The toxicity business

Firstly, praise where it is due.

Mr Steven George Gerrard MBE may not be renowned in literary circles for his ability to deploy a polemical flourish, but with one word he proved that he gets it about Ibrox.

“Toxic”.

If a harsh editor had asked me to sum up the Ibrox brand in a single word then I don’t think I could do better than that.

Of course, the assembled ranks of the Stenography Corps have a hillside of evidence apropos that toxicity.

However, they have remained compliantly silent throughout the worst excesses of that Herrenvolk brand.

The failure of the CVA in June 2012 briefly shocked them into accuracy.

Then they received celestial guidance and got creative about a “Holding Company Vehicle” and an “Engine Room Subsidiary”.

Since then they have been an integral part of the great pretence about the survival of Rangers (Est. 1872).

A compliant media was central to how Rangers FC (the real one) self-destructed in 2012.

That slavish attitude to matters Ibrox TUPEd over along with the culture of anti-Irish racism that is a defining feature of the Ibrox klanbase.

It is all rather…well…toxic.

No doubt, regular readers will already have noted a not so subtle change of narrative in the mainstream about Mr Let’s Go.

Suddenly, his lack of experience is being openly discussed.

It is almost as if high-Level instructions have been issued.

Almost…

The basic facts of the matter are that if Celtic win their next two league matches then Sevco’s season is over.

Consequently, it will be a difficult couple of months until the Ibrox klanbase reach their happy time.

That is when no football matches are being played and they can fantasise about “marquee signings”.

Of course, the chaps in the sports desks will provide plenty of speculation porn for the klan over the season ticket renewal period.

In fairness, they’re quite adept at it.

Whatever it is, it isn’t journalism.

You could even say it is toxic.
