A place of mystery

A decade ago, the Ibrox klanbase was given amazing news.

During a period where the bank was in effective control of Rangers, there were suddenly signs of Deliverance.

In a world exclusive, they were told that the new owner of their club was a Billionaire Bear.

A fan just like them who was self-made.

“By the age of 26, Whyte was already Scot land’s youngest self-made millionaire. Now, 13 years on, and in charge of a vast business empire, his wealth is off the radar.”

It was a stunning exclusive.

There was only one problem.

It was pish.

The following May Craig Whyte the “billionaire” bought Rangers for £1.00

That’s ONE POUND.

The fans were in raptures at their good fortune.

Mr Whytewas greeted on Edmiston Drive like Scipio returning from the Punic Wars.

Back then, in a rather satirical mood, I laid out the likely truth.

You will note that my fevered imagination came up with a scenario whereby season ticket futures were involved.

Of course, none of this was appearing at the time ion the Daily Radar.

You know how the story ended.

Now, after all of that one would have thought the Ibrox klanbase would have some capacity for consequential learning.

Last December they were once more regaled with the talk of a mystery investor.

Today Mr Gerrard told Planet Fitba that there would be no new players coming in during this window.

That’s very strange given Mr Rae’s world exclusive last December.

Dear reader, it’s all a bit of a mystery…

  1. Real mystery is the amount of Old Firm, ahem, transfer stories jamming cyberspace. All those shared targets…vying for signatures…beating each other to land some previously unheard of wunderkind recommended by ex player…

Yes, it is all pish, generated to punt players and unsettle squads. It is really quite difficult to get any true picture online, apart from Phil’s site. Guess Stevie G has decided to go off script too!

  2. If PL was aware of an agreement in the 5 way agreement that SEVCO would get all Rangers titles incl. the cheated 13 titles and cups in return CELTIC were to get ten in a row.

If he knew of something like this then he wouldn’t bother his arse to lay out big money for big players. The fix would be in for Celtic winning anyway.

  3. On the subject of the club playing out of ibrox trading insolvent, isn’t it great to see the obedient press running stories of the fantastic values of their current squad , e.g. Morelos circa 40m Barasic now 12m Tavernier 8m etc etc , this is all to get in to the minds of lenders and banks etc that all the bluebells are blue in the great ibrox boardroom of dignity ,assets v liabilities are all that the money men care about , the above fanciful figures come to 60m and that’s without juventus bound 10m kamara or arsenal bound Arribo another min 10m , so let’s be honest the ibrox club getting in bother for trading insolvent is never going to happen , their friends in the press and the SFA will make sure of that .

  4. I see Derby County have become the third English Championship club to be charged under “Profit and Sustainability” regulations since 2016. One of their manoeuvres was to sell the ground for an inflated price to, I believe, the club Chairman and rent it back.

I don’t want to give anyone at sevco ideas now. I’m sure DCK would do that for the club he loves. Give them £100m for the crumbledome and then lease it back to them for buttons.

  5. Typo needing sorted Phil. “In effective” surely not “ineffective”. Or maybe not. As Alec Guinness’s autobiography said, “My memory escapes me.”

  6. We were informed by the Daily Record, during the takeover due Dilligence phase, that Mr Whyte had an immediate investment war-chest of £30m.

The Daily Record then ran with the story that Mr Whyte had not one but two £30m warchests for player investment. I always wondered why they didn’t just say a £60m warchest.

McCoist got pumped out CL and EUROPA League by minnows and the bluff was bust. Mr Whytestopped paying NI and PAYE contributions to HMRC.

SDM & Lloyds Placeman or a rogue lone corporate wolf duping everyone including SFA?

    You decide.

  8. Didn’t King mention something about a share issue in January? I had assumed that was simply another way to raise cash to pay himself back for his loan and shares.
