over the handling of this…tells you all you need to know.
I’m now being led to believe that over 70’s should stay indoors for 4 months…!!
    You couldnae make it up…
    Wait…someone just did.
    Help ma Boab.

  6. The important rule is rule C14 and the interpretation of it.

Read literally it clearly mandates that there must be 38 completed games in the season for it to be complete. Season ends once all teams have completed 38 games, simple.

However, I see no logical reason to commence one season until the one before it is complete. If that requires a shorter next season then the League could commence a shorter next season with agreed interim rules at the beginning of it. This season however began with a necessity to complete 38 games and this should be done regardless of when it is completed.

Null and void is clearly absurd. I do not agree with the premature awarding of league titles or imposition of relegation but null and void makes even less sense than that.

    • A game can be null and void but not a season.

Celtic have won the league with 8 games abandoned and null and void.

Alternatively, we could play them for the league with Celtic starting 13-0 up or 25-0 up goal difference.

Perhaps jointly 38-0 up at game start?

    • Lol fantastic I was wondering when we would get that Soecial Guest star appearance from Club 18to30 and here it is . They are out there today in force trying to get the Klan behind them in fighting the SFA/SPFL and anyone else including BoJo to stop Celtic being awarded the title. The comments section are demanding thousands protest outside ibrox for their board to get behind them and take what legal action is necessary . Lol just what the board need another court case to be chasing their fans have totally lost the plot here . Who are they challenging next UEFA these clowns hang on every word of club 18to30 . No doubt this will gather some pace this week when the Scottish press give it some arms and legs through the ibrox PR GURU aka The Fat Controller.

  7. I wouldn’t trust the SFA/SPFL to organise a piss up in a brewery.
Thankfully they will have little choice but to follow the English FA in what they do otherwise they run the risks of exposing themselves as the clowns that they are.
Oh I see Ibrox Noise suggesting a 4 way play off at Hampden if Celtic have the balls for it.
This is coming from a bunch of clowns that think that there are still 15 games to play in the current season!

    • Joseph wee Coco has been smoking them funny fags again and sharing a bottle of buckfast with his friends before sharing their thoughts together not a good idea. This is the same wee guy that only last Friday morning after the shame of the 3-1 home defeat to the German side was looking for Gerrard and his coaching staff as well every player at ibrox shipped out immediately. This is what Coco does he goes off on a rant without any thought in it or of what the consequences could be . That is why he is named Coco he is a clown and always good for a laugh with his blog and made up feelgood factor stories about the Klan .

The Klan are screaming from the rooftops for it to be a season null and void and they will stop at nothing to get it . They are in panic mode at the thought of us being declared champions again . They even had a go at BoJo for getting involved with this saying if has a say in this he will not get elected again . Oh dear classic tea-cosy beanie wearers stuff at it’s best . The PARANOIA is rife with them .

The Klan keep trying to outdo each other when it comes to being stupid wee Chick Bung on radio shortbread yesterday was on overdrive with it . Long may it continue as wee Quark from Deep Space 9 aka Alex Rae was also out in force wanting the season null and void . Everyone is laughing at them and their ideas but they are that stupid they don’t notice it .

  8. Phil if you go to page 34 rule C14.
It states ” the premiership shall, disregarding any abandoned or postponed matches, play in 38 league matches in any one season”
So if games are abandoned the league season doesn’t need to consist of 38 games.

    Reply
    • Actually that means quite the opposite, it means that if games are cancelled they do not count towards the 38 a games that still MUST be played by this rule. This looks like it will be a substantial delay but there does not seem to be any logic at all in commencing one season before the previous is completed. However, if the season is not completed then the rules seem to be against a title being awarded on the basis of an incomplete season. Literally speaking this would even include a situation where Celtic were so far ahead they could not be caught….

My wish is that whenever football re-commences, this season is completed under the existing rules Celtic win 9IR. If a shorter season of say 22 games needs to take place with newly drafted interim rules sobeit… The huns would no doubt claim that it was not a real 10IR but I’d be happy with 9.5IR…

    • Oh dear another article on FF is asking should sevco help out smaller clubs affected by not having any income or matchday revenue oh ma sides are sore with laughter . This guys own club running at a loss of £10 million + numerous amount ongoing court cases severely running out of money and he thinks his club could help out when his club have no income themselves . You really have to wonder about the Klan every day someone else appears on the scene that seems to be off the radar than the previous one .

  9. Null and void also means prize money including europe, No prize money no sevco. The Sevco board are rather quiet on the null and void scenario, wonder why ???

    • Should the league be declare null and void then this season’s prize money should be divided equally between all member clubs.

  10. The conservative government MUST be ordered to change the decision to stop testing for COVID19.

This is singularly utterly reckless. The Chinese quote rapid testing as the key to containing and defeating this virus.

Are the UK Govt trying to deliberately lose control of COVID19?

Oh we don’t know how many have it!

Oh we don’t know where it is!

Oh they were old anyway and untested. You can’t say they died of COVID19.

The answer to the question “what do we do about the burgeoning and costly elderly population?” has arrived.

        Coronavirus19.

The elderly in Scotland cost £billions of Nicola’s pesky £12.8bn deficit. It stops independence and it stops entry to Europe.

The elderly also vote for the Union.

It’s a deer management herd cull. They might do it every year like Lairds.

  11. If the season was declared null and void would that not mean that none of the Clubs were entitled to prize money?

They really should be careful what they wish for.

  12. The SPFL board also contains members of the SFA and they would also be involved in that decision. Please don’t leave them out in your enquiries.

The main Board consists of eight members: the Scottish FA Office Bearers (Rod Petrie, President; Ian Maxwell, Chief Executive; and Michael Mulraney, Vice President), plus Neil Doncaster (PGB), Duncan Fraser (PGB), Thomas McKeown (NPGB) and independent non-executive directors, Ana Stewart and Malcolm Kpedekpo.

    • Teams should ask for a rollover of prize & tv to next season whilst refunding, or crediting ST with outstanding games. As Sevco are a well run outfit with £20M in new investment, Moreorless at £28M and Barrasic at £20M, not forgetting the £100M Haji, this should be no problem…….
