White smoke and red herrings

I’m told that senior folk at Celtic carried out interviews on Monday.

Six candidates were interviewed.

From what I could glean from my source four were interviewed for the position of manager and two for the post of director of football/ head of recruitment.

I put a list of names to him-the ones that are being widely circulated- and he didn’t confirm or deny.

He did say that the main man was directly involved in the interviews.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a normal week on Planet Fitba if it wasn’t Statement O Clock at Insolvency Towers.

The vigorous communique from the basket of assets was excellently timed to keep the klanbase fully onside.

However, the elbow on Broony was a straight red any day of the week.

It is always a good idea in football management to keep your options open.

To that end, I’m told that sources close to Mr Let’s Go are drumming up interest in their guy.

Perhaps the resident MBE at Ibrox finally realises that the verbal assurances of the Impecunious Chairman are not so bankable.

However, hubris has a powerful allure and he may fancy stopping 9IAR at Parkhead.

I’m convinced that this season was Sevco’s best chance to take advantage of a self-harming Celtic.

As it stands the Ibrox klanabse is ebullient in the way that they can only be with songs about child abuse and dementia.

The summer will be full of this fascist invective.

Moreover, given that there are no football matches to be played then they can indulge in pishful thinking.

However, if the richest club in Scotland gets their managerial recruitment correct in the next few weeks then Mr Let’s Go will find that his second season in senior management could be a tough one.

  1. Now that’s its getting close to ” decision time” at Celtic re.the Manager’s job….its time for everyone to offer comments and opinions.
    Will Lenny get the job…?
Well the ” lack of time ” factor to bring in someone else is on his side …unless the Board has been proactive over the last two months or so and has got ahead of the game…for a change.
I have no idea what might happen…but in my opinion we need to lay down a marker to Sevco and appoint a new manager with a good pedigree and track record…and a name that will worry them.
The sad thing for Lenny is…he does have a good pedigree and a good track record….but his appointment won’t worry them….so its vital that we cause them concern by making the right appointment.
Along with the Gobshite from Liverpool…they are on a Supremacist high at the moment….and that needs to be stopped….NOW !!
I don’t think appointing Lenny will have that effect.
Also the players need to be brought into the equation…and a ” big name” would be the kick up the backside that some of them need…especially after the recent Ipox capitulation.
I’m not sure that Lenny commands the ” fear ” that players need to have in the Manager….so that won’t help him either.
In any other circumstances I would want this dedicated Celtic supporter to get the gig….especially after what he has had to go through in this bigoted wee country….but we are coming up to a big crossroads and a big decision needs to be made.
The Board, when its suits them, is happy to tell everyone that we are a Club with World stature…so prove it and start acting like one.
Send a message out to the upstarts that Glasgow is Green and White and intends to remain that way for a long time to come.
Oh …and for the avoidance of doubt…if I was a billionaire who owned Celtic….money would NOT be an issue.
    Over to you Celtic FC.

  2. Slippy would jump at a job with say a Leeds or west Bromwich Albion, a decent championship team with money to spend. He will be looking at lampard

  3. Phil,
enjoyed the book while on Easter break in Dubai.

A thought occurs as to your article, i.

In the event that DD&PL unveil the new manager (not Lennon), a new squirrel will be fashioned which states that Celtic were so threatened by Mr LetsGo that they had to bring in a big manager.

  4. Phil I get why you protect your site from being copied wholesale but I do wish you’d make an exception so I can copy and have as wallpaper your excellent ‘Deludamol’ photograph, makes me smile, stupidly.
Thanks for your endless work, as you say you shouldn’t be needed but while you are keep holding them to account.

  5. He’s done well to manage a whole season – first one to do so at the phoenix club. Following Sunday’s result – which I still think will prove better for Celtic than them – I notice the ibrox-hating BBC are falling over themselves to publish good news stories about all the prestige signings coming their way to cement their ‘rightful’ place at the top. The same BBC who are quick to tarnish the Celtic name with it’s misleading headlines re: Celtic coaches being convictes for CSA.

Slighty surprised to hear Flanagan has been cited for his elbow to Brown’s nose, partly because, well, he’s a ranger and usual rules do not apply and also because I thought the usual line was he was booked therefore no further action could be taken. Would his dismissal have seen a different outcome? What does this say about the ref’s performance on the day? Why am I even surprised any more?

    • Think about the number of times this season when a player has been retrospectively punished for a foul / assault on a Celtic player. In other words, he has committed a clear red card offence but has been allowed to stay on the park. I stopped counting quite early in the season but by that stage it was already at four. And guess what! Three of those had a ban to be served against SEVCO!!! So the offence is committed against US, but THEY get the advantage.
As you say, it’s not even surprising.
