Big Mike has a good day in court

I think it is fair to say that the folks at Sports Direct are very happy about how their court case went the Sevco High Command.

They seem to think that it was a total wipeout for the other side.

Of course, any litigation can go the other way and I certainly wouldn’t want to second guess it.

However, my Shirebrook source was definitely buoyant about how the case before Lionel Persey QC went.

Now, a health warning.

When I spoke to him this evening my source had only heard about how it had gone yesterday.

He wasn’t in court but he had spoken to someone who WAS there.

In terms of source protection that is as much as I can share with you.

The upshot I got was that the SDI case was as follows:

Essentially, either a legally binding contract has force in law or it doesn’t.

On the basis of what I was told I kind of feel for the Serious Professional in all of this.

After all, he had to execute the Grand Plan that was probably hatched in an empty wine cellar in Johannesburg.

My information is that the Serious Professional stated that although he had the day to day running of the basket of assets he didn’t actually take the major decisions.

That is, in truth an invidious position to be in.

Moreover, I think he is being entirely truthful.

I’m told that the SDI lawyer then nailed the Serious Professional on the matter of whether or not Sevco could actually pay the likely bill from this case.

Apparently, after some…err…guidance from the judge the Serious Professional did answer the very straightforward question.

He admitted that the money wasn’t currently available to settle the likely damages.

That was after Ashley’s brief reminded him that the final cost could be in the millions of pounds.

I’m told that the SDI legal team stated that judiciary was being disrespected by the other side in this case.

Ouch!

There as another day to go today and I haven’t heard how that went.

However, the SDI folk believe that they had already battered Sevco the day before.

Dear reader, you may recall how the Stenography Corps trumped the great King victory over Ashley in the summer of 2017.

It goes without saying that the credulous Ibrox klanbase believed every word in the local media.

That is because it was what they wanted to be true.

Whatever you want to call the coverage of that King presser in 2017 you can’t call it journalism.

As ever, your humble correspondent was a contrarian and remained faithful to the evidence.

Now, for the avoidance of doubt, even if this case is settled by Sevco then that does not mean that SDI has left the building.

Big Mike hasn’t gone away you know…

  1. Timing is everything. May/June is the only time of year Sevco can have any money in the bank. Was asking the question about the ability to pay any damages a signal that they intend to ringfence season ticket money?

I wonder how the klanbase will react to a fire sale instead of a transfer window? Unsurpassed dignity no doubt.

  2. Orange March for Sunday cancelled now..

Because they aren’t allowed to go past a Catholic Church..

What does that say about their ‘raison d’etre’?

  3. Sports Direct may be happy with the way things are going.

But it will be a black day for western civilization, if work on the Great Fence of Auchenhowie is delayed by something as paltry as crippling debts.

Perhaps slave labour could be utilised – worked for the pyramids.

    • I’m sure sevco will have no qualms..

But current research points to the pyramid workers being paid handsomely and treated well as they were needed long term and were often skilled.

5000 years and going strong some of them!

      Sevco on the other hand.

      7 years and crumbling.

      • But just as the Great Pyramid outlived the age of the pharaohs, surely the Great Fence will outlive the age of the Sevconites, abiding staunchly through the millennia as a mighty testament to… well… erm…

        …whatever it was…

  4. Just read slippy saying he’s not gonna comment on the “Tangible” rant that DK went on for season ticket renewal.

Far cry from the “Let’s go” speech last year, wee bit more humility there, I think slippy might just be waking up.

    • After proving his incompetence at maths ( 8 figure price -tag for Morelos , Stevie ? What , a million ? ) Stevie is just confirming that ”tangible ” is – eeeeeeee – outwith his vocabulary !

      • Am I missing something? An 8 figure price-tag is at least £10M. Unrealistic in the extreme but not ‘what, a million?’.

        • Yes , you are missing something . Stevie G was asked in an interview about a( supposed ) 8 figure bid for Morelos , to which he replied ”What , a million ? ” Hence the ref. to his lack of arithmetic skills !!!! Do keep up !

Getting his millions confused by a factor of 10…

  5. I notice that the blue hordes are screaming conspiracy that Broonie’s disciplinary hearing date has been brought forward and therefore he may be available for the Ibrox game.
That is unless he gets a 3 game ban for the SFA trumped up charges.
That would be no surprise. Celebrating victory is a much worse offence than punching an opponent in the face apparently which only warrants a 2 game suspension.
Funny that no one on the blue side rates Broonie yet they want him to miss the game.
Looking forward to Gerrard and his squad lining up the traditional guard of honour to welcome the Champions onto the Ibrox turf.
Surely that would also be confirmation of King’s statement about the dignity that sets Rangers above others.
Of course there is nothing more dignified than howling at the moon when another club cuts your ticket allocation for away games because your own club would never do such a thing…..oh wait!

  6. In normal business, I know I know, someone would have walked the plank for their input into the merchandising farce.
However if the main perpetrator was the man pulling all the strings then normal business practice goes out the window and he, or she’s, word is gospel.
This wouldn’t be the first time that King’s ignoring the advice of those with genuine professional qualifications turns out to be a costly mistake.
His run in with SARS resulted in a huge personal loss, this time around he’s prepared to share that loss with his board and fellow concert party members.
How generous of him, however I suppose that the monies not now required that were set aside to pay off shareholders could be redirected to see off Ashley and SDI.
It would seem only fair that the individual who created the mess in the first place should step up to the plate and do the right thing for his beloved club.
Come on Dave, you know it makes sense, plus it provides you with the opportunity to roll out another statement o clock!
